Moments like this when he doesn’t finish the guy off brutally at the end are what make this show a standout. He knows he’s done and not a threat and Ray is not actually a callous man. Many other shows would have the dying man’s words cut off with a shotgun to the head with the shooter saying something biting or sarcastic right after but this show feels so much more human and real in the way it handles these situations.

Ray immediately dropping the mentality of a ruthless killer and telling the dying enemy to try and relax and have at least a death that's as peaceful as possible says so much about his character. It's also a bit of a turning point for Ray, where he starts to recognize some humanity in his victims. I really like the way he falters when Graham mentions how much he regrets getting his friends killed, and how he refuses to take the money afterword. A really solid character moment to round out a great action scene.

@@lordmcsmith that turning point always reminds me of something a soldier told me. Something along the lines of him having killed a lot of people, all of them thought they're on the right side. @camrobertson1886 he's staying square to get the most protection from his body armour. Most body armour is just a front plate and a rear plate - no side plates. Firing side-on is safer when you DON'T have body armour because it minimises your profile. But with regular body armour, it's just exposing your side to bullets. Ray would have been trained to move and shoot as square as possible, at least with body armour on. In fact, if he'd been side on when he took that round midway through the fight, he might have died to it. Standing square saved him.

Yeah, Ray has seen a lot of men uncaringly use others for profit. Like his 'war' with Davros, who was a wannabe gangster that couldn't handle feeling disrespected by Ray and got a lot of people killed because of it. Or how everything went down with Rafael. In Graham he saw a man he respected, who's only thought was for his boys and how his foolish actions got them killed. Davros and Rafael would have been defiant to the end in that situation, thinking only of themselves, but Graham acknowledged his mistakes and regretted the pain he caused. Ray had no hate for the man, only the circumstances that led them here. We saw Ray forge a friendship with Dave, a man hired to kill him. I feel that if circumstances were different, he would have been mates with Graham too.

The way this plays out is so poignant, in the scenes prior, you see the group of men talking about robbing Ray and Gazza but it's not clear if those guys are family or just mates. Then, in his dying breath, the dad laments that they're his sons... There are lots of crime shows that are excellent (Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Barry) but they don't always make you feel as alone and isolated as Mr Inbetween does. It's quite remarkable. I think the reason that people can relate, so much to how Ray is, in this show is because it brings back memories of their childhood and how they grew up; how they were taught to behave to one another. There's only really one reality being promoted in this show and it's respect. This show does it better than any other. There are things, in life, you were taught just never to do. Taking a present off of a child, at Christmas is one of them. Taking the present because you just want to be mean is another. There's also the other scene of two men in their early twenties, purposefully banging into his daughter and breaking her ice cream cone. Firstly, you didn't do that when I was younger as it was just not done. Secondly, you NEVER confronted a father with a young child, no matter what. Thirdly, if you did, well...rest my case. This show reminds me of my youth, how people were when I was a child in the 70's in Scotland. Here's the thing, not only would the police not have been called to the incident, unlike today, had they actually been called they probably would have said to the man that he deserved it and they'd do exactly the same. There were no lawyers to hide behind back then, or should I say, lawyers back then tended to have more of a right & wrong attitude, unlike the money grabbing parasites they are today - if the money's good enough, they'll defend any degenerate regardless what they've done. This show exemplifies the people in this world who see the naked emperor, frustrated that the majority don't. Ray's the one who walks up to him and says _"put some clothes on you pervert."_

i love when he show the guy in the car perspective as him trying to hunt down the snippers. This scene clearly made the viewer understand how hard it is to spot a snipper, whereas in other movies they will just randomly shot and the snipper is gone

And yet even after pressing pause I could barely see the sniper. Imagine with that scene, it's done quickly likely to represent the heat of the action and yet the camera angle looks like it points at where the sniper is.

Like old mate said “bit off more then he could chew” but this scene is still tragic, these guys made a mistake and it cost them, but you can tell they were close friends. Not only did Steve not rat on his mates they came to get him, after each one of the lads is shot Grayem calls out to them. Jim, Bill & Steve, you can see in his last moments the man his heart broken by what his actions have led to It makes each one of these men so much more human not just some random henchmen, genuinely felt sad for them and I commend the writers for being able to pull it off Great writing, great choreography, great cinematography, great show

This might just be the way my warped mind works but consider this. In an alternate universe, Graham is actually Ray. And his crew is actually Ray's crew. The reason I have come to this conclusion is because when Graham, and his boys get assailed by gunfire, he runs out of the car and goes after Steve. Now Steve is wounded, but that doesn't stop Graham from bounding over, picking him up and declaring "Steve, I need you to get up!" After getting peppered by gunfire. Now I can't help but to feel like this is a very Ray thing to do. And to anyone who has watched the entire season they know what I'm talking about in the last episode (Hopefully no spoiler). I see parallels in Graham as I see in Ray.

The M1 carbine and FAL would have penetrated the sides of the car no problem and hit the occupants, the pellets form the shotgun would have gotten stuck in the hood the 1911 would have run out of ammo at 1:18 being that it can hold 7 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber and being hit while wearing body armor would still take out of the fight due to the energy transfer from the bullet being suddenly stopped. overall not very realistic
