Album: New Harvest... First Gathering
Utgitt: 1977
Låtskrivere: Dolly Parton
Label: RCA Victor
New Harvest...First Gathering is the eighteenth solo studio album by Dolly Parton. It was released on February 14, 1977, by RCA Victor. It is significant for being Parton's first self-produced album, as well as her first effort aimed specifically at the pop charts.
***
Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris & Linda Ronstadt
Dolly! was an American variety show starring Dolly Parton that aired in first-run syndication during the 1976-77 season.
In the mid-1970s, Parton was approached by Bill Graham, president of Show Biz, Inc., the same company that produced The Porter Wagoner Show (on which Parton had costarred for seven years), and soon afterward the syndicated variety show Dolly was born.

Lyrics: He lived by the apple orchard in this little orchard shack His real name was Jackson Taylor but I called him AppleJack Now old AppleJack was loved by everyone he ever knew AppleJack picked apples but he picked the banjo too Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song for me and I'll sing Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song, let your banjo ring Now I'd go down to AppleJack's almost everyday We'd sit and we'd drink applejack that old AppleJack had made Then he'd take his banjo down then he'd ask me if I'd sing And he would play the banjo and I'd play my tambourine Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song for me and I'll sing Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song, let your banjo ring That's when I was just a kid and now that I am grown All I have are memories, old AppleJack is gone Oh but he left me his banjo and it always takes me back And everytime I play it I still hear AppleJack Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song for me and I'll sing Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song, let your banjo ring Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song for me and I'll sing Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song, let your banjo ring Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song for me and I'll sing Play a song for me AppleJack, AppleJack Play a song, let your banjo ring

Dolly Parton is the person I usually point out to people when I want to give an example of someone who is a true super-talent but is often not recognized for the level of her music craft, because of her out-sized persona. I've met many people who think Dolly is just some silly celebrity known for her big wigs and breasts, but she is SO talented it is breath-taking.

I heard a great story about Dolly. An interviewer asked her if she minds that people think she’s a dumb blonde. She replied, “No, because I’m not dumb and I’m not blonde!” Many folks don’t know how amazingly prolific she is as a composer. Dolly wrote the song Whitney Houston made a hit, “I Will Always Love You”, and Kevin Costner insisted the full lyrics be used in the movie.

I worked for a major airline in Nashville as a gate agent. She is the REAL deal. She never hid from the crowds. In fact, she always asked to board early so that she could sign autographs early. She said if she didn't do it that way, the poor flight attendants couldn't do their jobs. She was so right. Otherwise, all they did was run back and forth getting an autograph for another passenger. In person, she is unbelievably beautiful - porcelain skin, beautiful eyes. One Christmas, she dragged a big red Santa sack behind her and gave boxes of candy to all of us who worked on Christmas day. She went from gate to gate. She was consistently kind & approachable, down-to-earth throughout the years. I met ALL the country music people, musicians, authors, movie and tv stars and she will always be in my list of five favorites. Do you want to know who wasn't a favorite? lol

I don't know if many people appreciate country music enough to understand this but with Emmylou and Linda, two queens of country in their own rights, on either side with Dolly in the middle, you've basically got a perfect arrangement and as Ms. Parton writes her own songs, you've also got a perfect song, and the perfect main singer, because Dolly never misses a beat,

What's notable about this is at this time Linda Ronstadt was a 500 times bigger star than either of them and she just hangs back happy to just be part of it all. You'd never know she was the most successful woman in popular music then and possibly in history up to that point.

One of Dolly's early records was one of the first Christmas presents I ever remember getting. I still have it (in a frame in my Den.) I love how Dolly, Linda and Emmylou's voices blend together as if they are intricate puzzle pieces finally being brought together to create one exquisite result. I must agree with other posters here and say that these ladies are the best and the mold was broken when The Lord created them. This type of magic is supremely rare and there aren't many like them (besides some of their contemporaries in that same era.) Today's artists could use an intense History lesson.

Dolly is maybe the best of all time, just on a whole other level above everyone else. She has the best voice, writes great lyrics, plays instruments well and always looks stunningly beautiful. Dolly also is extremely charitable, has been married to the same man since the 1960s and promotes a positive lifestyle.

It is unbelievable that I really never have seen Dolly play any instruments, as on most productions I only see her sing. This was a little before my time, but she is incredible.

Three outstanding talents all singing on one song. No voice enhancing, no orchestra, nothing but pure music 🎶 what's not to like. Absolutely beautiful xxx
