Death loop tip: If you die to a number of enemies, don't immediately run back. Sleep instead, even if you have to wait. The mob will despawn in the morning. Then eat and get your rested buff before you go back for your stuff. Learned that lesson the hard way.

Little tip, you can block exactly when you hear the wolf growling at you and that's the timing for a perfect parry. Works 100% of the time.

Silver mining tip: Silver veins are always Y shaped. Dig down to uncover that Y and you won't miss any of the silver.

The "You are being hunted" event is rough for sure! I have found that the Bonemass ability is really helpful when you get surrounded like that! And while you cant block as well, having an atgeir is great as well for AoE - the special attack does not only AoE damage, but also knocks back all mobs around you. Edit: Posted this before finishing the video, and I have to say that I salute you for including your entire death loop with all the failed attempts! We have all been there before as well... *cue my PTSD flashback to "DeathSquito Island"....

Making a cave in the mountain biome is my favorite. If you're under the surface of a rock, the drakes won't attack :)

When you went into the mountains in leather, I thought you were pretty courageous...until the hunt. Then things went as I had initially expected. TYVM for showing that. :)

I love the being hunted event. Such an excellent way to get lots of wolf meat, fur, teeth and trophy chance. If I get the message while in my temp portal/base in the mountains I actually leave and go out in the open. I want them coming at me. Prep: Good rested bonus. Always keep an eye on your rested bonus in the mountains! If low... build or find a shelter and fire and get it at least to minimum...I'm full iron or silver armor as the case may be. Equip my Iron sledge (or stag breaker if no trader yet), I actually drink a med health and stamina potion just before the fight as I'm about to get too busy for my clumsy fingers later... however if you have skill you can drink them during the fight when needed. Top off all your food of course... no blinking food slots! Most important...Bonemass ability. Pop this before the fight. It is most important ability in the mountain biome when first exploring there imo. Once they start coming in, just pound away at them. So many wolves die you almost feel sorry for them... I like to make my swings count also and wait for them to close in so they get the full slam effect. Really just about any good weapon that has area of effect and attacks multiple mobs at once will probably work here. So try using your favorite. If drakes attack during this time...ignore them. just move around to dodge their attacks somewhat...walk do not run, to save stamina, unless you are really being targeted by a lot of drakes at the same time then try to look for cover like large stones or other formations so you can't be targeted by too many drakes at once. Once the being hunted event finishes, you can take out the drakes easy enough with fire arrows. Tip on drakes: Always target the weaker drakes until death if you can before targeting another. A 1 hp drake attacks just as hard as a full hp drake so cull them intelligently! The 'almighty hoe': one of the most powerful tools in the game. In the mountain biome, a powerful feature is its ability to help you scale steep cliff sides with ease. I prefer it to the pick as it's quicker imo. Just use it before you run out of stamina to rest when climbing. Others here have pointed out also that you can use it to build up an invulnerable earthen mesa to stand on and protect yourself. even build tall columns to hide behind and dodge drake attacks. Not a bad idea to make yourself an invulnerable little base/outpost in mountains using the hoe and stone you get from your first silver mine.

it was me...i cant cross my fingers...there busy working while i watch these...im soooorrry........lol great content bro loving every second of it........little tip i like to use i got from a friend ....find any pre existing structure like the cabins or better yet... the little towers and keeps with the skeli boys/drauger....and relocate your portal house to it and or have a second portal/bed there to respawn at and have back up gear there.....

This gave me so much anxiety, but weirdly enough it helped. Seeing a worst case scenario seems to have downgraded my terror at exploring the mountain down to healthy respect and caution. Seeing how to fight the enemies really helps too.

I know I am late to this party but, in the past when I’ve gotten overwhelmed by wolves and had to run back bareassed to try to snatch and run my gravestone I have found it helps to drag a troll or a hord of grey dwarves with me. They make a great distraction.

