1:54 Michael Keaton's real name is Michael Douglas. When he left Pittsburgh and moved to Los Angeles to start acting, he decided to use a stage name to satisfy SAG rules, as there was already an actor (Michael Douglas) and daytime host (Mike Douglas) with the same or similar names. In response to questions as to whether he selected his new surname due to an attraction to actress Diane Keaton, or in homage to silent film actor Buster Keaton, he has responded by saying "it had nothing to do with that." Keaton has said in several interviews that he searched a phone book under "K," saw "Keaton" and decided to stop looking.

The thing she obviously missed was that after his soap opera induced daydream Jack got over his depression as well as his ego to see that Caroline was right in her criticisms. He realized he needed to start taking pride in himself, his home and family so he DID step up and actually start to do things right. You could see he started taking care of things because of the major difference in not only him being well kempt but in the house and children as well. They showed him doing things like washing the windows and painting the fence and cleaning to show he was now actually taking care of things properly rather then being lazy and just shoving things under the bed. The burning of that shirt he loved so much during his depression at the end of the rocky themed montage was to signify the end of that depression and his acceptance of his new role by him giving up his own metaphorical security blanket thus Kenny running away with his own to signify he wasn't ready to give his up just yet . Then there was the change in him with the kids as he started actually parenting them, like with gently finally getting the security blanket from Kenny by negotiating a break from it .

Having worked in a Supermarkets front end for 5 years 20 years back... that store wasnt even half as busy as it can get sometimes. That market in the movie looked like a typical 3-4:30pm afternoon on a Friday... the Friday 8:30-9pm(closing time) was also that weirdest time, like clock work everyone would turn up for some reason then get uptight when you've got 10+ trolleys per machine, and god there was always that ONE person with 2 full trolleys who'd turn up at my checkout 5 minutes before closing, every time. Christmas Eve was a nightmare of epic proportions... still gives me sweaty palms thinking about it.

I'd love to see you guys watch and react to more John Hughes movies. Mr Mom is a great movie. Fun Fact: John Hughes wrote a script called Oil and Vinegar that would have starred Matthew Broderick as a travelling (conservative) salesman travelling across country at night to his wedding where he spots a Rock'n Roll (Rough and Tumble) hitchhiker played by Molly Ringwald and picks her up. The script then follows the two discussing their lives to each other in the car and later in a motel. The characters talk about love and their fears for entering into adulthood as young adults. Those who have read the script say that it bears the most resemblance to The Breakfast Club and some say it was the greatest John Hughes script they had ever read. A movie would have been made around 1987 (one year after Ferris Bueller's Day Off) but the studio wanted script rewrites and John Hughes did not want to do it. Plus John Hughes offered the directing role eventually to Howard Deutch who passed on it because he did not want to overwork himself and Matthew Broderick/Molly Ringwald ran into scheduling conflicts. I really wish Oil and Vinegar would have been made. It seems like it could have been another John Hughes classic! Apparently John Hughes also wrote a script called Barthomelow VS Neff (1991) which would have starred John Candy and Sylvester Stallone as feuding neighbours in suburbia which seems like it would have been a funny movie. If you guys ever visit Chicago, I think it would be cool to see you guys do a tour around the North Shore suburbs of Chicago where John Hughes filmed many of his movies (i.e. Uncle Buck, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Home Alone, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Planes, Trains and Automobiles etc).

That grocery store is giving me flashbacks to the Air Force Base Commissaries I was dragged through growing up. Aisles wide enough for two carts, lane use enforced (by the shoppers, to avoid slaughtering each other!) and if you missed the Planters Peanuts because they had been moved to the upper shelf, well... get what you got and come back another day. And EVERYONE went on payday. Later, being in the Army, the Commissary system (which is run by the DoD, not by the individual services) had improved, but payday was still a nightmare, and I avoided going until at least two days after.

The snooze button was first introduced in the General Electric Telechron bedside alarm clock's 'Snooz-Alarm' button in 1956. The initial plan was to snooze for 10 minutes at a time, but the clock incorporated the new feature into existing alarm clock gears, and it was technically difficult to get the teeth to align for the snooze to have an exact 10-minute duration. It would be a few seconds longer or shorter than 10. It was possible to do exactly 9 minutes with the gearing. Also with later clocks and clock radios, it was more difficult to program a double-digit snooze amount, so the 9-minute standard was kept as the closest duration to 10 minutes using a single digit. In the electronic age especially, programming any duration would have been very easy to design, but by then companies and consumers were long used to the 9 minutes, so the convention was kept.

The 9-minute snooze is because it would have taken another set of microchips to support a count to 10. So 9 was close enough and the companies saved money on the manufacture of alarm clocks. Nowadays that is not an issue so you can set your snooze to watherver you want to.
