@@iceburg3235 Actually, most companies demand applicants possess skills they don't really need. Like software that would take only a couple weeks to learn. "I appreciated that for the most part the crew weren’t blithering morons" except for whatever company thought that a crew of six people was enough to manage and maintain such a massive facility. That aspect in it self didn't make any sense. Even a small oil rig platform has at least 60 people on it at a given time, enough for people cover all roles for both 12 hour shifts and a massive supply train coming in/out from the shore. For a six man crew its more like the underwater Aquarius research base which was smaller than a 400 foot apartment.

Interesting facts: The actor who played Paul was actually told that the bunny prop he had was going to be replaced in post-production with a 'living' cgi bunny, so to act as if the bunny were real. Only to not do that AT ALL and show it as the character seriously treating his toy bunny as if it were alive; is he crazy or quirky? When they are escaping, the stuffed bunny Liam is holding is seen as a REAL bunny for a brief shot as the doors of his pod shut. _Blending of inanity or reality with the presence of Cthulu?_ who knows. Also, There was an alternate ending where Nora gets away, sacrificing the metal necklace from her fiance to fix the wiring on her pod. But I honestly like the ending where she goes out like a badass, able to save her friends and effect change that way, putting a big middle finger to the monsters.

Honestly... turning towards deep sea mining is not that bad idea. Consider that what resources we have now, almost all came from mines on land, with oil being pretty much the only exception. But considering landmass makes about 1/3 of Earth surface, imagine just how much is hidden down there. We already know bottom of oceans is dotted with solid methane that could be used as a energy source, if handles safely. The problem is that we have nothing that would survive the pressures down there, at least nothing big enough to be effective.

Rich greedy company drills into the ocean floor and awakens an ancient one. They know what they did and pretend it didn't happen and continue to drill again even though they nearly ended all of humanity for money. Maybe rich people are just cultists at this point.

That's a repeating theme in Lovecraftian style horror. Take fallout for example, the company dunwich is basically a cult in the form of a company, trying to unlock hidden dark powers, drilling into deep pits, and reading dark lore.

The biggest plothole in this story is, that no ressource they could possible find down there could ever be as much worth as they would have needed to spend to bring down not 1, not 2, not 3 no at least 4 giant facilities and a giant 600 tons drill. I can barely imagine any company doing this once with hopes of being profitable, but twice? After their first station was completly destroyed, they will rebuild all with the prospect of it, of maybe drilling some weeks before Cthulu destroys it again? How would that make any economic sense?

For every 33 feet you descend into water, you add 1 atmosphere of pressure which is 14.7 pounds per square inch. The bottom of the Mariana Trench would be almost 1,100 times that much, roughly 15,000 pounds per square inch. If a creature from that depth ascended to the surface it would explode before reaching the surface so don't worry about it. How the hell could it get that big when there is literally nothing to eat down there? Leave it alone and it will starve to death.
@cmd062
@cmd062 2 жыл бұрын
Cthulhu is not of the earth so we don't know what effects pressure have on him or the old ones and their spawn; further, he sleeps for millions of years waiting for the stars to align and for his city of R'lyeh that sunk into the ocean to rise or his tomb to be opened which seems to be what the drilling caused.

I've seen the movie 2 times. It's in the middle of an okay/good movie, but it could have been much better!! It had the potential!! It was a bit rushed when they were filming it. The movie just jumped right into the building being flooded out of nowhere! And didn't much give details of the place or the characters. Many characters just died in the first part of the movie from the flooding and the build falling apart in many places. Like I said the movie felt rushed and I wished they took their time a bit more when making it. 🤷‍♀️😄

People saying how it was weird for Cthulhu to suddenly appear in an underwater horror movie, but a really old Saturday morning cartoon called The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot had a similar plot for an episode ("The Lower Depths"). Seriously, a bunch of squid-like creatures come out of an undersea trench and try to replace people Bodysnatchers-style, all at the command of a giant eel-like Old One expy.

Logically, those creatures were absolutely no threat to the surface world. Being evolved to survive in such massive pressures, if they came closer to the surface wouldn't their bodies just explode? It's the same as the Volus in Mass Effect. They can't survive off their homeworld without pressure suits.
