@@fabioviti7384 that's actually not always true: Odysseus' fatal flaw is Hubris (best exemplified by him mocking Polyphemus and telling him his name as they sailed away, which allowed Polyphemus to pray to his father Poseidon and ask him to make Odysseus' life a living hell) and he gets a pretty happy ending in The Odyssey. He is an exception tho, so I'll give you that.

It’s kind of ironic (and very depressing) that Jason broke his fatal flaw, and it’s what got him killed. He made the choice that he will die, and not Piper. He chose, without deliberation, to save his friends. He made the most non-deliberative choice possible and died all the same. A true hero.

something interesting to take note of: percy was the only one of the big three's children who could complete the great prophecy. in order to win against the titans whoever was fighting luke would have to trust him. a child of Zeus may let their ambition overtake them and try to take the kill, gaining all the glory. a child of Hades wouldn't trust luke because of his betrayal. a child of Poseidon would trust luke, because they would've been friends at one point.

I liked that you pointed out how similar Thalia and Percy are, with a connection that I never really made. However, I would like to add Nico to that equation. Not due to fatal flaw, but due to everything else: - Look very much alike, with the Mediterranean complexion and build. Along with looking more like their fathers. They could honestly pass for siblings and no one would notice. - Having a thing for blondes, as shown by Luke (and Apollo), Annabeth, and Will respectively. - Weird obsession with cheeseburgers. - Extremely sarcastic and pessimistic (less for Thalia, more with Nico and Percy). - Have been turned into something. - Afraid of their powers or their element: Thalia afraid of heights, Percy afraid of drowning+what he can do, Nico afraid of the dark+his powers. Honestly, you could throw Bianca in there too, since she was afraid of death, had a slight pessimistic streak, and looked like her father.

I would say that Reyna’s fatal flaw isn’t ambition but rather excessive sense of duty/ righteousness and inability to overcome the past. In the Trials of Apollo she felt relieved to have to give up leadership roles like Praetor and join the Hunter of Artemis willingly. I think the reason she takes up such responsibilities is because she feels a sense of duty to do so - to reconcile Greek and romans which led her to seek the Athena Parthenos, to sacrifice herself to deliver the statue because it is the right thing to do, to remain Praetor despite being laboured because she constantly thinks that the romans need a strong leader. This can be her fatal flaw as well - excessive sense of duty/ righteousness - but in Blood of Olympus it is reviewed that she had a dark and traumatic past and refuses to look back into it. Her sister urges her to face the past but she almost refuses to do so, and this kind of shaped her into a person who tries to act strong no matter what.

I don’t think I agree with Reyna’s fatal flaw being ambition. I think it’s closer to Hazel’s - her past, specifically committing patricide. Her fears and guilt drove her to run, physically and emotionally, from something that is an intrinsic part of her. This, in addition to Aphrodite’s statement that “No demigod would heal her heart,” led her to feel inadequate and question her own place in the world of demigods. Reyna’s primary characteristic is her feeling like she doesn’t belong, and that’s what drives her to become her image of a perfect Roman praetor without actually considering her own feelings and desires. Great video!!

Throughout the whole TOA series you can see how he admires them more and more. He wants to be like them and doesn´t really see that he ist enough just as he is. So much that he ist soo fiercely loyal to everyone who sees him as worthy and believes in him.

Riordan is a genius. It's so interesting to see an author take a basic staple of character building in writing and make it a canon force in the story. Fatal Flaws are also known as "Shards of Glass" in the writing community. They're beliefs and experiences that dig under the character's skin, constantly causing pain and irritation and driving their actions and misbeliefs in an attempt to ease that pain. They often cause a character to mistake things they WANT for things they NEED. Luke WANTED to get revenge on Hermes and the other gods for hurting him and his siblings and not acting like family but what he NEEDED was to acknowledge that he didn't need the gods at all because he'd built his own family at the camp that loved and valued him. Like you mentioned with Percy, these Shards can also be beneficial in moderation since our past experiences that cause pain can teach us good things that we overcommit to. Percy grew up with no one that cared about him besides his mother, who always put him first and sacrificed everything for him, even purposefully suffering years of abuse for him. Percy took that example of showing love with loyalty and applied it to everyone he cared for in a similar self-destructive manner, making his personal loyalty into his shard of glass/fatal flaw.

