Hey man, thanks for this great video! I just learned a few new things :). The way the process is explained here is just perfect. I would have just one request: Could you make a video with the mpc one about how to fit the samples' speed to the current tracks' bpm? I still struggle with this a lot and would totally appreciate a proper tutorial in this style
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops Жыл бұрын
Thanks. To understand what you're trying to do, are you using a loop and you want to sync it with the current sequence? Or, are you chopping a sample into slices and you want those to be in time with the sequence?
@thedude73
@thedude73 Жыл бұрын
@@OllieLoops I tried to fit the loop into the sequence where I struggle with. The approach of chopping the sample mainly requires the choking function as I understood

I've been wanting this kind of introduction to samples. This is great. For someone working in front of the computer, in your opinion, does it make sense still to have a dedicated hardware sampler? I've been using the Blackbox and like it, but wish it had more tactile pads.
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops Жыл бұрын
Great. Glad you like it. So, I think you have multiple questions that I'll try to address. With the Blackbox, have you tried connecting a midi controller? If you connect an Akai MPK Mini, for example, you would get nice pads to play and it would give you tactile input on the Blackbox. That way, you save money and use what you have and are familiar with. Using an MPC instead would give you many more options over the BB, but do you need more options? If so, then it might be worth considering. Regarding the computer question, this is a really good question. I think there's two schools of thought here: those that don't want to make music with a computer and want dedicated hardware and those who want more control and flexibility in their music production. Computers and DAWs can outperform hardware in terms of editing, processing power, RAM and sound quality. But some people don't find computers as inspiring as dedicated hardware. Going one way or the other is more about feel and inspiration than anything. You have to decide what's best for you and which you find more inspiring, practical, etc. Hope that helps.

How about running the mpc though say a pioneer S9 with the technics Turntable is it just Rca in and out from mixer to Mp? As i dont want to get a preamp the Pioneer has built in thanks
@OllieLoops

That can work. If you have a turntable and DJ mixer, use the line output from the mixer to go into the line input on the MPC.

Excellent video, thanks for the tips! I’m new to the mpc live 2 and maybe you know a simple solution to my problem. Say you load song A and chop some samples (like you did in the video) but you also want to load song B and chop some samples too THEN you want to make a program that has some chops from song A (say pads 1-4) and song B (pads 5-8)… is there an easier way to do this other than exporting every individual chop to a wav and then loading them into the project and assigning them? I’m sure there must be, but I’m still new! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops Жыл бұрын
Thanks and thanks for your comment. Many items in the MPC can be exported and saved for use in other projects including programs. If I understand your scenario, you could save the program in song A, save a program in song B, then import either program in either song or a new one. Also, if you use the Non-Destructive chopping / program assignment method shown in the video, you should only have to import one sample and one program. Think about these parts as modules that you can mix and match per project. You could import samples and programs repeatedly to reuse your favorites. Check out my Key Concepts video for a higher level overview of the MPCs architecture: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r86capRqsbCViqM.html Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll check out that video. I guess the issue I was having was that it just seemed really convoluted and I’m sure I’m missing something simple and I’m probably not explaining it clearly. Basically if I wanted to take 1 bar from a full song, I need to load the full song (footloose as a fun example), chop it to 1 bar, export that chop as footloose bar 1.wav, then repeat to chop bar 1 of a different song (let’s say danger zone), export that chop as danger zone bar 1.wav, then make a new program and load those 2 samples to pad 1 and 2 respectively. Because even if I chop footloose to 1 chop, or 16, making a non destructive program doesn’t seem let me take the sound on pad 1 and put it in a new combined program of both footloose and danger zone chops, basically so I can finger drum both song samples without having to change programs back and forth to trigger either footloose or danger zone. Thanks again for your help!

@OllieLoops Жыл бұрын
@@peterburke579 Thanks for the explanation and awesome song references. We may be getting into 1 on 1 tutorial territory, but here's what I think you could try: Chop each sample into 8 pads and make a new program using non-destructive samples. (I'll explain why 8 in a sec) You can create a new dedicated program or pick one of the two you just created as your primary program. You can then copy the pads from one program into another within the program settings menu. Now, your primary program should have 8 pads of slices from one sample and 8 from the other. The reason you want 8 is because each bank of pads has 16 pads. So the max you can get is 8 per sample if you want 2 different songs chopped up in 1 program. Otherwise, you can do 16 in one bank and 16 in the next bank, all within the same program. Or you could do four of each. It really depends on how much you want to chop the samples into slices. Also, wether you export the original songs into shorter samples is up to you. Technically, the machine's RAM can store the full size versions of the song. But, it won't hurt to make shorter versions. Hope that helps.

this honestly makes it more confusing why do i need to convert to phono just to bring it up to line level
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops 8 ай бұрын
If the turntable only outputs phono level, then the signal needs to be converted. Phono level signal strength is much lower than line level and needs to be converted for optimal signal quality.

I could make the video twice as long and talk slower. Though my fear is that retention will be even worse and I’ll alienate more viewers. Just to let you know why it is designed this way.
