Sally Jackson is one of uncle Rick's worst victims. Almost every book Percy just dissapears for weeks, ocasionally becomming a wanted criminal usualy without her hearing anything. And she knows about half of everything in existence is trying to kill him.

1. As someone with ADHD I dont know how Uncle Rick’s son managed to fall asleep with all these exciting stories 2. I love how Mikaila fell for all the plot twists just like all of us 3. Percy Jackson is definitely the Gen Z to Harry Potters millennial 4. The most notable difference between the two series is that HP immerses you in a magical world that takes place around ours while Percy Hackson immerses you in a magical world intertwined with ours 5. Welcome to the fandom!

@@koalaeucalyptus I think they just meant that Percy Jackson took Harry Potter's place as THE coming of age fantasy book series for Gen Z. Like, I'm on the older side of Gen Z, and that's definitely my experience. My older brothers were fully in the Harry Potter world, getting the books and watching the movies as they were coming out, but for Gen Z the books and even to a large extent the movies were already fully out by the time we got to them. I still loved Harry Potter, and it was a part of my childhood, but it felt more like this done thing that everyone had already read or seen. But for me and my younger brother, the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books kind of took the role that the Harry Potter books held for my older brothers, and it seemed this way for other people my age and younger as well. Though much less so towards the end, since I was in High School as Heroes of Olympus wrapped up, and most others my age had moved past it (though I hadn't).

What i personally love about the Series is that "Uncle" Rick never strays from the first person POV. We learn all the things at the same time Percy does, so they sometimes come as quite a shocker. As an Creative Writing/Journalism Major in College, it can be VERY hard to maintain a First Person Perspective writing style as, since your writing the story you know what's going to happen(for like...90% of it at least) and it can be super hard to maintain it through a Book the size of PJO(not to mention an Entire series if books). So Bravo to Rick for it ....
@SuiteDevil7

The sad thing is for Heroes of Olympus he ditched the style. Granted, it might have been a bit confusing since each chapter switched perspectives. Still, it would have been fun. At least he does it in all his other books!

i started pjo a year ago. i'm 21 now. i'm not a big fan of 1st pov. however, pjo convinced me otherwise. it actually feels as if i'm seeing, hearing and feeling everything percy experienced. i like the narration being an extension of his thought processes, and actually feeling his humility. the fact you can tell he's humble while being the strongest demigod to exist, the fact you can actually FEEL it through how he speaks and thinks, i think that's very difficult to convey and rick riordan did an excellent job in communicating the expression. i'm currently reading heroes of olympus. it's taking a while, being a uni student surviving adulthood and assignments. but the stories are just as fantastic and i can't wait to see where this series will take me. and i don't have a favourite character. a lot of them are great. i love them all

This series was one of my favourites as a child, and I still adore it to this day. Percy is one of the most likeable main characters I’ve seen, and it’s genuinely refreshing he’s sassy and snarky and, despite his own impression of himself (which we often adopt because we’re In His Head), actually pretty damn smart. Sally is also one of those truly incredible characters that I genuinely appreciate. It’s so nice to see a protagonist for this genre with a loving supportive parent who is 1) there, 2) cares for them, and 3) is aware of what is going on. A lot of times it’s easier to either remove the parents from the picture, make them bad people, or simply make them too incompetent to notice/magically blinded to the peril their children are going through. Sally is none of the above. And the way the Gabe situation was handled was serious and frankly gratifying (I don’t remember if they ended up fully explaining what happened to Gabe in the first book, but I’m happy it wasn’t a “woman has to martyr herself in abusive relationship forever” situation, and Sally managed to Get Out)

As someone who is now 20 who only got officially diagnosed with dyslexia, adhd and autism a month ago, these books back when I was a kid were an absolute godsend. I felt insanely seen despite not knowing I shared similar diagnosis to the characters. Having dyslexia it also took me far longer to read the books than other kids, so I was engrossed in the Percy Jackson world for about 2-3 years since that was how much time it took me to read the books through the Percy Jackson and hero’s of Olympus series. The casual cruelty, negligence, and abuse present in all the Roald Dahl books make them harder to read as an adult, at least for me. As a kid you take those things for granted, they are part of the scary world you are growing up in, and abusive adults make interesting bad guys in a kids book. As an adult though...I spent less time wrapped up in the magic of James in the Giant peach and more time wondering why the hell no one had called child services. Still loved them as a kid and would give them to my kids if I had any.

