I wasn’t able to get a cane from my doctors, as getting one was too expensive, and I had to get mine second hand, so no one taught me how to use it.This video was very helpful, as there were a few things I was doing wrong, so thank you for making it

stop by a Goodwill store they have really great stuff small prices . Most of the time they have a bunch of canes .My PHY Therapist only recommended using the cane with a handle leaning over simple nothing fancy or with two or more legs on it . Worked the best for me using the one leg helped my balance to develop more a faster .Knee replacement was very painful deal but in 4 weeks i was doing good .

Beth, what an excellent video! Great, straight-forward presentation style; talking speed is just right - not fast; explanations of the pros and cons of each cane type is very useful; easy to follow and understand with very helpful front on and side views of walking styles, especially when turning a corner. I have both the offset cane with the small mini-quad foot and moulded ergonomic handle, and the standard straight cane with a smaller moulded handle - neither are moulded with finger placement curves. I generally use the straight cane inside our small apartment and the offset when I am outside. I had been using the offset for several months before I discovered the height tip of the handle aligning with the wrist crease. Thanks for this very constructive video. As someone who has had multiple strokes, I’ll be sure to look at some of your others. Regards, the cadasilvlogbloke.

for me, this is not really useful as I had polio on my right leg and now I suffer from post-polio syndrome and my right leg has no strength at all and cannot hold my body weight, so to walk I must put the weight of my body on my right arm and then it's transferred to my hand that holds the walking stick then I can take a step, in other words, I cannot walk if I do not have a walking stick or if I ever hurt permanently or lost my right arm I will end up in a wheelchair, the same if I ever damage my good leg (the left one) I won't able to walk even using a walking stick and I must be bound to a wheelchair, so I avoid falls, any type of strain on my right arm or left leg but with age I find it more and more difficult to move around, especially walking downstairs that can be very tricky and dangerous for me.

Hi, what do you do to prevent falls and timing of PPS onset post infection? Thank you
@ROCKGRINDER12
@ROCKGRINDER12 2 күн бұрын
@@michelleramirez5264 Difficult to prevent falls I try to be very careful, but as my right leg has no power, I can't walk without the stick, and that is very difficult as I depend totally on it to walk, I avoid going out on rainy, snowy days, as it can be dangerous for me, the other day I had a fall and I dislocated and fractured my right shoulder as I slipped on the wet floor. Post polio syndrome has no cure, it progresses to the point of letting you without the use of the affected arm or leg, pain in the joints is constant, and gradually it increases, forcing you to take painkillers most of the time; I was very active person in my youth, I used to practice sports, riding bicycle, walking a lot, and even I did Taekwondo for 10 years and participated in "full contact combats competitions " I could not kick with my right leg but it was strong enough to hold my weight and I could use the other leg to kick, I could say I was good in full contact, my disability never stopped me, now I can hardly take a step without first checking if I'll be safe witout taking a fall.
