I think electrically speaking, the two ways you connected are actually the same ie both in parallel. In effect four terminals become two and it doesn't matter which negative to load you use as it's electrically the same terminal, same goes for the positive.

Whilst many will do exactly what you've done in the video, it's actually very important that when creating a "battery bank" (2 or more batteries) that they're identical. Firstly, adding say an 85AH battery to a 110AH existing battery won't give you 195AH. They will quickly balance to 2 x 85AH and in the process will cause damage the new 85AH battery. Even adding a new battery of the same AH rating is a no-no because the performances won't match simply because one is used and one is new. You should dispense with the existing battery, even if it's a good, which you could probably sell, and buy 2 (or more) identical batteries (type, AH, manufacture and even manufacturing date). Also, the battery to battery cables must all be same length and type as must the pos and neg cables from the motorhome to the battery bank. If you don't, the voltage drop caused by the cables will throw the input and output out of balance. For the doubters, as we learned in school, electricity and water perform in the same way. If you link a 10 gallon tank to a 5 gallon tank the full 10 gallon tank will flood the 5 gallon tank then thereafter the 10 gallon tank will never fill above 5 gallons, i.e. they'll balance to the lowest capacity. Linked batteries perform in the same way.

As long as the cables connecting the batteries can handle the current, it makes absolutely no difference electronically changing the cables like that. As long as they are connected in parallel.

I considered adding a second 110Ah sealed lead acid battery to my setup to double the capacity but then learned about lithium leisure batteries. I now have a single 110Ah lithium which is about equivalent to 2x lead acid because you can drain lithium all the way down to zero without causing any damage. Plus Lithium holds a much more steady voltage as it discharges. Not cheap though.

good video, I have my leisure battery/sockets/data screen condensed into one unit, if connecting a second battery will the screen that read the Volts/power/current/energy on the 1st battery also read the new combined figures/draw on both batteries?

I have a relay to an auxiliary battery which I use for an inverter and stuff but then an Anderson plug coming from the live (the neutral comes from the vans body) connecting a second battery to charge up for my 12v boat motor. So this keeps the voltage but increases the Amp's. But if my split charger is rated 140a and my leisure battery is already 120a. Does this mean I need a 240a split charger, because I can't seem to find a 240a split charger. So what are my options now?

I placed two batteries unconnected in my van yesterday and today they are damp / wet on the sides they are in a box and and soon as I took them out today they dried of , are they buggered or do they condensate ? My leisure batteries (x2 110ah) are as you explain in first part of video, connected via a EBL 104 in a hymer where the max is 10 amps, by doing as you suggest would this increase the overall amps

I have a 2002 fiat ducato hobby 600 motorhome which I live in full time after a marriage breakup. Can I swop my current tired leisure batteries for 2 x 140amp leisure batteries. I had to stop using my inverter as it was draining my current batteries and due to the time of year that I am not getting them recharged via my 2 solar panels due to lack of sunlight.

Um I was always told. When fitting an extra batteries both batteries had to be the same type, make etc. And installed at the same time. Not mixing old and new. Both had to be new. If for example one battery is suffering from self discharge or weak cell it would discharge both batteries. Is this correct or have I been mislead. Cheers from old George