Good timing with this video! I was recently studying the concept of fatal flaws in these books while I was considering some of my own work, because exploring such flaws has always been interesting to me. The only thing I wish they explored more was having more than one flaw, because I feel that most people are realistically more likely to have more than one. But it was still a really clever way to adapt tragic flaws for a modern audience.

My fatal flaw would b insecurity, part of it is that I don't think or believe sometimes that people understand what I'm saying when I try to explain it. And I need people to agree with me a lot more, as if they already do like 4 out of 10, I need like 7 of 10. Its been talked about since 2020 or longer that Percy Jackson will b rebooted as a Disney+ animated series that'll do better then the films did. I've found a fanmade opening intro that looks good.

Harry James Potter has a hero complex which will wear out over time after Voldemort died for real. Ron Bilius Weasley is not getting jealous so much anymore due to having the ones he loved and trusts them all completely like Percy, Bill, Ginny and Hermione. Especially his brother-in-law Harry James Potter. Hermione Jean Granger’s pride won’t stop harming others but at least she recognizes that they are smarter people than her and she will have to accept that. Harry and Ron are smart like the time for Basilisk and the Deathly Hallows. So Their fatal class are finished.

I really like Percy's excessive loyalty to his friends. It really shows what kind of person he is and how much he cares about his family and friends especially Annabeth. In The a battle of the Labyrinth, she's the only one who knew about his Achilles heel and it's why she took the knife for him when Ethan Nakamura attempted to stab him but she took the knife for him when they were fighting Kronos and his army. I also like Annabeth's fatal flaw too. It's really interesting since she's pretty much the only one of the seven that doesn't have a special power.

Percy's flaw is what we call a "MC flaw", symtoms maybe saying things like "I have to do this alone, I cant let anyone else get hurt, I cant stay here my friends need me etc" They generally tend to be teenagers, have some kind of prohecy about them and be stronger than average. Also it mainly effects people who's name is plastered all over the cover/posters. Some famous people to suffer from this are Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Naruto Uzumaki etc.

Oof, Percy's fatal flaw being Loyalty could be written even more tragically in the future, such a personality trait is powerful. I wonder if the Riordan-Verse will end with a super upsetting, classical "Greek Tragedy" situation, Percy's Loyalty to everyone being the main, final straw in the stories epic finale. (Also, Leo having Inferiority and Frank having Low Self-Esteem kinda makes a similar parallel between those 2, funnily enough)

All the evidence point to me being a Hades kid: 1. I have gotten Hades as my parent so many times on the official Camp Half-Blood sorting quiz 2. My fatal flaw is definitely holding grudges. I've been told that it's like I nurture it like a plant or something. 2. I pretty much have all of Nico's personality traits including not trusting people easily, anti-social behaviour, and enjoying the dark better than the light.

I wonder if Frank acquired a new fatal flaw? Like distrust? A big part of HOO was the story around how his life depended on that stick, which, if burned, would kill him. The only people he trusted were Hazel and Percy. It took him a long time to trust the others, especially Leo (because of his connection to Hazel and because of his fire abilities). I bet trust was something that became hard for Frank still after that as well.
@valeriecee54
@valeriecee54 2 жыл бұрын
Is it just me or would I rather have Hazel’s fatal flaw be an actual human emotion? Just reducing her character flaws down to an intangible idea like her past reduces her character and the problems she experiences in her past and present, along with the fact that the rest of the characters have flaws that seem more real like inferiority or pride. I personally think a better fatal flaw for her would be guilt as it ties into the guilt she has over her curse and indirectly resurrecting Gaea, which is something she experiences in both the past and the present. Plus this connects with Nico’s fatal flaw of holding grudges, as they’re both children of the Underworld, but instead of holding a grudge against others, she has a grudge against herself.

Interesting video, Morgan! Nice job. I always look forward to your Percy vids. What do you think your godly parent and potential fatal flaw would be? If you know or have a theory. . . I'd be curious to know I'm a child of Athena, and I think my fatal flaw would be either personal loyalty (leading to me getting taken advantage of or making a bad decision for the bigger picture). or low self-esteem. Which are interesting because they aren't "typical" Athena flaws. But I really do think I'd be a child of Athena over all the other options. Anyway I'm curious what yours are, and thanks I enjoyed the vid!