The wolf event was put in before Hearth and Home. And it doesn't just occur in the mountains. I experienced it for the first time while roaming around the plains. You asked for some tips on dealing with the event. TLDR: 1) If you're protected in an enclosed base, don't set about destroying your walls and door, like you did, allowing the wolves to get in. 2) If you're out in the open, pop Bonemass, which makes you practically invulnerable. 3) If you can, try to find a place to jump onto where the wolves can't get to. Or find a place where your back is protected. End of TLDR. Wall of text warning. 5) To Gear or Not to Gear When entering any biome for the first time, your character will be weak, even with the best gear from the previous biome. You didn't have the best gear (in this case, iron), you had troll armor. Troll armor is great for exploration because there's no movement penalty like you have with other gear. I'm a big fan of troll armor, but you could have done better. If you freeze the video at 13:15, it's clear that you could have upgraded all your troll armor after putting up the toolshelf. You didn't. You could have also worn a fully upgraded iron helmet with your troll gear. That would have boosted your armor score even further, with no movement penalty. Then you talk about using a bronze shield because you couldn't be arsed to craft and upgrade a superior iron shield. Hubris. 6) To Buff or Not to Buff Don't go into the mountain biome (and plains biome) without the Bonemass buff. Inexplicably, you had the Eikthyr buff. 7) Don't Destroy your Base You were in the best situation for this event to occur --- protected by a walled base. All you had to do was stay inside and repair the walls and door until the event was over. Instead, you elected to use Stagbreaker. If you freeze the video at 14:19, you can clearly see that every time you used this weapon, your walls, door and portal took damage. This allowed the wolves to eventually come through the damaged door and kill you. 8) Don't Litter Since you can't take ores through a portal, you threw your silver ores on the ground in front of the portal. When you came back through the portal after dying, you unwittingly picked up those ores. This turned the portal off, allowing the wolves to kill you again. That's what you get for littering.

Remember, they did something to block and how well you can use a shield is partly determined by how many HP you have. When you tried to block while having the HP that honey, raspberry and red mushroom provided, you just didn't have the 'oomph' to hold the block successfully and got staggered. Also, I've been reading some of the comments and I must've been lucky with the Hunt that came for me. I happened to be on a boulder when it started and just picked them off with my bow for the most part. For some reason, they could only come down to the area where I was 2 or 3 at a time and only had to switch to melee to kill maybe 4 wolves throughout the entire hunt, and those were one at a time.

I enjoyed this specifically because it didn't go as planned.

Love it! I feel like you just re-created one of my days. I had a day where I died just off the coast of a plains/swamp border (deathsquitos and leeches and archer skellies, oh my!), and I had no portal nearby. Needless to say, after a few attempts, I quit. A friend asked if I wanted help, I said I was too frustrated and needed to step away. Later on, my husband did come on to help and it took both of us several attempts (but we were smart and scoped out a spot for a portal first). All in all, I think we ended up with so much gear between us and about 4 boats.

The meditating wolf joke took me too long to figure out. I'm like "a warewolf"? ... AWARE wolf. Ahhhh

So yeah, that death loop is a good reason why building a portal on the outskirts of a biome is a good idea. Also it's the reason why you should at least try to make two sets of equipment rather than just one good set.

The wolf hunt event can happen in plains too. Don't remember about the other biomes, but believe can't happen. One by one, the wolves spawn up to five (or six). Best way to deal with the event is to kill the wolves fast.

I've gotten a couple "being hunted" events. With the iron armor I'd maxed from the swamp, and importantly the bonemass power. Even with all that, you want to fight using terrain to your advantage. If you can find a large rock you can sometimes stand out of reach and just shoot them with arrows. Although I will say this was before Hearth and Home, so haven't tested this lately. I still think it gives the best chance.

I just came from a deathloop with a 2star draugr that camped and destroyed my portal. The satisfaction when I finally trapped and killed him and got my portal rebuilt... I totally recognised that from your Mountain deathloop.

