$1400-$1600 a month is really over $2,000 a month after gas and insurance. We need to reform the car business to get out of the manufacturer/dealer model. These dealers have been completely fine with these prices because for every 1 person that purchased they made the same as if 2 people bought a car. What they forgot is, the number of transactions is the heartbeat of your business. Once you have people choosing not to come in to buy, it is far harder to get them back.

I bought a new truck in 2022. I ordered online with zero bells or whistles, a barebones truck+as cheap as possible. I ended up paying $22,600 for it and my monthlies are $375 for the next 5 years. Easy enough on my paycheck. I cannot imagine a monthly of over $1000!?

I will never buy what I can't afford. The idea of going into someone's debt to buy a car you clearly can't afford is wild to me.

Anyone who takes out a loan on a car, and has a payment of $1600....is, to be nice, very foolish. I think automotive companies realized that there is apparently a large supply of stupid people, who were willing to take out a mortgage payment, on a truck. So, I kind of don't blame them for taking advantage of it. However, 2024 is a different time, and the free money ride is over. Now manufacturers are going to have to adjust--and lower prices, as the pool of stupid people is thinning out.

Who the hell is going to spend $80k on a tool to haul junk around? And at 12% interest? No way. Even a two year old used stripper fleet truck will cost you $40k. It’s stupid.

I bought my current car a year ago and despite bringing in gross over 100k a year, I still bought a used 16k car and paid it off in a year. I can't fathom how people accepting 1,000 a month minimum payments for 8 years, it's just insanity.

I'm not broke. I'm financially independent of needing my job. Part of the reason for that is that I don't buy stupid-expensive vehicles that are depreciating liabilities.

It cost $20k to build a full size truck but they want to sell them for $60k to %100K. Outrageous! The worst part is that the quality and reliability doesn't reflect the high asking price.

As someone who is a used car salesman, I always try and educate people who are buying. I make sure they are well aware that the market is crazy right now, but some people just have to buy a vehicle. I know we’re talking mainly about trucks and new vehicles in general, but the used market isn’t any better. Here’s to hoping we see better prices coming soon, and better interest rates.

75k for a 2024 Ford F150 XLT … I will keep my 2017 that I paid 39k for and is paid for.

Toyota is also very overpriced. I refuse to pay them for their new trucks that arent even as good as they were before.

I bought a 2019 left over ford f-250 xlt rear wheel drive 6.2 gas for $39,400. Used it for 3 years had 70K miles on it and was offered $41,500 for it. Seen prices going up every year since I bought truck almost swapped it for the new 2024 f-250 but I said nope I’m keeping mine. It’s like brand new and it’s race red and people walk up to me every single day and praise this truck. Paid for and doing the same a $80,000 will do. You never pay sticker price on a pickup! Never. If they say nothing off go to another dealer. I’ve bought 6 brand new vehicles and never paid sticker price on any of them. Don’t get hustled into paying sticker.

Back in the day, they used to put all the "extras" in their top-of-the-line, limited luxury models (for the people that could afford them), so the rest of us could purchase a more cost-effective "standard" model that was actually "standard." No electric windows, no power locks, no automatic sliding doors and power liftgates (God forbid we exert ourselves opening a f*cking door or liftgate), no backup monitors, no heated seats, no 15 speaker sound systems...just a car with a heater, air and a radio to get you from point "A" to point "B" in reasonable comfort at a reasonable cost. Now they cram unwanted add-ons to various degrees in all models...even trucks!! Remember when trucks were just trucks? Did we, as consumers, ask for all these guaranteed to fail, wallet-emptying "features?" Hell no, we didn't!! I say let the manufacturers choke on their unsold inventories of over-loaded monstrosities, so they can have the much needed 'come to Jesus" realization that they royally screwed up with their greed-driven antics in the name of (COUGH!!) innovation. I've held to a belief that my vehicles total cost should be no more than 1/4 of my annual income. My wife's van and my truck together I bought for under $10k. We did our research and not having a car payment is amazing. These prices just don't make the "new car smell" worth it

my buddy drives a 2003 chevy suburban as a work truck, he paid $800 for it and put another $150 for a fuel pump. not a dollar more and it’s been taking 8 of us to the jobsite for the last year. the thing is an absolute freak of nature. they just don’t make things like they used to.

When grocery prices have increased 25% since 2019, people will chose to buy food than to buy a new vehicle and pay the higher interest rate on an auto loan.

And the liars say they are giving you 10 grand off which is a slap in the face. And that 10 grand off would be more like 5 grand after the dealer pulls the slight of hand acam.

My local dealer spent the last 3 years with 5-15k markup stickers on the few super duty trucks they could put on the lot. I’m still not buying one but it was nice to see those stickers showing a $5k discount for a change!

Not sure why a lot of people buy pickup trucks when they could buy a car. If you aren't towing a lot of the time or using the cargo bed a lot of the time then you don't need to own a truck, just rent one when you need one.

The crazy part is I'm looking to buy a new truck but I just can't justify these asking prices. Same thing with cars, I'm not buying a car with a $700+ car payment that's just plain irresponsible. They jack up asking prices along with high interest rates, even with perfect credit, and claim Americans aren't buying houses and cars when most of us are making more money than we ever have in our lives! Financial literacy is going to kill these dealerships that could care less if you can actually afford it.

Just purchased a 2017 Toyota Tundra SR5 4x4 5.7L V8 with 50k miles. Out the door $28,600 . Brought my own Bank of America financing. 5.6% financing and $502 monthly payment. I chose to get a slightly older Tundra vs a newer American truck solely for the reliability. All American pickups are trash after 80k miles.

Can't afford $950 payments for 72 months. Even with a good down payment is still too high. $650 - $750 max.

The dealers and manufacturers got super greedy and used to very high margins during COVID due to supply shortages. People were also dumb enough to buy vehicles at these incredibly inflated prices. Time for a reality check

Paid $36k for my Crewmax SR5 Tundra. The dealers are sending me text and email asking for the truck back. Said they’ll put me in a new truck with the same payment. No thanks. I’ve knocked 18k off this truck in about 2 years.

Over 30% of my pay is taken in taxes, my groceries have doubled in price, I pay 4$ a gallon for gas, my property taxes are over 4k for an acre of land and a rancher, any social security I might get is now taxed...where in the hell do these companies think people are getting 50k+ for a vehicle plus interest payments and full coverage insurance?? FJB!!

What also blows my mind are people who just buy a truck to own a truck. I needed a truck because im renovating my house and I inquired to buy an XLT F150 was 63,000$… in 2019 an XLT was 35k. Then, they lowballed my trade in of my 2023 Audi s3 by 20,000$! They offered me 25,000 for it and Kbb showed it being 45,000$. Then let’s not forget about gas prices. Trucks average 14-22 mpg depending on how heavy user foot is… I drive 80 miles a day for work round trip.. my Audi manages 36mpg… some people also forget about gas prices when buying a truck.