Please PLEASE do this for the other books too, if you can. You put a hilarious perspective on things, and it's so much fun to compare my own thoughts to yours. And since you asked, my favourite characters in the Percy Jackson series are Percy, Annabeth, and Nico, and in the whole franchise, those three plus Reyna, Magnus, Alex, the Kane siblings, and Lester. At the end of reading the series you should do a summary video where you talk about your favourite characters, ships, scenes, and overall thoughts on the series! :)

Good point! There are so many books where the Main character is either too bland or relatively interesting but some side character absolutely steals the show. It’s a common “fun” fact in the HP fandom that nobody’s favourite character is Harry (poor boy). In comparison, I enjoy Percy as a character and as protagonist - someone with complexity and lightheartedness despite his hardships and I never get tired of his storytelling style. Additionally, I absolutely adore the Percy-Sally dynamic and Percabeth 😊

I love that you loved when they first called each other Wise Girl and Seaweed Brain 🥺 and when you said Luke had hot energy same man I always thought he was gorgeous too and was heartbroken when he betrayed Annabeth 😭 I also love how you said these stories feel like a bedtime story and talked about how Rick created the series as a bedtime story to help his son see his disability as a good thing 🥺 because it does truly feel like a bedtime story and a warm hug (while dealing with serious subject matter often), Percy is the best narrator ever I think his sass comes through with every word and I love it! This is such a fantastic video! I love your content. I had the first book read to me in the 4th grade, and absolutely fell in love with the story. The year prior I had become a huge fan of Greek Myths, so when I read Percy Jackson it was refreshing to have a light-heartened and modern adaptation of the mythology. (Sadly, I only ever read the second book on my own, after that.) Now, with the show being released, I’ve been re-reading the Lightning Thief (so I can finally read the later books). This video was a lot of fun to watch while I’ve been reading it myself! It was nice to watch a first time reader of the PJ series.

You singlehandedly brought me back headfirst into this fandom when you made that short about how unhinged our Persassy boy is. So, I would like to say welcome. You should read Heroes of Olympus too because I know you will LOVE Leo (and most everything else). My favorite part about that series though is Percy just still being an unhinged dork and everybody else's reaction to that. He still thinks he's a confused but snarky loser who's just making everything up as he goes, Annabeth still thinks he's her lovable idiot, and literally everyone else thinks that he is FREAKING TERRIFYING and always about 30 seconds away from mouthing off the wrong God and either murdering them or getting himself murdered trying. Everybody is of course, objectively correct.

It also helps understand motivations a bit better behind the actions of gods. It made the books "interactive" in a sense that I could not only enjoy the story, but also stop before the reveal and guess myself a bit. I havent really managed to get any creatures right yet bc there are just too many, but I hope I get points for trying.

You have no idea how much joy this brought me today! We are so happy you have joined the fandom! Please read the other books, and the spin-offs, too. I think one (of the many) amazing things about the PJO books is that when you read them as a kid, they are these all-consuming stories that are captivating and something you desperately wish to be a part of. And reading them when you are no longer a small child, you still have all these same feelings, as well as a greater appreciation for the stories themselves and their impacts. I have been brought to tears by Uncle Rick's books just thinking about the fact that a particular section or line is in a kids' book and will be read and absorbed by children. I hope you love the rest of them! Also, shameless plug, if any PJO fan has gotten this far and is at all interested in podcasts, you should listen to Seaweed Brain. Read these as a kid and as an adult recently to prime me for the show. ( I kept all the books all these years lol.) And I have to agree with you, them being kids stressed me out alot more this time around. But I still loved the humor and the characters just like I had when I was 12 myself and reading them for the first time. I will always appreciate people coming into the fandom. It keeps the hype alive. So, welcome to Camp Half Blood! We are glad to have you!

Make sure you read the heroes of Olympus series, I liked it even better, it has some recurring characters and some fantastic new ones.(Leo is my favorite)

WELCOME TO THE PJO UNIVERSE/FANDOM MIKAYLA!!!❤❤❤ Some Plain facts for PJO series (in my opinion): 1. Series of unfortunate events was just painful to read. If I wanted Dystopian stories, I would read books about war or reality. PJO was breath of fresh air honestly. 2. Persassy will always be the favourite for me just because of his sassiness and plain nerve to fight/argue with gods, make them realize their mistakes and not die. 3.Sally Jackson is the best mom. (You cannot change my mind.) 4. Annabeth is one of the biggest reasons why Percy has not been killed in most books. 5. Seaweed brain is literally one of their ship names, (Seaweed =Sea=Poseidon=Percy) (Brain=Athena=Annabeth)

I just stumbled over this but this is great. Really great, I love seeing reactions to books I love and this commentary for every few chapters. I hope you make videos for the rest of the series and maybe for the Heroes of Olympus and Magnus Chase, maybe Apollo and Kane Chronicles. Oh and now is the perfect time to start with Percy Jackson because the first adaptation of the novel airs in December.

Uncle rick has done so much for me growing up. He’s taught me lessons no other author has. Most importantly he’s shown us anyone can be a hero. But yeah I agree he has a special way of talking about tough topics, which kids encounter, in a way that’s easy to comprehend and relate to. Helps us feel less alone in our struggles and helps us understand someone else’s struggles better