I'm sorry to laugh at the misery of others, but I haven't laughed that hard in a while! It's a sympathy laugh because I've been there so many times. "Rage quit! Delete Valheim!". I was in tears. Thank you for an excellent series.

Tip... get up high within the event marker on the map...as the event timer only drops while ur within the marker and peck them off with the bow while they can't reach you

LOL Rage quit forever, love it! The feels are real man! I was attacking an ice golem, ran out of stamina, got killed by wolves 4 times trying to get my stuff back. I contracted my cousin to help me since he was in the plains biome. His fee was wolf skewers. 10 of them. Easy enough! Paid in full.

Tip for the wolf event: They will aggro any other mob in the area (unless other wolves offcourse). Standing between or around other mobs, and they will do alot of fighting for you. Getting this event in the plains is a joke. Growths, fulings, squitos and lox just take care of all of them - just stand back and enjoy the show. In blackforest and swamps, the creatures may not be able to kill the wolves, but they will distract them, so you dont get swarmed by all at once. If you have to fight them, keep your back to a wall, so you cant get surrounded, keep your shield up, and use a mace to keep knocking them back. However, this event is special, as it can occur outside of your base on the go, meaning, you dont necessarily need to finish the event. Just leave the red circle, if you dont want to fight them. The circle and event will stay active in that area, until you have spent the duration of the event inside the circle for it to complete. But if you are just on the go, and dont really need the area - you can simply leave - and as a bonus, no other event can start as long as the previous one is active

don't go outside, repair your walls, stag-breaker, repeat. :D

Some of the Mountain spots can be batshit crazy.

You can add small wooden walls snapped to the palisades for extra wall Hitpoints 👍🏻

I really felt those deaths Kysen! My 1st silver node I was attacked by 3 drakes and a stone golem all while I was trying to mine!

This has happened to me with the death loop so many times. I now have 2 places my portals have died on the other side. And across the sea. One even blew up my large boat. Was a sad day.

If you think the wolf event is hard try the fuling event. I approach those the same way. Get out your bow, don't attack them, run out and kite them. When the event is over you only need to clean up a couple as the rest run away.

I have looked in 5 different mountain biomes for Onion seeds, they don't seem to exist. Maybe because I'm playing the same save I had before Hearth and Home released? Might just have to spawn them in I guess.

What You can do is use your hoe and build up high dirt wall all around the base and then use a pickaxe to make a deep hole in front of your door so the wolves won't be able to get at the door because of the hole at the front of the door. 1. Build your Base Portal. 2. Use Hoe to build up the Land Up as a Dirt/Earth Wall All Around the Base. 2b. Or, Dig a Trent all-around your Base as well instead of an Earth wall. 3. Dig a Deep Hole in front of The Door so Wolves won't get to the Door. And there you Go a Solid Impenetrable Portal Base. Hope that Helps!!

I use a bit more wood and make a bit of an ugly tower in case of Wolf Event. Better yet is to find a stone tower but wood will do the job. Plus, fire arrows are a great help with most mobs in the Mountains. I'm pretty sure you can get Wolf events in any bio until you kill Moder. I was hit 4 times with the event until after my Moder fight. I haven't had an event after yet. Edit: I just had a Wolf event in the Plains. Came right in the middle of clearing a Goblin camp. I ending up going up a ladder onto one of the towers. Wolves cleared the rest of the camp while I shot the wolves with fire arrows. ;)

Question for you, Kysen - why don't you look for the large stone tower structures and build portals inside them instead, and then board them up/make doors? I find those to be more secure than the little stockade situation and they also have space to make a mini base almost.

