Bretonnia was a legendary army. The feel of having to use the 6th edition codex against 8th edition ones was something to behold. Also, the art in that book is fantastic, shoutout to Paul Dainton for creating those immense artworks. I miss them so much :(

I'm a massive bretonnia fangirl, there is so much I love about them I don't even know where to start. But in all honestly the thing I love about them most (and I know just how weird this sounds) is the peasant units, the Trebuchet, peasant bowmen and most of all the Men-at-arms. Third party models don't do it for me either, its the GW 6th edition bretonnians that got them perfect, they just look so great to me. I'm so glad that I've managed to scrape together a Bretonnian peasant army through Ebay, it costed me less that I expected but took a long time to find the bargains that were fixable. Today is the first time i'm going to get to play with all of them, a full Bretonnian army, outfitted with grail knights, knights of the realm and King Louen.

I think a lot of the "I would have gotten a bretonnia army." That didn't was from the painting challenge.

Great review, you are spot on with you guesses to the wording in the errata. Just a few comments based on the errata: 1. defensive stakes are now just fences. 2. "Virtue of Heroism" now only gives heroic killing blow. That means you are allowed magic weapons. 3. "The Prayer Icon" can be used to give the blessing to a unit of peasants. So it is possible to have a horde of 50 men-at-arms with a 6++ (5++) ward save. 4. "Banner of the Lady" also removed the Skaven's "strength in numbers" rule Do you think that the 4++ ward from the "Grail Shield" also extents to the mount? in that case it makes a hippogriph almost viable.

I really love that you would review these books that we still play to this day.

Everyone has claimed to have wanted a bretonnian army since the end of whfb. Didn't see a whole lot of people actually playing with them. They're one of my great loves. Had a lot of success with that book despite being hamstrung with using a book from 6th edition. It's crazy to think that GW didn't even bother to give them a white dwarf update to help bridge the edition gap.

i feel like battle pilgrims have some uses as a small unit especially if they get flanked. they still get their ward against attacks to the side or rear and have a 5+ ward vs S5 or higher. Plus being stubborn still has its uses. though they feel out of place and i dont know if just getting more men at arms is better. Also, do you play with the FAQs? The bowman's stakes count as a fence for purposes of dangerous terrain. Not only is the Banner of the Lady amazing for your knights combat resolution, but it's insane versus Skaven since they do not receive their 'Strength From Numbers' rule while in base contact with the bearer of the standard (maybe a use for a Skaven assassin haha) Just thought of a decent combo against melee lord armies: Bretonnian Lord with Sirienne's Locket and The Virtue of Heroism accompanied by a Life Damsel and issue a challenge. Probably pretty crazy against Vampire Counts unless they have Killing Blow though I suppose maybe it could be countered by the Grave Guard that are likely in the unit if the VC player then refuses the challenge. alternatively you could have Sirienne's Locket with the Gauntlet of the Duel and the Virtue of Confidence or Sword of Heoroes.

Bretonnians are everything Fantasy is supposed to be. Beautiful, magical, noble, and deadly. What isn't there to love about this army?!?!

I love bretonnia, although, ... not sure if it's something in the army book states but in medieval times (feudal age) not all knights were nobles. Only very few were lords. Most knights weren't nobles but professional soldiers employed by lords and given some of the best equipement (Horse, weapons, armor, etc) and regular training. Given that the Knights of the Realm is a core units, I'd be pretty sure none or very few were noble or lords.

Thanks for making this video, I've been looking forward to it! Edit: Bretonnia was my first army as a kid, because our dad got us the 5th edition starter set with Lizardmen/Bretonnia. I quickly moved on to Orcs and Goblins because the Bretonnians were hard to paint. I've now painted most of my Bretonnians from those days - looking forward to their future return!

YES! Literally waited 17 years for this! One question though which has always bothered me.....grail knights can't be joined by models with the Knights vow or questing Knights vow but it only says questing Knights can't be joined by models with the Knights vow....so can a questing knight unit be joined by a character that has the grail vow? I would have thought no but RAW isn't really clear

The only virtue that I've ever taken more than once in the same army is the virtue of empathy. If you play a scenario where it is necessary to hold a building in order to win the game, you cannot rely on cavalry. Men at Armes with the Icon of Quenelles and with two or three knights with the virtue of empathy is a good choice then.

Grail Relique should be pronounced historically as - "Grale Releek" Grail "Gr (long A) l" Relique "Re (short e) lee (long E) k".

Was that the one with the Lance/Arrow formation? Their charges were wicked brutal. And hordes of Arrows flying over head was Nards.

Dismissing the "Prayer Icon of Quenelles" is imo a big mistake. You should try to put it on a cheap damsel in a huge unit of Men at arms. That 6/5+ ward on 40+ infantry makes em last for ages. in my experience its a "Must include" in most of my builds. Anyways thx for posting. I love Bretts, they were my first army and I rock a 30k collection of them now :)

These reviews are unique on youtube. You give a little bit of context here about Bretonia being powerful in 7th, but that is only partly true. There were 2 Army books that were OP in 6th. Bretonnia and Woodelves. These books did well in 7th for the most part, but fell behind when the books started to power creep. The big 3 of 7th being Dark Elves, Vampires and Daemons of Chaos. The Woodelves and Bretonnias could still compete in 8th, but had few viable builds and fewer margins for error. Woodelves being MSU avoidance and Bretonians being Hero spam with Mountain Chimera delivery system.
