While I'm glad this car never replaced the Mustang, I still loved the Probe, especially this second generation model. It was a good car, especially for its time. And I think the styling on the Probe GT still looks smart even today. I think the Probe is an underrated car. I miss it.

I think the main problem with todays' cars is that their designs are not as unique and elegant as 90's coupes... That's why they still look fresh :) Yes, there is no new Probe or MX6 now, it is said to be one of the reasons for that but hey can you look at the new Honda NSX and then the original one, we can easily realise how bad todays' cars are being designed comparing 90s...
@thas12274 жыл бұрын
@@musicaldracula2017 I don't like new cars, it's the overly dramatic styling. They just refuse to design them with simple lines and smooth transitions.

The Probe reminds me of a mini C5 Z06 or the 2005 Ford GT ( $150,000) one.

Definitely a market for affordable sporty/pony cars. Like the neon srt 4, caliber srt 4, cobalt ss, Hyundai tiburon Tuscani, Mitsubishi eclipse, mitMitsubishi Lancers, Subaru wrx. But companies need to keep the cars affordable, basic and great performance for a small price. And a turbo or supercharged v4 or v6 with easy to find upgrades. So anyone can afford one and upgrade it when they have money. It bridges a gap for people who cant afford a v8 pony or muscle car and cant afford a luxury high end tuner car like the neon srt 4 etc. The 90s mazda rx7, nissan 300zx are good examples. That's why the cobalt ss was so popular compared to the better neon srt 4. Because of price. The cobalt ss was cheap, not fancy, quick, easy to mod, cheap to fix and it was easily driven 12 months a year any weather because of the fwd. Though awd would of been best of both worlds and made it more fun but would of cost more

That white GT looks so slick. In a sea of dull grey crossovers, I'd be over the moon to drive one today. Regulations and market demands make a FWD NA V6 powered coupe with exceptional visibility and low weight an impossibility these days. Maybe the 86 twins are the closest we have today. They're a little faster to 60, brake and handle better and have the benefit of more modern engineering, but they are compromised in their own ways -a portly somewhat bloated crash-friendly design being one of them. Ah well, it was a nice segment of vehicles, lost to time.

What's going on with the audio, I've noticed many of the retro reviews of late are either in the left or right channel. This one is predominantly left channel until about 4:30, then the right channel cut in. I appreciate faults in the source, especially if it was a stereo recording but the stereo has desegregated, however, this should be easy to compensate for by summing the channels into a mono mix. Really enjoying the retro reviews, please keep them coming.

I had both a first gen and second gen probe. First ones were gutless and poorly assembled, but I loved my '95 GT! That Mazda powertrain was the start of my conversion to imports...went to an Acura TSX after that.

my girlfriend had a 93' GT and I remember the suspension to be very stiff and roll free, great handling car for a front driver.

I remember when I was driving my Ford Probe, how women would watch me go by, it was just wow!

My first car loved it

If this was a Mustang people would hate it. Since it’s not, we love it. Second gen especially.

This car has actually aged really well stylistically. I'm glad it never replaced the mustang, but was still a good car in it's own right.

I had a 91 v6 as my first car, overdrive didn't work but such a cool car. Wish I was a better drive at 16, wrecked it pretty quickly.

I used to work with a guy that was so proud of his Probe. He was fired the day he posted photos in his cubicle.

I like these even the 4 cylinder model is not bad as long as it has the 15" tire/wheel package. I used to own a 626 that uses the same engine/transmission as the probe GT and I was very happy with it. Smooth, Free Revving V6 although NOT a power monster of an engine. It was pretty good back in the early 90's though.

Love these and their looks. Sadly the few I see locally (and one for sale) are just sitting there...
