Recorded shortly before his retirement from public life and unseen until now, this footage of Sir Stirling Moss is thought to be his last in-depth interview.
He looks back on his life and career with Mia Forbes Pirie, the daughter of his former secretary and a family friend, not associated with motor racing.
The result is a unique insight into Moss's racing brilliance; his resilience amid tragedy and injury; and most of all, the character of the man dubbed Mr Motor Racing.

The fact that this interview was conducted by somebody who isn't a motorsport fanatic gives us the opportunity to glimpse the man behind the racing legend. Insight like this is rare. It will annoy a lot of people, but I thought it was fantastic. Thank you Motorsport, Sir Moss, and Mia. None of you had to do this.

Sir Stirling Moss was such an amazingly brilliant driver and an impeccably classy gentlemen. The world shall not see his like again. The astounding amount of sportsmanship he demonstrated throughout his career will likely never be duplicated. The phrase repeated by British traffic officers of, "Who do you think you are, Stirling Moss?" is indicative of his importance in the cultural mainstream of the UK. Even an American like me understands how much he means to motorsport history. My only regret is that I never got to witness him racing in his prime. I am much the poorer for having not seen him racing live. Also, Sir Stirling, in my opinion, was a significantly greater racer than the people racing these days since he was fast in every class of car he ever drove, while today's racers are quite strictly specialists in their own particular class of vehicle. Godspeed, Sir Stirling, Godspeed.

Graham Bevan My wife and I had the great pleasure of being invited into Stirling's fabulous Mayfair home in November, 2016. His secretary Amanda greeted us and I immediately felt at home , because on the hall wall were two of the same prints of Stirling and the late great Juan Manual Fangio that I already have. Then upstairs to the living room to be finally introduced to 'My Boyhood Hero.' I wasn't sure if Lady Susie would usher Margaret away while I had a private audience with Stirling. In the end we sat together, which was probably a good idea because in between me trying to remember the questions I was planning to ask and saying nothing, Margaret asked far more interesting ones. Refreshments were served and I unpacked my CMC Mercedes Benz 300SLR (number 722 of course!)1:18 scale model which Stirling had very kindly agreed to put his signature on the bonnet. Several photos were taken, including me holding the rather bent steering wheel from his Lotus 18/21 at that fateful day at Goodwood in 1962, while Stirling displayed his also bent wheel from his Lotus accident at Spa in 1960. Susie was about to organize a holiday for them and friends in Singapore for Christmas. At 87 Stirling's memory was pretty good, reminding us that many of his racing friends had passed away. An hour went by and I thought it was probably time to make a move. I left feeling he was an old friend, but I had had only the pleasure of his company for one brief hour. If I had my time again with our Great Sporting Knight I would have asked the questions I had forgotten to ask. For me, it was certainly a day to remember! Ciao Stirling

What a legend of a bloke. Humble and modest but rightly proud of his achievements and only too ready to give credit to others. This may not have been a Motorsport interview but it was a very human one indeed and we should give thanks that it is record. Thanks for sharing those moments.

I’m a pretty hardcore car guy and I really like this is just a normal interview. Fantastic stuff. I bought all the archive ones a few years back. Motorsport Magazine is truly above all other publications.

What a outstanding person.. the cars back then were so dangerous even compared to the 80s imagine not being belted in.. and the idea was to jump out at even 60mph.. it would be comparable to riding a really really fast bull and being thrown but at 60 or even 100mph.... this a real driver and a great human being!! Rest in piece sir.. what a amazing life

I remember watching a television documentary showing him at Monoco ( Which he won, by the way ), and hosted / narrated by Walter Cronkite. I also read about his other exploits in racing magazines. A great driver and fine human being. RIP

I have driven 1000 miles in one day but I had speed cruise and I was not racing and I was still tired afterwards, so how he raced this in one day driving at 10 tenths is amazing… no aircon, now power assisted steering , no driver comfort at all..

A gentleman to the last! Constantly referring to the ‘toilet roll’ in front of the lady but when speaking to a male he would call it the ‘bog roll’.

This is just like going to the therapist. So it becomes a different interview. If you want any of the other interviews they seem plentiful.
