Regularly asked question
Q) Why are there comments from days ago when this video has just gone live today?
A) Patrons / techmoan usually have early access to videos. I'll show the first version of a video on Patreon and often the feedback I get results in a video going through further revisions to improve it. e.g. Fix audio issues, clarify points, add extra footage or cut extraneous things out. The video that goes live on youtube is the final version.

HILARIOUS! I have only the Osmo Pocket 1, and the "stabilization" of this Moza gimbal can't touch even that - hey, even my "ninja walk" with an ordinary camera looks smoother. You're absolutely right though - the IDEA with the articulating screen was excellent. Oh well, maybe this little bugger will inspire DJI to redesign their existing line.
@LeonardChurch33
@LeonardChurch33 2 жыл бұрын
Matt, I'm curios if there are additional stabilization options when filming at 1080p? Typically the digital stabilization on these types of cameras can't run at max resolution. This is because the stabilization relies on the ability to move a lower resolution viewport around within the area of a high resolution sensor. It's like moving an A4 sheet of paper around inside an A3 picture frame. Some of the better cameras in this space will allow you to find a balance between the resolution and amount of stabilization, e.g. the lower the resolution the more the camera is able to stabilize. Like moving a business card around inside that same A3 picture frame. Not that this feature would fix any of the other problems with the device but it could certainly reduce/eliminate one of your pain points in using it.
@DaleFrewaldt
@DaleFrewaldt 2 жыл бұрын
Preface: I don't know much about how these cameras work. I also wonder if shooting at 60fps hinders its ability to stabilize as well. Wouldn't the camera, at say, 30 fps be able to still capture 60 frames per second and only keep those frames that produce the least movement? That said, Matt's use-case is 4k 60fps stabilized. That's what he wants, that's what he's reviewing. The review wouldn't have been any more favorable if an adjustment in capture settings allowed him to stabilize his image.

That camera does not have good digital IS (Image Stabilization) it was designed to rely on it’s active gimbal stabilization. The best approach could be to shoot at the highest resolution and frame rate possible, then use adobe premier (or alternative) to do image stabilization. This is one of the approaches commonly used in the filming industry, and would work effectively, assuming you have the software tools.

@@MrVolksbeetle a bit of both likely. The lens distorts the view around the edges, because it's having to stretch optically. Software compensating for it can then do a bad job and make it just look sloppy, and have a worse effect. Digital stabilisation would not have Artifacts like fish eye distortion but it is definitely noticeable that the camera doesn't have optical stabilisation.

Adding to this, "moin moin" is the proper formal way of saying it =) Also: It resembles "morning" (morgen in high German), but "moin" or "moin moin" can be used as a greeting AND goodbye at any time of day. Similar to how "ciao" works in Italian. But as said, it is really only a thing in the northern quarter of Germany, and heavily biased to the western bits of that. (I guess the Polish use did come via the northern route from West to East at some point. Didn't know this was a thing until now.)

I think that has to be the most honest review I have seen on anything. I agree, it could have been good, in fact it might have been a leader in its size, but they screwed it up! Why do they not give these things to people to try to get feedback and correct the problems. Trouble is you get one good shot at it and if you fail to impress first time round people that might have bought it will hear about its failings and not bother. Shame, it could have been a winner :-(

4:10 I suppose foldable smartphones could potentially offer a solution to that, having the viewfinder on the bottom half of the screen. I don't think any on the market currently do that, but I'm sure it would be very easy to implement/find a workaround. (I know that doesn't fulfill what you're looking for as it's not ergonomic/natural and controls aren't just a thumb, but figured it would be worth bringing up)

The micro-movement stabilisation you mention is easily achieved with gimbals - and called a 'dead zone' in configs. - an amount of degrees which will be ignored by the controller until you move beyond it. It infuriated me massively that many gimbals have no concept of it- and it's why I still fly my paramotor with a helmet mounted gimbal of my own design.

I just gotta say, I really like the way, the stabilisation looks because it isn't too shaky, but it also doesn't have this gliding gimbal feeling to it, which I personally don't like, because it often looks "too smooth " especially if the cameras position in space isn't stabilised. This one looks more like a heavy handheld TV Camera, which look I personally like very much. That being said, all the other problems, especially the lens distortion are too much
