Not all Aussies live on the coast or in large cities and we actually enjoy the lifestyle here in the "bush." I live in Mildura, (known as the centre of Victoria's Food Bowl) four hours from the closest beach in Adelaide and six hours from Melbourne. The cities ain't bad if you like driving in traffic and being in a queue. However, I prefer to sit on my porch and watch the changing pallet of colours at sunset. The cost of living here, and the quality of food, is pretty awesome as I rarely have to buy fruit and veggies as we get given heaps. I have never paid for grapes, avocadoes, citrus or pumpkins in particular! We have a transient population of work visa backpackers whom we rely upon to "picka de grapes" and the various other crops. Sometimes small communities of these backpackers form camp communities along the Murray River. Also I have a shack beside the Murray, 35 minutes' drive from my home. I stay there just me, a woman in her mid 60s, with my dog when I need solitude and to breathe. I never fear anything, even the snakes aren't scary as I have only seen two snakes in the bush in the 50 years I have been camping, but we get about 5 slithery visitors a year at home because we have chooks (chickens)=mice=snakes! Did you know>>>Twice a day, every day there is about 10-15 minutes when the night birds and day birds stop chirping and change over shifts where there is NO noise? Sadly, we don't often get to hear the silence. However, there is nothing more soothing for the soul than sitting on a riverbank watching the sun do her thing while listening to the Absolute stillness and silence. I often don't see another human being for 7-10 days even though the supermarket is 20 minutes' drive away and I like it just fine. If you do get a chance to go bush, find the silence and breathe! And if you can, please visit Uluru if you want to feel where our heartbeat comes from. Thanks for the vid Dain!

Love the content man! Im at a rock and hard place right now. Soon to be finished/ graduated from university and I am torn between doing a working holiday visa in Australia or starting my graduate job in September :) Like the graduate job pays well but I really didn't enjoy working a corporate job, stuck at an office all day during my placment year, sleep issues ect. Like one of the happiest days was when I was finished there but the pay was good and it allowed me to go travelling in Thailand. Spoken to friends, family, career counselors about this decision and they've adviced going graduate scheme route for 1-2 years then quiting and then go travelling/ working abroad. I just worry if I start this job, I might be more risk-adverse/ more responsibilities that prevent me from doing working holiday visa in the future. I also don't have a drivers licence at the moment, which is another thing holding me back from doing a working holiday right off the back of university. Maybe it would be better to get my licence 1st before going. Hearing your thoughts would be appreciated thanks!

@@Daytondaily Shop Kmart ahead of Target, Aldi ahead of Coles/Woolworths, burger/chicken/bakeries/fish and chip shops ahead of Maccas etc. Pack snacks and lunches from there into cooler bags (insulated bags with an ice brick) and take those with you on trips. The food prices in sight-seeing areas can be quite high. Remember the quoted price is the price you pay, roughly 6/10 of USD, taxes already included and no tips, unless you wish to and think it's well deserved - the national minimum wage is over 14USD, 21AUD.

I did a WHV in New Zealand back in 2015-2016. I came home to Canada and saved a ridiculous amount of $$ with the intent of going to Australia for 1-2 years but ended up landing a job that I had been persuing for several years so I didn't go and instead bought a house and settled down.. COVID happened when I would have been there so I'm unsure of what my thought process would have been being overseas. I highly recommend a WHV to anyone whos even thinking about it. Just take the plunge you wont regret it. You meet so many interesting people from all over the world and will have memories that will last a lifetime.

@@DainLukaI go to Flemington markets and see the local growers and there fruit and vegetables are quite tasty . If you buy from Woolworths they buy in bulk and store them in the cool room . In the IUK most of your fruit and vegetables are imported and when I was over their , I didn’t notice their stuff being any fresher . Since you live in Wollongong go to farmer’s fresh . I visit the Bulli markets and buy fresh produce there from the small farmers . Always my fruit and vegetables are tasty and last longer than Woolworths produce . You can drive inland from Wollongong and find sone farms there . If you can do a trip to Bilpin which is not near Wollongong there is an organic apple farm . So don’t think that our produce isn’t fresh .It is the way the shop owners are storing the produce . Anyway our A grade produce us exported . We get the B grade produce , If you been to Europe , you will find small stores and little old ladies selling their fresh produce that just have been picked . So please do what I just told you and you will find amazing fruit and vegetables .

Stay in the northern areas if you want more consistent warmer weather. Melbourne and Hobart get very cold during autumn / winter. It’s not cheap to live here either, be mindful of that. You’ll be competing with literally thousands of Chinese and Indian migrants for jobs and rentals too. The loveliest capital city in Australia is Adelaide for a whole range of reasons. Investigate that.

It counted towards my 88 days as it was covid related : we did covid vaccines, assisted people that lost jobs due to covid etc. 😊 immigration did tell me on the phone they couldn’t guarantee it would count as my 88 days, they told me to apply and then see if it’s approved - so not guaranteed !

I am a Cypriot guy who came to UK to study in a uni. And man, this country really depresses me. I thought people were being 'soft' when they talked about how depressing the weather could make a person but oh boy were they right. I am used to feeling the warmth of sun nearly ever day of the year so I am going to leave UK after I graduate this year. Australia has always seen to me as the giant version of Cyprus as both countries valued a laid back lifestyle. I am drawn to there for some reason. Knowing that u travelled around plenty, would u prefer moving to a mediterrenean country in europe or would u still choose australia? I am also considering moving to Spain as I am EU citizen and the transition to there would be easier I suppose.

Its a struggle 😅 I do miss the UK but the weather puts me off so much. Its crazy how the sun can just make life BETTER. Hmmmm very different options. Genuine question but how much should I save? I know the recommended amount is 5000 AUD and I’m leaving for Perth Australia in January 2024. We currently have a hostel pre booked for the 4 of us (4 friends going out) but I’m just curious if anyone has any recommendations I’ve just paid for my visa and flight and I am in a saving mode for these last 4 months. Anybody any thoughts or suggestions? As the reviews I’ve seen are mixed between those saying save a lot of money and others barely going out with the recommended amount and making it

A couple of corrections.Only a white person would say Australia is a long distance from anywhere.Look at a map, you will see Australia is at the base of South East Asia.If you live in the north, you can fly to Bali quicker than you can fly to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart or Sydney.Infact, you could sail there. Secondly, bussiness trading hours vary from state to state and from day to day, so I would ignore that informatation. What he said does not apply nationally. Thirdly, the quality of the food is extremely high.
