CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A huge fight erupts when Janis (Lizzy Caplan) calls out Cady (Lindsay Lohan) for her behavior and says she's transformed into a Plastic.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live wrote and appears in this comedy about the alternately funny and terrifying pecking order among teenage girls. Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) is a 15-year-old girl who has spent most of her life in Africa, where she was home-schooled by her zoologist parents. When her family relocates to the United States, Cady finds herself attending a high school in suburban Illinois, where she gets a crash course in the various sub-strata of the student body: the jocks, the cheerleaders, the stoners, the "cool" kids, and so on. Much to her surprise, Cady finds herself embraced by a clique of rich and popular girls known to outsiders as "the Plastics," led by Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Gretchen Weiners (Lacey Chabert), and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried). While Cady is grateful for her new friends, it doesn't take long for her to realize how manipulative they can be, and she soon discovers she's violated an unwritten law when she goes out on a date with Aaron (Jonathan Bennett), who is charming, good looking...and Regina's former boyfriend. It isn't long before Regina and her pals are on the warpath, and Cady must face a level of vengeful behavior for which years in the jungle never prepared her. Joining Tina Fey in the supporting cast are fellow SNL players Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, and Tim Meadows. The screenplay for Mean Girls was based in part on Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends and Other Realities of Adolescence, a book by professional youth counselor Rosalind Wiseman.

But originally, Janis and Damian started talking to her probably because she was new and they originally wanted to protect her from the Plastics. It was after that when Cady got asked to sit with the Plastics that they snatched the opportunity to get revenge.

I find it really cool how they made both of her groups of friends just a little toxic. Regina was a bit more outright but Janice's was more subtle. Regina was a manipulative but Janice was just using Caty too.

@Jessica Hollister Regina used Candy in a way by keeping her on a leash. She knew that Candi would be a threat to Regina's queen Bee status so she made sure that Candai would be her worker Bee. She manipulated Candeh's emotions with the Aaron samuels thing and gave her stockholm syndrome so that Cahndy would still want Regina's approval.

When Janis said "it won a *prize* " I can feel her almost breaking down. Like when you finally let go of the person you try to cling on to. She may have said all those things but her voice trembling at the very end shows she kind of regrets it.

a lot of emotions were going through Janis at that time. She was hurt that Cady lied to them and didn't invite them to their party. Janis and Damian were more her friends than Karen, Regina and Gretchen were. Janis wanted revenge on Regina and did manipulate Cady to get it, but she still did see Cady as a true friend and wanted to do things with her that had nothing to do with Regina.

16 years later I still can't stand the fact that Janis doesn't get any blame for the situation and the whole movie she is seen as "the good girl" even tho is completely true she used Cady for her petty revenge, wanted to hurt Regina and none of the drama would have happened if it wasn't for her. It just boils my blood when at the spring fling scene Cady just sucks up to her and Janis doesn't even apologize for anything.

I didn’t understand how Janis got off scott free. When she was on a rant to Kady, I thought that rant was personal and about herself. Janis was still obsessed about Regina or her revenge against her, and even though Kady got caught up in her façade as plastic, Janis used Kady to exact revenge, and Janis didn’t really become a better friend, unless I missed something important.

Why are you all ignoring the fact that Cady is the one who wanted revenge? Before Regina kissed Aaron, Janice didn’t have any plan. It was only once Cady got pissed at Regina that Janice started helping her come up with ideas for revenge.

She wasn't OUT to get Regina, she just wanted to laugh at the stuff the Plastics say, which -- let's be honest -- is fucking hilarious. She wasn’t toxic but she definitely was bitter. From the looks of it, seemed like Regina was nasty to every person she came encountered with, even her own 2 best friends. Janis wasn’t the only one. And losing Regina as a friend should’ve been a blessing in disguise. Random Thought: My literature professor advised using the word “was” because the stories are happening in the past. The characters used to be young, but now they are old. (Some might even be dead.)

i think the people who are commenting back to those saying "janis is the one who started all of it so why is she attacking cady" are right - the whole thing originally started as a small joke between janis and cady, to just prat about and mess with regina a LITTLE. i don't think at all that the whole thing is about janis wanting revenge on regina, she never states in the beginning "this girl ruined my life, will you help me ruin hers?" she DOES state something similar, but she never uses it as the reason for messing with her in the first place, it was just for laughs. janis never meant for it to go as far as it did - resulting in aaron breaking up with regina, their teacher being accused of drug dealing and basically just a load of shit happening. as janis says, she and regina know and ADMIT that they're mean - cady always plays the innocent girl, and she COULD have wanted it all to stop, she KNEW it was getting out of control but all the rep went to her head. she LIKED being the queen, and she wasn't about to lose it all even if people got hurt in the process. cady could have done something to stop it, she knew it was going too far, but chose not to. that's why janis is so pissed at her.

