KZfaq, I'm still standing in the shadows of Motown...Still hear their hits, buy their music...Junior Walker should've lived to be interviewed. He deceased in late November 1995. 9 month earlier, Melvin Franklin also deceased. RIP to those also who would've lived to see the airing of Motown 40 in 1998. Eddie Kendricks, Mary Wells, David Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, Florence Ballard, the Four Tops' Larry Payton, Paul Williams, Al Eldridge too. These musicians left us behind with Yesterday's Dreams, a small pile of ashes with one burning hope that hangs on.

Diet and exercise is so important. Learning how to eat to live is essential,cutting back on flesh consumption and eating one meal a day and fasting keeps us healthier. Berry Gordy must be doing something right,he's older than most of those who've transitioned.

As a young white whose teenage years had Motown as my sound track I can say without hesitation that this music was some of the finest ever penned and performed. Thank you to all the Motown writers and artists who gave us so much joy that we could dance without reservation. Aretha was smart to not go to Motown financially. But damn I would have loved to hear her with the Motown sound from their legendary writers to the legendary producers and of course her legendary voice chimed in with the legendary musicians. Smh what could have been.

eric Mays Aretha wouldn’t have succeeded at Motown. Her voice and style wouldn’t have worked with Motown’s vision. Plus I feel she would have gotten lost in the mix of artists.
@anthonyyusef58974 жыл бұрын
@@bradleyscarton3931 You took the words out of my mouth. Gordy had a vision on what he wanted his company to be. He wanted a crossover appeal, he wanted his artists to be invited to play places like the Copa in NY which was unheard of for R&B acts. Aretha in all of greatness never played the Copa. This is why he loved the Supremes and Diana Ross. He wanted that kind of class and sophistication which he thought he needed to get where he wanted to go.

Suzanne de passe, thank you so much for making your video public again. I recorded the original versions on my VHS when it was first aired on TV, and I used it in my High School classroom to introduce my students to the Motown sound and the marketing of the music industry. (I was a marketing Teacher) , and about two years after I recorded it one of my students stole it out of my room because she loved it so much. I've looked forever for the video and could never find it. My favorite part of the entire series is when Norman Whitfield explains the competition among the writers and his description of delivering my favorite song of all time (My Girl) to Barry Gordy, that's legendary. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful gift of music with the world! Dave Shillinglaw

It's a bit interesting that some folk complain about Diana Ross leaving the Supremes and not a word about Smokey Robinson leaving the Miracles. Has anyone complained about Beyonce leaving Destiny's Child? All three have had amazing careers with their groups and as solo artists. Accept that as fact. Superstars each.
@officialjermaphobic24015 жыл бұрын
Chuck Cissel there’s a huge difference. Diana Mary and flo all started as equals then Diana was pushed out front and given all the spotlight. The other groups were formed with one lead singer and weren’t formed by 3 friends

And with Beyoncé the other girls got to sing lead. And they all decided to disband at the same time. Also Beyoncé came back to the group and even did another album. Yeah, it was a real team effort. From Berry Gordy at the top, to Cholly Atkins and Maxine Powell at Artists Development, to the composers who cranked out one song after another for the different acts, to the handful of producers in the studio, to the Funk Brothers performing the classic Motown sound, to the performing artists bringing the lyrics, vocal harmonies, and choreography to life onstage, to the radio stations for playing the hits, to the record stores for selling the music, to the listeners for buying the records. Everyone played their part to perfection.

Berry Gordy suppressed Florence Ballard's bubbly personality.He made "his star" be out in front so you were forced to notice her but she could not sing very well.Very nasal.Florence and Mary had a way better voice then Diana.RIP Florence.

With all do respect, the Pointer Sisters,could have sung the Supremes songs better, were more versatile and more over all charisma as well Had they had Motown behind them, well there success would have been of the charts.Although, they came along just a few years later. Ross was a plastic figure........just go listen to the Sisters
