It's playing right now. Why I looked her up. Never wanted to know the sad stories of her life years ago because it let her remain Gidget and innocent to me. I feel bad she struggled so much and died too young. She was adorable and beautiful at the same time. A great actress. She gave us wonderful films and memories. Miss her 💔

There is so much sex abuse and I come from a town originally that is full of it. My heart goes out to what Sandra Dee and many others have been through. There is also alcoholism and drug addiction in my former town. Sandra even opened up about bolemia and anorexia which is all part of this sex abuse as well - not for everyone but for a lot of people. Sandra perished some years ago and she will always be my favorite. RIP Sandra.

I was in tears listening to Sandra & James say they both had a crush on each other back then and never knew. Is it just me or was he flirting with her during this interview?! Apparently he has been married to the same wife for over 65 years so I find that rather odd. They definitely had chemistry in Gidget.....she was so young then though. He did say he was divorced then, and both were shy.....who knows what could have been.

Yeah, that is confusing James seemed perfect for her. I heard that her mother said she was too young and wouldn’t let them date. James married Miss Denmark two years, after divorcing his first wife in 1968. Bobby was smarter he got her mother out of the way and swept Sandra off her feet. I’m sorry no one helped her or Bobby, they both had a lot of hardships. This video was cute.💕🎇🎆

She was a great actress, entertainer, and person. I hope she knew it. What ever she felt and experienced, I hope she was able to heal and be as well as possible before she left us. But you don't have to be a celebrity and over worked to go through and feel things that are very similar. Peace be with all people in this world who have or still are feeling and experiencing the same or similar things. Know that you are worthy and deserving and good enough exactly as you are.

I just wanted to point out that both Bobby and Sandra hurt each other. He walked out on her several times without warning. He kept coming back to her after the divorce (even though he was involved with the woman who would briefly become his second wife, Andrea Yeager), and Sandra even suffered a miscarriage, and his reaction to that was what caused her to never allow him back into her life romantically again. But she never stopped loving him. Given her traumatic background and the issues that stemmed from it, it's hardly a surprise she could never live a normal life. Bobby of course, was in a rush to experience and achieve as much as he could due to his shortened life span. If you read their son's book, "Dream Lovers" you will get a much clearer picture of this volatile couple who loved one another deeply but couldn't live together.

Nikki Livingston Yes, and I believe John Saxon felt the same way about Sandra, but Mary was always there. I think it's very sad that Sandra never experienced what normal teenagers do - dating, etc. I know Sandra loved Bobby dearly, but their relationship was volatile because they were both so troubled. This was sad and hard to watch. I couldn't follow her train of thought very well. Her memories took her all over the place. Sally had to bring her back a couple of times. It's obvious that Sandra's answers were not rehearsed and that this period of her life was not something she dwelt on. All the details were flooding back to her in an almost non-coherent fashion in front of the audience.

In those days, they always had to have a blood test before getting married because at one time, many sexually active people had STD's.

That was all very confusing. A good interviewer would have steered her back onto the right track - too bad Sandra wasn't talking to one,

@Joni.....the blood test had nothing to do with STD`s.....it was all about race-mixing.....the majority of states at that time prohibited inter-racial marriage.....eleven southern states made it a felony for race mixing untill 1976...

"Beyond the Sea" is an excellent movie about Bobby Darin (name taken from a Mandarin restaurant sign) and Sandra Dee, starring and directed by Kevin Spacey. I just watched free on viooz. Entertaining and very well done--as to accuracy? Some fantasy sequences. Much of what Sandra Dee says here is in the movie.

Orange seems to be her favorite color. She wore that a lot in her movies, esp. in 'Gidget'. I love that movie. Sandy and James had great chemistry in it. How I wish they had made more movies together, esp. since she had a crush on him then. Her bubbly and perky blonde was a perfect match for his serious tall, dark and handsome young man.

Couldn't listen to all of interview but I think it was said that she was blindsided by Bobby just leaving without the courtesy of an explanation. Sandra Dee was so beautiful. I am a little taken back by the way her hair is done in this interview.

Thank God she seems to have had some peace and well-being before she passed. I just wish that in this interview that you could have seen what she looked like! It's obvious she was still beautiful but had aged, but they overdid it with her hair here or wig or hair extensions or whatever they did here, that you can't even see her face. I realize that she had abused drugs, alcohol, had probably done permanent damage to her body due to being under weight for so many years, but still. I'm sure if they had done her her up to look more natural and so that you could actually see her that she would've looked much better. Okay, permanent damage had been done due to physical abuse to her body and she had aged, but I'm sure she would've looked better than this if we could have actually seen her face!
