We're moving into a new apartment! And while we're SO excited, moving out is an undeniably chaotic experience. There's shopping for my new apartment, preparing to move everything over to the new space, and trying to stay organized throughout it all... it's a lot.
I know you know what I mean about the chaos of moving! So in this video, I'm sharing how I've been getting organized before packing a single box. There's so much you can do before you start actually moving to make the process feel so much easier!

I declutter, and then just move everything remaining into the new place, and arrange it as attractively as I can. Then I take my time to decide what to change, what to keep. Takes ages, but it’s enjoyable.

When it comes to my moving style, I have a self-reflective approach to it. I find moving is a great time to go through my belongings and clear out the old clutter. I look at my purposes for the move, and in life, and review my goals both long and short term for different areas of my life. I check to see if what I take with me, aligns with these purposes and goals. I also make a list of priorities such as: functional or practical items, items I love for sentimental, or aesthetic, reasons, and for my mental and physical health. The more boxes I check off on my priority list, the more likely I am to keep an item. I hope that helps! Best wishes for your move! I look forward to seeing how you set up your new place!

Hi...I usually prepare for a move by purging everything I don’t want to take to the new place. Donate, sell, give away and trash...then organize and pack the rest👍

I love the kind of move you're doing. I call it a "crossover move" when you have both places for a certain amount of time (usually a month). My first steps after getting access to the place would be to go over and see how clean the place is. If it's done to your standards, great. If not, it's much easier to clean everything before you start to bring stuff in. Once that's done, I usually measure everything because I love making floor plans (this was one of the most fun parts for me about doing interior design classes). I start figuring what will go where. Is there anything that *won't* fit? For example, I've usually had a lot of wall space, so moving into a place with a wall of windows made furniture placement challenging (even though I was excited for direct natural light). Take over the stuff that's currently in your storage to your new storage. Start going through things and moving at least a carload of stuff per day, but make sure it's all stuff you love and need and will use. This includes taking over small pieces of furniture that will fit in your vehicle. As you bring it in, you set it up. Then you take the empty boxes/bins/totes back and reuse them. If an area seems to be getting too full you probably either need to stop bringing that kind of stuff or weed out the less important items you've already brought over so you have room for the important thing that's still at the old place. For example, if you have a lot of craft stuff you might have to weed out your supplies in order to fit a bigger piece, like a Cricut. If your makeup and skin care won't fit in the bathroom, maybe you need to get rid of the things you haven't used since the beginning of the pandemic, lol. Obviously, loading the big items into a truck is all one day near the end. But, by then, most of the other stuff should be done.

Steffi, this was amazing!! I’m just bought a condo and am moving too! I’ve moved many, many times in my life but your ideas really gave me some great ideas for preparation… I’ve got so much to do in the new place!! Calendar view on Asana has saved my behind a jillion times over! Good luck! You two have this in the bag!

So, the mood board is first but then after you search for products other than you put together in the mood board already? Like you said in one of your videos before, I do wish I could get someone to do it all for me. It is just too much and my mood board is lame-o. I just don't know what I what so I am back and forth on everything.
