MP Mark Menzies is being investigated by the Conservative Party following claims he misused campaign funds.
Here, Times Journalist Billy Kenber, who broke the story about MP Mark Menzies losing the Tory whip, discusses the party's investigation.
The Lancashire politician, who represents Fylde, also faced allegations he made a late-night call to a 78-year-old aide asking for help because he had been locked up by “bad people” demanding thousands of pounds for his release.
Mr Menzies disputes the allegations reported by The Times but the Conservative Party is looking into the claims and taking them seriously.
Mr Menzies was stripped of the Tory whip while the investigation was underway. He will now sit as an independent MP.

the worst part is that his alleged crimes were reported to the tory party over 3 months ago and they withheld that information from the police. This guys crimes are just another corrupt tory who thinks he's entitled to other people's money, another one to throw on the pile. The real scandal is the tory party covering up crimes by withholding information from the police. They didn't even sack him until the story was made public, if a journalist hadn't caught wind of this imagine how long this guy would have been allowed to carry on being an MP and having his crimes kept secret by the tory establishment

At the time, Mr Menzies said a number of the allegations were untrue and he "looked forward to setting the record straight".

It's worth pointing out that this is not the first time Menzies has been involved in a scandal. In 2014 he was removed from a Government post for paying an Brazilian rent boy, who was an illegal immigrant and who Menzies asked to supply illegal drugs. On a side note Menzies is a trade envoy to Columbia (is he trying to increase the supply of marching powder?)
