You know one of my favorite things about this performance? Watching him listen to her at certain parts. He was possibly more impressed than he thought he’d be. And he did such a good job at framing her up as if to display a flower. He wasn’t “show-boating” or anything even though it was his show. He was humble and showed her to be admired. AND LORD DID SHE SHOW UP FOR THAT BEAUTIFUL PERFORMANCE. The professionalism and mutual appreciation seemed so good, and such a VERY RARE opportunity for anyone to witness. THE OTHER ONE of my favorite things, is the perfection of how their vibratos matched and fell together. I mean, Hi, can you please exquisitely tell a story about a suicide yet make it sound adorably charming..?? Almost irresponsible how well they did that song! LOL!

I was totally in love with her. Some years after this was recorded (around 1978) I was working in an office. A new girl started working there. She was the double of Linda Rondadt. I was smitten and talked to her a lot and felt there was a connection. Then I met her boyfriend. Six foot six and full of muscle. The end.

Linda Ronstadt could sing anything in any genre. Country, blues, pop, rock, bluegrass, show tunes, Tejano, folk, you name it, she could, and did, sing it and sound sensational. One of my favorite singers of the 60's and 70's. Likewise Johnny Cash. Either solo or duet up with Roy Clark, The Highwaymen, June Carter and her kin, Linda Ronstadt, Johnny magnified every song he sang!

I want to say so many things about this. I really do. I cannot find the words. I’ve never been a folk music fan, but this is SPECIAL. Like, A ROYAL, only once, MOMENT. If you understand why this is so good, you have had a tear in your eye listening to and watching this at some point. For the rest, I’m going to have to get back to you when I can find a way to explain it to you. I love the way she felt the need to face his face, not just because a true duet involves a connection, but because with listening while singing, your reverberation is measured by how it bounces off of what you are singing toward, and she did it to match his. Brilliant. And HELLO, it’s Johnny Cash and Linda Ronstadt! She was the most versatile vocalist I’ve ever witnessed.

Ms Ronstandt was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, she is 67 years old, and had difficulty walking, never mind trying to do aerobics. Is not lack of discipline. Is simply hard to even do simple tasks. She has given us so much of her talent, just let her be.

I agree. I find it hard the judgments made on a woman if she "lets herself go". Linda already had a difficult syndrome before her Parkinsons. No-one remains a "babe" forever. Even if a woman is well herself, she may have caring responsibilities, and these increase as we age, and preclude a slavish adherence to a gym routine. (I know that when Linda was young she ran regularly and worked out - almost obligatory where she lived.) As you say, she has given us so much of her talent. She has had a long, amazing career and interpreted songs in ways we will never forget. That is a legacy, not retaining the body of a "babe" into your 70s.

XuXu Luckily women care so much less about looking "hot" as they age than men do. I seriously believe that the most gorgeous women (like Linda) are not the most aware of it. I also think women are realistic. We know that probably mid-50s, with the best will in the world and the most advanced of cosmetics and medical science, is it for us so we have to find other things. Linda certainly has and I wish her well.

She was nice too. It is an old-fashioned concept but she she so was. Emmy-Lou Harris experienced that niceness when Gram Parsons died. Linda was such a good, kind, loyal friend. She looked after her musicians too, recording their songs (Andrew Gold, Little Feat and others) and just supporting them. I saw a concert recorded in Central Park and Linda was like a fond mother with her boys; bouncing around the stage and show-casing all their music. She was one of the most generous, selfless musicians I have ever seen. I so wish her well now she can't sing. She is a better person than me so she will find causes till the day she dies.

Two years after this performance, in 1971, we are resting at a small outdoor arena at Disneyland Gradnight... For, there's too long long of a line at the Matterhorn ride. Then, Linda Rhonstadt with her clinging silky tshirt dress starts singing.. She's just a few yards in front of us.. There are back up players of the future Eagles. Smokey Robinson also performed. If the Disneyland rides are too long, there's a silver lining. And I think I'll remember this night for a long long time.

As somebody who became disabled in my early 60s, I find the comments on Linda's affliction with Parkinsons very cruel. One thing about life is that there always change whether we expect it or not. Linda had a fantastic career as a singer and has received numerous awards. She did not ask for this disease nor did she expect it to happen, just like Michael J Fox, so lets have some respect here!

Yes, I agree. Linda was gorgeous as a young girl. I wanted to be her. She has always sang wonderfully, giving every song she sings its due. That is a given with Linda. You are so right in what you say about her now. She remained and is thoughtful, opinionated and kind. People don't change radically over time and Linda hasn't. She is still that sweet young girl at some level despite the on-the-road experiences, the loneliness, the broken relationships and the terrible illnesses. Now I am seriously impressed by her brave, pragmatic attitude to serious illness and pain.

una mckillen Thank you Una. Being two of Linda's legions we appreciate just how rare a songbird she was and what an original earnest woman of great beauty she remains. You are from across the pond? The UK has always been a bit weak in its devotion to Linda until recently and she does have some rabid fans over there. Wonder why since she is considered by so many in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan etc. to be perhaps the finest female vocalist in American popular music history. To be 12 years old and see this performance and see her live as a teenager in the US rock in' the house was very transformative. The fact that she still has some pathetic men who can't understand why she is not that girl anymore on the poster or album cover just makes her more interesting. I rarely see such misogynist like comments about other female performers of a certain age. People still obsess about her. Mostly though if you know her music beyond the many hits she is deeply well beloved. Cherrio.

+woodrow Yes, I am one of Linda's legions and to me she is unique in the world of pop/rock. No-one has compared. I am from the UK and we are a bit feeble when it comes to Linda. I discovered her in the 80s and now no-one I talk to her has heard of her. I urge them to listen as they are missing a treat but! Well, they don't. The man thing is interesting. I really do think that men's most vitriolic stuff is reserved for women who were once beautiful but did not "steward their beauty (yes, a comment on You Tube.) Like Linda could control those illnesses and the physical changes they wrought (My father was a lovely looking man all his life until he became ill.) Linda could no more control those changes than she could control whether she continued to breathe. She is now in her 60s, not her 20s so even if she were not ill, no-one could expect or even want her to be a "babe". I think she is still beautiful because she is still brave, pragmatic, outward-looking and kind.