"Home is where the trench is." This video provides an example of why gate rooms should be more heavily fortified than virtually any other kind of structure you build. I especially like hardening doorways, because then they can be used as chokepoints, which with a mace and a tower shield, will let me safely tank almost as many individual mobs as I need to. Building raid proof architecture is very possible in this game, and I know that because I've done it. After my first few troll and Greydwarf attacks, I realised that I needed a panic room capable of withstanding Greydwarf raids until the end of the event. Troll proof designs are possible as well, but generally require out of the box thinking; either underground or high altitude bases. Either way, the bottom line is that you need to design bases in this game, which will be able to at least temporarily withstand a visit from the neighbours. At least for basic firebases, I am extremely fond of long, simple roofed passageways with a width of four meters square, which I can simultaneously use as mob killboxes if I need to. If you need help to learn how to design your bases in that manner, play some Rimworld and watch some tutorials on it, because keeping nasty things trapped in narrow passageways where you can easily shoot them in the face in single file, is one of the most important activities in that game.

Always have a fire and a roof on the mountain portal. I've noticed that if it's raining when you portal then you'll get wet when you jump out of the portal and then immediately start to freeze, even with the cloak. So the roof stops the rain and the fire both drys you out and lets you portal up there without a cloak.

Yeah, I was an avid daily player, totally maxed Wolf Armour and Silver Weapons & Shield, prepping for Moder, and the Wolf event was added to the game (this was about 2 months before H & H). I got killed, came back in my Iton Armour and killed off all the wolves, then it hit AGAIN. I made another set of Silver Armour - got killed again … I finally had to get the Recovery Squad to come get me off the mountain. Ridiculous.

I died to that pack of wolves day 99 .... didn't know about it till then ticked me off lol

I had the you are being hunted event while fighting Yagluth absolutely madness. It happens in all biomes so have fun :D

Mountain guide. EG, why to disregard your stance on armor and get properly kitted up before you go to hard areas.

Another tip for the wolf event: hop on a stone tall enough that they can’t get to you and make it rain fire arrows ;). I lucked out and had a rune stone near.

Best way to survive after death, rested buff, foods, bonemass skill, grab your corpse for corpse run buff.. you can kill wolves naked pretty much.

Tip: Always have 2 panic buttons, health potions and bone mass buff. Yes, Eikthyr is good but I rarely use it once I stepped in the mountain biome. Having the safety of bone mass is much much better IMO. Bone mass buff is perfect for dealing w/ being hunted. The hunt event is also a very good way of increasing your club weapons skill really fast. Frostner is perfect due to its strong mob control. I usually get 35 wolves attacking whenever this event pops and I'm like woooo wolf meat!! Regarding health potions, make sure that you are a good distance away from any mob/s before popping this one. This is because your character actually stops to drink the potion and is slowed down for a couple of seconds right after.

Ah yes, the Valheim death loop. One other potentially useful tip is to use the corpse markers as a buff. When you take your items and it crumbles, you get about thirty seconds of the corpse run buff. Which greatly increases your stamina regeneration. Which is useful if you want to keep running. Or if you need to swim further than you normally can.

The 'You are being hunted' event isn't new to H&H, it's always been in the game but thankfully rare. The problem with it is that it's the only non-base raid. You can get it literally anywhere. I've been lucky in getting it in Plains a couple of times. I had some Lox and Fulings nearby and ran towards them. They engaged with the Wolves and I just picked up the loot afterwards. But it's really, REALLY painful if you get it in the Mountain biome. Terrain is your best friend. A cabin roof, a tower, a large boulder or anything you can jump onto can be a life-saver. Although Wolves can negotiate some pretty steep inclines so don't count on them not being able to follow you up, particularly onto boulders. Your other best friend is the Atgeir. Its special 360-degree sweep attack can make short work of Wolves, particularly as it stuns them. In that case, you want the opposite of looking for high terrain. Get onto as flat an area as possible to ensure that the Wolves are in your hit-box. The thing I'd avoid at all costs is trying to run away. Running from Wolves is like running from an AC-130 gunship - you'll just die tired. You can run away from almost all monsters in the game but Wolves and Deathsquitoes are the exception. They are the only two creatures whose melee attacks are faster than your ability to run. Talking of rare raids, I just got Skeleton Surprise at my base in Plains. With 12 tamed Lox around the base?? Er, yeah, skellies, that's not going to work. I picked up 57 Bone Fragments afterwards. Too bad they can't be used for anything in end-game. :-(

Also hitting the ground with Stagbreaker shows "too hard" meaning there's silver under ground.

