It might actually be funny to have a movie where the house is haunted but the new owners are so annoying that it's the ghost that are getting tormented instead of the people.

Was just checking out 1978's animated TV special _Witch's Night Out_ with SNL's Gilda Radner on KZfaq and there's also a joke there (like the one in _Bride of Boogedy_ with the ice cream flavors) about the "Malicious" character (all the characters have Word names) offering the trick or treaters "Gross Food" combinations = sardine meringue and pepperoni peppermints.

These movies are products of the era they came from. You either get the nostalgia because you grew up with it, or not. But I’ll always play these every October because of all the memories I get watching these as a kid with my family. Love em!

The first film is my childhood nostalgia! I had no idea there was a sequel, nor that these were attempts to make a series. The only way I could see a series working is with the kids so tired of their dad's pranks ("it's just a joke!") and their mom's permissiveness they eventually work *with* Mr. Boogedy to teach the parents a lesson. Maybe they could even help Boogedy lighten up and break his deal with the devil. A parallel story about authority figures making positive changes, apologizing, and reconciling with kids they hurt feels a lot more "Disney-like"

Hey Phelous you look like a better Casey Jones than Stephen Amell

When the wierd ice cream guy mentions his "new flavor : spinach and crunchy bacon bits", amidst all the sounds of disgust and turning down the ice cream, you can VERY CLEARLY hear one of them (no idea which one, except I KNOW it is NOT the ice cream wierdo himself) go "MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm!!" with (apparent) excitement and anticipation. I just find small, unimportant (but highly unusual) things (that maybe most people might miss entirely) like this very funny. Another example of 'blink-and-you-will-miss-it' background hilarity is in the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the one from 1971 with Gene Wilder), during the scene in the first part of the film, in a candy shop, the clerk there is singing "the candyman can" to a bunch of children from behind the shop counter, which has one of those flat surfaces where the employee lifts up a section of the counter in order to get out to the store from behind the counter. When the man lifts this countertop in order to pass through to continue the scene, he visibly WHACKS a little girl right in the face with the countertop as he lifts it up, and they just keep going with the song, not missing a beat, and they not only didn't call cut, they left the scene in. The scene is even included in the animated version of Willy Wonka with Tom and Jerry (so, the animators chose to specifically recreate that moment, AND animate it!). These are the things that I think about. *edited to try and correct spelling :-)

My parents recorded this on an old VHS back to back with the original "Mr. Boogedy". I didn't realize they were two separate movies until I was much older. I remember it just being one really long movie.

Everyone probably stopped caring long ago (if they cared at all), but the premise for the would-be series seems to be a bizarre town, Twin Peaks sorta of thing. Mr. Boogedy probably would've recurred, popping up in throughout the series, but the sequel seems to be setting up the rest of the town, especially because nothing gets paid off for them. Those threads were likely to have carried into the series proper. Thankfully, we'll never know.

The goggles thing was because grapefruit can get REAL unwieldy and shoots juice DIRECTLY into your eyes. And holy SHIT does it burn. The joke STILL doesn't work because in a house of pranks squirting people, having an incidental squirting thing is TOO MUCH.

Some of my first memories were watching these movies...I LOVE them. You needed to see them as a child.

I've seen both and only the first is worth watching. It's like they were desperate to make a series of Boogedy films but thank god they didn't!

I had a big discussion with my friend about these 2 movie a few days ago, about the main plot. William Hanover aka (Boogdy) fell deeply in love with the Widow Maren and purposed to her, but she turned him down. Hanover was prepared to do anything anything....... to win the hand of the widow Maren. Hanover Sold his own soul to the devil much later for a Magic Cloak. and kidnapped Jonathon and took him back to his house, and threatened Maren to marry him, His first spell went horribly wrong and he ended up blowing up his house. The key to defeat Boogdy was his cloak. His Spirit was still around after the kids defeated him. The second Film plot was more the same. Hanover still had a fascination with Widow Maren. the scarest thing about that film was the dream scene with the 2 brothers (having the same dream at the same time) Hanover's Spirit ends up possessing the father and want's the cloak back, after 2 attempts of failure, Linch steals the cloak and get's possessed by boodgy, after making the statues lets loose in the carnival linch heads off to the graveyard and places it onto his Grave (William Hanover) now with the cloak in his possession (Boogdy) Rises from his grave in search of his Widow Maren and cause mayhem.

What no Goongalah? shakes head in disappointment.
