Someones already probably mentioned it, but theres a really simple technique to lift even the heaviest bike up using your legs. You basically put your back to the seat, get a good grip of the frame a use your legs to put it back up. This what I learned in the police. I pick up my new Himalayan next week here in Lake Taupo, New Zealand. Very excited to get out there camping and fishing. (November is summer here now) Thanks for your very informative videos.

Been waiting for the Himalayan to reach the U.S. market for over a year. Picking one up this week. I've done my homework on this bike and I don't see how you can go wrong for the price.

For anyone else (not saying you don't know this but for new people) avoid the fall: you need to get on the pegs, turn your foot in the direction of the turn and counterbalance with your rear over the rear-- and a bit more speed. You could use a tree as a support when you don't want to use the side stand or the center stand.

Without even meaning to, I'd say that new bike got a helluva break-in on this trip. Thank God for Forest Angels.

What is it about the Himalayan. I saw a REH being reviewed and was immediately smitten.. I like the pared down no frills industrial look . As to max speed, 65/ 70 works for me. If it had more power it would be even heavier. I pick mine up Jan 4th. I'm stoked! Great introduction, thanks!

I've watched a few dozen riders of this bike (most in India), and they use the centerstand when out in the woods and such in or that the bike won't fall while they unpack. On a side note, I'm saving my coin to pick up this same model (and same color), I find it to be the most versatile bike of the type.

Well it's a dirt bike and you gotta introduce it to the dirt. My wife won't watch my crash videos. I like the Himalayan. It's a neat bike down to basics but with some tech. Did you trade the Honda or did you keep it for longer trips?

Keep going on those trips. Biking is a lifestyle choice. So this bike gets you to outdoor life real good. Get a center stand, makes it more stable when parking in woods. As you take on more technical terrain you will progress. I always felt it is the confidence you gain with experience that matters most on trails. Always make sure you have a somebody waiting for you when doing this solo, so they will check in if you don't report in time. Trouble on trails can happen fast. Good luck from India!

Fix a brake pedal rubber cover of any bike on the side stand base with tie locks and that would prevent side stand from slipping or bending on any uneven surface.Also slip on a kiddie tricycle handle rubber grip on the gear lever.fits like a glove and prevents shoe damage..tried and tested on my bike

It’s easier to pick a bike up behind you so you can lean your weight into it. A little tricky but worth it in the end.

I'm just about ready to buy a Himalayan, too. I wonder why they can't invent mirrors that just snap off without being damaged? This has been an age-old problem. You should be able to drop a trail or dual-sport bike and incur NO damage to it whatsoever. That should be one of the primary design points in a bike of this type.

Lifting the bike like that you'll end up hurting yourself. Watch some videos on the proper technique, it will save your back when you need it.

For a side stand plate I use 4”X4" electrical box cover. $.99 at Home Depot. I carry it in my tank bag.

How did your first season go with the new RE? I bought mine almost exactly a month before you got yours and put just over 7k miles on it last season. Highsided once while parked as I was checking in at a Sault Ste Marie motel and then I lost in deep sand while exploring Fort McCoy. Really enjoying your videos and appreciate the fact that you share how and what you're packing on the various rides and bikes....all helpful to me, I'm sure others as well. Hope our Spring arrives soon after yours does!

3 guys could barely pick it up. I'm 5'7" 170 and I've picked up heavier bikes.

With so many trees around and the ground being soft why did he even have to put the bike on a stand? Could have just leaned the bike against any tree nearby.

Sorry Mr Malone, but I had to laugh,, when the bike went over a second time I thought sooner you then me.. I too own a Him ,and I have been down trails pretty similar.I,v only done about 400 miles just had the 300 done (of course they overfilled the oil) You are so lucky in having so much room to explore, here in the UK we are pretty restricted by laws and just been a small country.. Personally I think the Him is the heavyist bike I would want to pick up,, in fact I doubt I could,,it weighs 400lbs so no light weight...but lets face it any bike dropped in the wrong position is going to be a bugger to get up..you where lucky to have help.. It seems you have zero experience off road, you should practice in easier areas first. And when you’re out riding in the woods you just lean your bike against a tree. If you’re on a dirt bike many don’t have kickstands. And you shouldn’t be alone because you can’t pick your bike up and your out by yourself. You got lucky that side by side came along.

The music is too loud, you cannot be heard all the time.

If you can't pick up your own bike .... don't ride the fucking thing off road.
