I dig On Parole, great punkish sound. Especially City Kids, top 5 Motörhead song for me.

My preference is for On Parole. On Parole has a very bluesy, rock and roll feel, especially with the cover of Leaving Here, and the Larry Wallis penned title track, Vibrator and Fools. I'm also partial to Wallis' work with Pink Fairies, and Lemmy with early Hawkwind, and we get some of that through City Kids and The Watcher, respectively. The production really works to these ears; in particular, the crisp guitar and snare sounds. And finally, On Parole contains my favourite version of my favourite Motorhead song, Iron Horse/Born To Lose.

Interestingly Motorhead, Lost Johnny , and the Watcher all were originally Hawkwind songs. The Watcher was actually an acoustic guitar song on the Do Re Me Fa album by Hawkwind. I remember when I first heard the Watcher, and Lost Johnny. I thought that those were some pretty far out Trippy lyrics for Motorhead, later I learned why.

I love this album. On Parole makes a great companion piece to this album. The 1978 Live album, released under various names, is still my favourite live Motorhead album. I will always say motorhead is a Metal band. And Lemmy does refer to them as metal in his book, and even defends Metal when Philthy left because he didn't want to play metal anymore. There is a video on youtube where Lemmy is talking about heavy music and he says "Heavy Metal is Rock and Roll, it's just another name for it." He even says in his book "Heavy Metal is the true spirit of rock and roll.". I think what it really came down to was Lemmy really hated all the labels put on music. He even says "There's only two types of music, music you like and music you don't." He even said the Sex pistols weren't Punk, just a good Rock band. I think at the end of the day it's all just Rock and Roll to Lemmy.

Motorhead's first album is my favorite of theirs because it's the most varied. I don't really dig bands when they find a formula and stick too strictly to it.
