Re-Clearing the rear brake light lens on the 1996 Virago xv1100 as part of the Restore...Really easy to do and the video shows the preparation steps as well as the brand of clear coat I've had really good success with. Before and After pics included as well !

Thanks man 👍. Yep, it always makes the restores look complete with shiny lenses again I think.

You always give me great ideas for my 1982 xv920. You mention coating the tank. I used 2K clear, the one with the button on the bottom, with some success on my tank. You seem to have a different and probably better way. I'd love to see a video of the clear coat.

👍. I didn’t do a painting video for this restore, but I did do one for the Cafe I built a couple of years ago that shows what I use for the clear. Attached is the link to the video…if you skip to the 25 minute 20 second time stamp, it shows the clear as well as me clearing that one’s tank. You’ll see that I’m definitely not a professional painter as I lost track of my passes and got a nice big clear sag on the front of the tank, lol. Sags in the clear are easy to fix though (I did a different video on fixing that sag as well). I have gotten better over the years each time I paint one so now they turn out pretty good…just takes some practice and painting on cooler, lower humidity days since I don’t have a paint booth (and trial and error for me, ha,ha !). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aaiElqtetpi6has.htmlfeature=shared

Great video. My painting has been done with a rattle can. If you were using a rattle can, what kind of clear would you suggest?

@@russellburns9480 thanks 👍. I actually gave up on using rattle can clear over large items with colored paint a few years ago as I never could get it to lay down smoothly and, since it has so much propellant in it, it’s hard to get a good thick layer that can be cut and buffed to make it smooth. For small painted parts, I use the Rustoleum as it is an enamel and bonds well with enamel colored paints. The Nason products (they are the Oreilly’s brand) are actually not too expensive and I just use a cheap Harbor Freight HPLV gun and it works really well. I paint things pretty frequently so the cost ends about the same as just buying rattle cans.

@russellburns9480 👍. Yep, it’s always been a hobby for me to play in the shop making and restoring things. Little by little I’ve added tools along the way. If you do get into painting with the automotive type paints, grab up one of those fresh air respirators with the little blowers that pipe air into a mask. Makes painting stress free knowing I’m not breathing in the paint chemicals.

You can also do this with your faded head lights. sand the oxidation off and then sand then down to 1200 grit and then clean and paint. this trick will make them crystal clear for another couple of years.

Yep, the crystal clear enamel works really good for clear headlight lenses as well 👍. I might do one for my Escalade headlights as well so maybe folks will stop spraying WD-40 on them like a lot of the videos say to do that lol s worthless lol ! All the best ! Steve

WD40 pretties it up for a couple of days, than the faded look returns😢

Hey man ! Yep, WD40 doesn’t really do anything other than temporarily fill in the surface roughness. Plus it has silicone in it so getting it back off to clear it is a total pain and makes the clear fish-eye like crazy, lol.
