Fully agree with you, but in life I only wish things were so simple. It was not only the Irish that suffered in that time, it was also the English, Irish, Welsh and the Scottish citizens. All ended up on those despicable prison ships. Should other Nations blame all of us for the despicable slave trade? Crewed by fellow Irishmen and other of the former mentioned ? It was "protectionism" by the privileged few few. NO one nation suffered those terrible time alone, We must TRY to learn from those bad times and recent history and still happening in different parts of the world? Unfortuantly so many bigots like to hang on to and spread hatred for which I do not believe was written in haltered by Peter St Jon in 20th c. Let's learn from the song and remember it just a beautiful and kept in context. And as I say quite often Hatred is a cancer nothing more nothing less

Domhnall Ó Súileabháin Prince of Beare How is it a disgusting insult? Just because we altered the song, we don’t have respect? As I said, many of us are descendants of Irish, don’t forget the current amount of Liverpool fans who live in Ireland. We’ve been singing it for multiple decades, I think if people saw it as an insult we wouldn’t be singing it. A lot of our ancestors probably suffered during the famine including mine. The song isn’t out of respect. Nor is it about steel beams and plastic seats.
@DomhnallOSuileabhainPrin-tm1fw3 жыл бұрын
@@paulconnor1630 The song is an anthem to the 1.5 million Irish people who were starved to death in the Irish famine. So idiots like you take the song and expunge all reference to the famine in favour of a bunch of overpaid ball jugglers. If you cant see how this might be insulting then you are a moron.
@paulconnor16303 жыл бұрын
@@DomhnallOSuileabhainPrin-tm1fw First off there's absolutely no need for the insults, if you're not willing to have a civilised conversation without reverting to insults don't reply to me. Second off, do you think that Liverpool fans had that in mind when creating that version? Do you think we were all like 'oh yeah, let's make fun of 1.5 million people dying' or rather 'oh this song has a decent tune/rhythm to it, let's make it into a song'? You're acting as if we don't have any respect. Just because we have an alternative version of the song we automatically don't care about mass starvation and death? And going back to your last comment - yes, it would be nice if we sung the original song also.

@Craig-gq4gb5 жыл бұрын
Leebo 1 Most Liverpudlians have Irish ancestry from the famine migrations and later, the Scouse accent is famed from being derived from the Southern Irish accent. Folk culture such as songs, mythology etc is famous in Glasgow, Liverpool and originating from Ireland. The working class aspect of Liverpool and Ireland is a connection they will forever share. Also the saying ‘scouse not english’? You can work out how that would bridge a connection to Irelands long struggle for freedom. Celtic was literally founded for working class Irish migrants in the slums of Glasgow as a means to alleviate poverty within the city. So theres strong Irish roots in Glasgow and Liverpool historically and culturally. That answer your question lad?
@Craig-gq4gb5 жыл бұрын
Leebo 1 To be fair I’m a scouser myself and I’m not too fond of the old Guinness more of a lager man myself 😁😁
@Northstander5 жыл бұрын
@Leebo 1 Most of the people who left Ireland and settled in places like Glasgow and Liverpool were Roman Catholic, however Guinness was started with funds from the Church of Ireland, or more precisely from a bequest made to Arthur Guinness by Arthur Price, the archbishop of Cashel, in his will. Guinness was a Unionist, so it strikes me as somewhat ironic that his beer is lauded by those of a nationalist persuasion.
@19xMUFC4 жыл бұрын
Not true. Liverpool traditionally the protestant team in Liverpool and Everton were the Catholic team. Man United historically closer ties to Celtic. Nowadays there's no real connection to either but you get Irish who support both LFC and Celtic or MUFC and Celtic and each claim there's this special connection....

@@cleehomes At 2:06 I'd highly doubt any of them are under thirty, mate. Note Liverpool also finished 7th in the 12/13 season, their title run the following season was unexpected to say the least. Sure, they enjoyed many great nights like the night in Istanbul, but they also more recently stuck around when they had Paul Konchesky and Christian Poulsen as marquee signings. To generalize these Liverpool fans as plastic is just short-sighted, when 90% of their countrymen are almost born wearing a United jersey once spat out of the womb!

@@andygray1762 Liverpool have loads of plastic fans from all over the world, just ask a Everton fan they will tell you! Take a close look at this video, the Liverpool fans are all busy taking videos with their mobile phones while Celtic fans are singing their hearts out like proper fans!

@@cleehomes bruh, you cannot base any judgement off 20 odd fans, some of who happen to be recording the marvellous music on display, just saving memories... a true fan isnt defined by how loudly they sing, it can only be proven if they stick with their club through the hardships as well as the good times, as these liverpool fans did... sure, the Celtic fans may be a louder, more passionate fanbase (given their historical ties to Ireland thru emigration), but They have won the last nine league titles, A lot of celtic fans will never have witnessed their club finish outside the top 2... There are certainly plastic liverpool fans scattered across the globe, who are attempting to associate themselves within the success we are now (in 2020, not 2013) enjoying, but to say these fans are plastic is short- sighted, as they maintained their loyalty to the club through that God-awful Roy Hodgson era. If my club was as successful as Celtic were domestically, I too would be singing at the top of my lungs, as they are!

Scousers are thinking ermmmm I thought this was our song. Half of them don't even realise they are ripping it off from an Irish folk song. A bit like Man U fans when they sing the Blaydon Races with slightly changed lyrics although its clearly a Geordie folk song
@Craig-gq4gb6 жыл бұрын
Darren Jones No we do realise that its originally an Irish song, but if you weren’t an arrogant gobshite you’d Liverpool have strong Irish tie hence why are so many Irishmen support Liverpool snd why we sing Fields of Anfield Road (our version)
@stephenlisson19945 жыл бұрын
ALL FOOTBALL TEAMS SONGS are ripped off of other songs. That's the beauty of changing the lyrics to well known tunes. It's not to degrade a wonderful song as this, but to add a different version of it, to support your team. Besides, Liverpool is the capital of Ireland and we scousers know where this song came from....YOU PLANK!!!!

He is right mate, I'm Dundalk born (for 3 months) but grew up a LFC season ticket holder Scouser. If more Irish followed their own teams, Irish football would flourish. I love the Irish (and everyone else who follows the reds) at Anfield, so but don't be nasty, the Irish songs in Liverpool aren't gonna stop.
