Just bought a 2020 bolt r-spec. Used but only 1500 miles on it. First ride home was a dream for me after not riding in almost 7 years. This video helped me narrow down my decision

I just got a bolt R. I was going to get the 883 sportster, but the price difference made up my mind. I got the crash bar, passenger seat, sissy bar, passenger pegs, for a lower price. Plus it’s a Yamaha, well known for their reliability.

Just scored a low mileage 2014 for $3500. I stopped riding sport bikes 10 years ago and was curious about getting back into riding, the Bolt seemed like a low risk option at the price. I hope I'm happy with the power, I'm not expecting much, but my last bike had 90+ ft/lbs of torque and over 100hp.

Helmet, gloves, & long pants - always. Sandals or shorts, never. But a full riding suit on a hot day? Your chances of dying of heat stroke are greater than having an accident, unless you have an accident caused by the deliriousness of heat stroke.

I just got the Bolt R spec a few weeks ago. Traded in my Yamaha R6 that I owned for 6 years. I love the bike! It’s comfortable, it looks amazing, it sounds good with a pipe on it, and it makes enough power. Not to mention the price is good.

MrMoneyHelper I haven’t experienced any of the heat issues. No part of my body has gotten hot due to the engine. It’s a very comfortable ride. This includes city riding when sitting at stop lights and the bike getting warm. I personally haven’t had issues with the air filter sticking out but that could but easily resolved anyway. Just through an open air filter on it. I have the R spec piggy back shocks and I think the suspension is great. The speedometer is a common complaint, and while I agree it’s odd to have a circular display but display the speed in a square box, I really don’t mind it and I appreciate the simplicity. I don’t have issues reading the speed. All in all I have about 1,500 miles on the bike now and I still love it and think it’s a very good cruiser bike

I picked up a similar bike just recently, the yamaha scr950. I have to agree that the mirrors need extensions is nothing else just to be able to see around your elbows. My only other complaints would be that my right knee is always into the air intake because of its positioning and the position of the right peg just feels so much farther out then the left. Other then that it's a great, low maintenance bike with plenty of power but they could've given it a much better speedometer/tach. Cheers.

@@simplybuilt_1708 just bought a bolt. You can’t go wrong with it for a second bike. A little bit touchy for a first timer bike IMO, but I’ve heard you can fix that with the Ivan’s tune which I’ll be getting soon. I think the 883 is more suitable for a beginner without that tune.

The Indian Scout 20 with the bobber seat and mini apes is a far better bike and better bargain. It's a customized bobber style bike that is VERY comfortable and feels so badass. I've been on one, and I've been on a Bolt. I would get the Indian over the Bolt any day. There is a large cost difference though...about $5k. But the Indian is a larger displacement engine as well, and there are SO many customization options from Indian that can be added to their bikes, such as floorboards, bags, backrest, etc. If you have the extra funds, go for the Indian, and it also has forward controls, vs the Bolt has very cramped up mids. God bless you and safe riding. ✝👍🏻

Would you recommend this for a first bike?
@MotoChooch
@MotoChooch 5 жыл бұрын
I think it can be but I also recommend riding the other two I recommend for first bikes. The Honda Rebel 500 or my personal favorite the Kawasaki Vulcan S. Every one of those machines can make a good start but it's up to how they feel to you. I'd say sit and ride them all as a demo to get a feel for what makes the best fit for you.

Try to test ride as many bikes as you can. At the very least sit on as many as you can. There are to many variables to say it's good or bad for you

Chooch man, those clothes are too cool for that machine :) hehehe... get some cool cafe racer clothes next time :) jokes! Good review! Would a newish/used SV650 or XSR700 be a more fun purchase than this bike though?

Having ridden the SV650 I absolutely would take that over a Bolt.

@Derek Frampton PaPa-D yeah people kept calling it a beginner bike and in the spec sheet it's obviously more than 900cc so I was pretty confused. But I wanted something with similar styling thats also beginner and short people friendly. I will go check out the rebel, thanks!

Derek Frampton PaPa-D I’m looking into my first bike as well, turn 16 in a few days. I was eyeballing bikes such as the Rebel500, Yamaha bolt, FZ-07, and a HD883. I weigh around 230-240 atm and currently am 5’10.5. I have the option to buy a bolt off of a family member in good condition with low miles for a decent price similar to a rebel. Would you say just keeping the revs low I could probably handle the bike?

KidsOnALeash OnABoat if you’re careful with the throttle and are very smooth with the clutch and understand the friction zone, you will probably be ok, it is better to start smaller though

Jordan Cailes well I’ve learned a lot the last few days haha. I think I’ll get a used Indian or possibly a Harley, not a fan of the company however. I have decent experience on 4wheelers and dirt bikes (of course different beast) but that partially qualifies me as not 100% a beginner? Like I said at the end of the day I don’t plan on being stupid or speeding.
@jordancailes8383

KidsOnALeash OnABoat honestly a lot of mistakes happen due to the throttle response and lack of clutch control, if you can focus on that you’ll be fine

Everyone has their own opinion, so wear what you want for your own reasons. Just sayin... That muffler is the first thing I'd remove and throw away. It sounds like my lawn mower (actually my lawnmower is a bit louder and sounds better) so I can hear it rumble a bit.

I wanted to get this bike after I got my Motorcycle license but the lady at the dealership told me that they couldn't sell it to me because I was a beginner and that I needed at least 2 years of riding before I can purchase a Yamaha. She also told me to go to Harley Davidson. They'll sell a bike to anyone. That's ridiculous, how else are you suppose to learn how to ride? I took the lady's advice and I purchased a Harley, it's there lost.

I purchased a brand new Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom back in 2009 with 0 riding experience. Had it delivered to my home. I see nothing online that says you can't buy it, unless it was just that one dealers policy.
@hialeahsbest6479

It was that dealership. Fast forward 6 months later, I went to other dealerships such as Honda, Triumph, BMW and even the Yamaha dealership where they shot that Rapper singer in Pompano Beach, FL 2 or 3 months ago. Anyhow, they all told me that it was a ridiculous policy and the manager of the store even said "Maybe they just didn't want to sell it to you". Because no one in their right mind will send you to the competitor. So yeah, It was my bad luck. In Hindsight, they were right. I was real angry at that time and when I got to the Harley dealership, they were real nice to me and of course, I didn't talk that much and I didn't say to any of them that I was a new rider. What was cool about the Harley dealership was that they let me try out the bike out on the road. So yeah, it was that one dealership policy.

I LOVE my 2014 Bolt. By no stretch of the imagination would the Honda Rebel 500 or ANY Rebel come close to the performance of the Bolt. I had one and there is no way that Honda could keep up with my Bolt. Sorry but I think you are delusional. The heat must really be getting to you. LOL.