I just started in the mountain zone.....Some advise? If you come across a two star wolf...run,..run like you never ran before. IDC what armor you have. I don't care what weapons or food you have...fucking run like you life depends on it. Because it does.

If you can get on that boulder on your left at 22:13 right when you see the you are hunted message the wolves shouldn’t be able to attack you there. You can just pick them off with a bow there. This event seems to happen everywhere after the mountains even when you don’t have a workbench so it feels like it’s not a typical raid. Same thing on plains, get onto one of those large rocks where they can’t run up, or they can usually only run up 1 at a time making it much more manageable.

when i'm exploring i like to keep a blank portal (with no 'name') at home base. that way when i get to my destination all i have to do is build a portal, and it's connected right away.

Question, I'm your cooking hit you have like 10+ cooking stations over 1 fire. How do you ever get so much meat at one time you fill that? I've tamed boar's but even in a bigger area only 10 or so are born. Also I'm sure you know but for those who don't if you unbury the entire silver vein make sure no rocks or dirt is touching it. You can explode the entire vein in a few hits. A lot easier than mining little at a time

I haven't gotten the Hunted event yet thank goodness! A stone golem got me and then wolves were all around my many bodies. I've found that the shield and mace like you were using was pretty good and also the atgier. Still I've only ever fought 2 or 3 wolves at a time. Just a note...the wishbone will also alert you for any hidden items not just silver so you may not find silver on your first few tries. :) Oh the death loops. I wish I had all the skills I've lost over the last several months due to death loops! I would have max skills by now if did.

A shield with no armor and no health pool is nearly useless. I also wonder rather than bringing stacks of wood bring Stone instead and raise an indestructible Stone platform?

2:30 I actually wouldn't recommend the wulf cape. Getting 2 wolf trophies can be a pain in the ass sometimes. The loxcape doesn't require any trophies. It requires only 4 lox hide and some silver. Which is easy to get cause loxes are always in a group of at least 2 and each lox gives 2 hides. Also it's easy to get them if there's a bigger rock nearby which you can climb on and take them out. It works with finewood bow and wooden arrows... just takes some time and around 60-80 arrows depending on your bowskill. Death skitos can be terrifying but the serpent shield is enough to block them. So... if you sail around cause you search for chitin or a swamp or serpents and you see 2 loxes on a small island, take the opportunity!

Yeah, climbing on things can be a life saver. However, if you always carry 10 wood (make a work bench) and 20 stone (raise ground) you can "Hoe and Bow" your "wolf materials delivery event." - I've gotten this in Mountains, Plains, Meadows and BF - and dropping a workbench and raising ground has *never* failed me. If I can remember, I'll go get a screen cap from my game of what the base of one of my "raise ground towers" looks like.... think i had 9 dead at the base and a few more had run off and died...

I got done by the wolf pack too. They destroyed my portal and all. Haven’t logged back in yet..

Can I just ask why you always open your inventory to equip your weapons although you have them right there in your hotkey bar? Especially when you‘re fighting like wolves and have to change from bow to maze and shield real quick you lose valuable time by opening your inventory. Also: if you equip a health potion in a hotkey slot you can quickly jug it while running away from your enemies without being distracted by opening your inventory. I mean I get that we all have habits we form early in a game and sometimes it‘s hard to change these later on but I think trying to use the hotkeys more might really be worth it.

have been hunted before but ive always jumped on the biggest rock i could find so they can't get up/one at a time. you had no-where to turn,cat swinging wasn't happening lol! unfortunate....but good viewing!! :-p