They even tried REALLY HARD getting Aaron to catch Reginas cheating on him in some room at school -you didn´t see that scene?! Janis stated that Regina would be NOTHING without Aaron and her Fake friends, said "Let´s Take this Bitch down!" and stroke Aaron from their Take-Down-Regina-List when he had broken up with Regina. JANIS coulden´t care less about mean Barbie Regina getting hurt or lonely since Barbie Regina had made basically every girl in school BULLY Janis for "being a lesbian"! Janis was only pissed about CADY getting PLASTIC and Fake in the process of taking Regina down. She was very pissed about qute Cadys HYPOCRISY IN TAKING DOWN A PLASTIC AND BECOMING A PLASTIC HERSELF!

Only she said that she didn't feel bad about the fact that she wanted to laugh at the person who ruined the rest of her school life. Janice didn't try to ruin Regina. Cady did. Janice told her how and because of that she helped. But she still didn't do anything worse than what Regina did. And Regina never apologized to Janice for trying to ruin her life, why should Janice actually have apologized for not even trying to ruin her life even after Regina ruined hers? An eye for an eye even if she did try to ruin her life back. And she didn't even try to to that, so I see no reason for Janice to do any more than admit the things she did wrong.

@ arontamas5639 Janis clearly developed PTSD from being bullied by Regina, which is DO emphasize and feel bad for. But I agree, taking her anger and frustration out on Cady was wrong. That entire speech from Janis should have been for Regina. It fits her well. After Regina’s reputation started going down and she was gaining weight, it became obvious that she’s not at well-liked as she thought she was. Even her own two friends were avoiding her to hang out with Cady instead.

It wasn't just their friendship, I think, but who Cady used to be, an uncorrupt, innocent girl who embraced her uniqueness and didn't have any experience with cliques and status, someone vulnerable to self-manipulation. and then she fell victim to it. The painting was like a reminder of what she used to be, someone capable of true friendship without drama, instead of friendship to boost popularity.

It wasn't until after Regina kiss Aaron and Cady was hurt by it Janis came up with a plan and Cady was on down for it. In this scene Janis had full right to be piss off because she invited Cady to her art show ( which is a normal friend thing to do.) And Cady outright lied to her say she had family thing and couldn't go when she didn't. She blow them and threw a party because she " had to pretend to be plastic" when she didn't.

I think the idea of the film is that they're all mean in their own way, regardless of whether they are Miss Cool, Miss Naive or Miss Loser. Regina is outright mean, Janice uses Cady to get revenge on Regina and ruin her life and thought it was justifiable and Cady is mean for ditching her friends for a better set and treating a guy like property. Karen and Gretchen are actually the nicer girls (not completely nice but nicer). Yes they're dumb and self-centred but they're but they are not vindictive. They just follow mean girls because mean girls wield power and they need a leader.

As much as I love the acting in this scene, I hate how Janis is never called out on her own flaws, and instead is allowed to pin all the blame on Cady and still be portrayed as in the right. This movie leaned so hard into the "not like other girls complex" associating femininity with being shallow, dumb, vindictive, mean, catty, and relying on the male gaze for approval. But when Janis also shows shallowness and meanness and cattiness, she is rewarded and seen as cool.

Oh yeah, the 2000s and 2010s really had a ton of “not like other girls” moments, and it really impacted us as kids. It’s only when we grew older that we realised what’s wrong with that statement. Unfortunately, there are still people in their 30s and even 40s who still act like that.

She got away with no reputation or physical harm, ended with friends and a boyfriend... The movie made her seem like a good person who deserved no karma.

What I've found through my short time in this world is as you get older you notice that this whole click popular people vs other groups bullying never really stops mainly because people just don't grow up. It happens in all walks of life not just when your a teenager.

As the movie progressed, Janice slowly began to ween off of the whole sabotage bit, and and thought Cady would as well. However, by then Cady had gotten obsessed with the entire ordeal.

2-3 years ago....her former best friend thought that she was being jealous and obsessive of her when Janice was actually angry that Regina was being a terrible friend (result of Reginas arrogance)....her former best friend told everyone at school that she was a lesbian and as a result no-one talked to her......she made everyone sign a petition saying that Janice was a lesbian....now she's telling everyone that Janice is on crack......yeah, I would be pretty angry if I were her. And someone needed to tell both Regina and Cady that no-one really likes them......

Brittany Miller Well Janis said Regina ruined her life by making people sign the petition saying that she was a lesbian so she hates Regina for life and would look for any chance to get revenge. Cady however got her heart broken because Regina took Aaron back, her motivation is to get Aaron to break up with Regina. Now that Aaron did break up with Regina, Cady still want to mess with Regina's life so ... she's a mean girl.

It actually still makes me mad how in this scene Janis calls Cady out and that in the end Cady gets blamed for everything, when in reality it all happened bc of Janis. She wanted revenge bc of some petty middle school beef.

i totally agree with cady in this scene. janice is trying to put all the blame on her when she wanted cady to do things to regina from the start simply because she couldn't get over middle school drama. i dont really think cady needed to apologize to janis because of course shes gonna become plastic she's hanging around them 24/7. you are who you hang around.

I agree with Janis Cady LIED to Janis just so she could spend time with Aaron. And while yes I agree that of course Cady was most likely going to become plastic she hurt her friends. She knew things were getting out of control but she didn't do anything about she could have but she didn't and Janis not wanting to be her friend is something she definitely deserved. Plus Janis just asked her to do a couple of things after that Cady came up with plans by herself that were way worse than the ones the 3 created together.

Stephanie Saldivar, atleast Cady admitted to all her mistakes but janis never said sorry to Cady. And i think Cady haven’t realize it yet that it’s getting out of control until this scene. You see she was home schooled all her life, she never had friend( only that one child, her 1st crush who didn’t like her back based from the flashback that was shown) only her mom and dad plus the animals, she don’t know how/what to act in this situation. Noticed that some of the situations she’s in she compared it on what will animal do in the jungle?

She didn't know what to do? She seemed pretty sure of what she was doing. Plus, living in Africa and not having many friends(which I doubt she had none) is no excuse to do that. Though you do have a point, Cady did apologize.

Yes. Cady wouldn't have hung out with the plastics. It was Janice who forced her to. and Cady had to abide by the rules and everything. So she is not at fault here. And she hadn't invited Regina for her party because Janice wanted to take revenge and this would enrage Regina. So it's not her fault.

Without typing out a SUPER long paragraph, I'm gonna try to keep it simple. Both Cady and Janis are in the wrong, yet both are right. And do remember that in the middle of the conflict things start to stir up, so not likely is ANYONE fully right, because that the end of the movie where they all get up for confessions and do a trust fall, Janis confesses her whole plan of revenge on Regina by using Cady.

Janis may not be any better than Regina but at least she knows it. She's not denying it. And she does genuinely see Cady as a friend, so she has a right to be upset that Cady's suddenly blowing her off for the Plastics. It's a very people-pleasing dishonest attitude that Cady's exhibiting and she's not being honest with people. She needs to either be friends with Janis or be friends with the Plastics, but she can't have both. And I think that's basically what Janis is trying to say here.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for Janis. Your friends don't use you! Janis used Cady from day one to get back at Regina. So, while Cady did make her own choices, Janice set her on that path to begin with after that first day in the cafeteria. Janis was only upset because it came back to bite her in the butt. She set Cady on that path and then acted surprised when Cady got sucked into that life. Janis may "know she is mean", but she never apologized for using Cady to get her revenge.

Exactly what you said. Janis expected a Cady to PRETEND to be plastic not actually be one because that was just their plan. And while Janis did use her for part of it you have to admit Cady did deserve this because she lied to her friends just to get Aaron to like her. Plus Cady came up with half the plans by herself and they were worse than the ones the 3 came up with together. Janis did use her but my point is Cady also hurt Janis by lying to her.

I don’t actually think Janis intended to manipulate Cady in a bad way or set out to ruin her. I think Janis was just so deeply hurt by what Regina did to her in eighth grade that she really just wanted to make Regina feel the same pain back. But unfortunately, this is not a good way to handle your resentment or anger you have towards another person. Janis did not actually start the whole “Regina Revenge” experiment with Cady until Cady was asked out of the blue to sit with The Plastics at lunch. At first, she and Damian genuinely wanted to be Cady’s friends and talked to her when nobody else would. The experiment really just started out as Cady hanging out with The Plastics and laughing with Janis about it later. But when Regina purposely stole Aaron Samuels away from Katie at the Halloween party, that’s when the “sabotage” really began. Janis just did not realize how caught up Cady would get with hanging out with the group when she started becoming a “plastic” herself. It was not okay for Cady to start becoming this way, but honestly it was bound to happen. Cady was just so naive and sheltered having been homeschooled her whole life in Africa. When she moved to the states and attended a public high school, she really just was like a lost puppy in a big crowd. She didn’t know which direction to turn or how to make her own decisions very well. She just didn’t know what she was doing.
