Combining these books looks like such a comprehensive way to go! My kids are very kinesthetic and visual learners, so I was hesitant to use Ordinary Parent’s Guide, but now that you’ve given me some idea of what other tools I could use to reinforce what we are learning, lesson by lesson, I think I’m going to give it a try! That Evan moor book is really well laid out. I appreciate you sharing this resource!

Thank you so much for your review. I just finished Logic of English Foundations with my 8 year old. The rules are really pushed in LOE which I loved about the program, but for my son it didn't translate well into reading. He can tell you what every phonogram says on it's own, but has to decode every word before putting it all together. I have ordered this book along with the the Evan Moor books to work on his fluency.

You are amazing! How do you keep things so organized and put together? I’d love to see your lesson plan 😊
@EducationalRoots

Rockstar Rochelle Aw, thanks! I really don’t have any secrets though! Lol! My “lesson plans” consist of an excel spreadsheet for my older girls, but I don’t even plan for my 6 year old. We just simply do the next lesson for all her stuff. I literally open up these books and find the correlating pages when we sit down at the table. Haha! I do have a video on how I do my excel spreadsheet though that I will post.

Thanks so much! I have this book and want to use it so bad but I’ve never been able to figure out how to. This and your most recent video on the reading curriculum is very helpful. I have explode the code level 1 coming in the mail. Do you think these would work along side this just as well? Or does the Evan more books have a better cross over?
@EducationalRoots
@EducationalRoots 4 жыл бұрын
Megan Goodall I only used Explode the Code many years ago when I was teaching kindergarten in a small school, so I don’t really remember. I’m guessing it would be easy to match up though.

Thanks for sharing! My son with dyslexia definitely needs those rules. Have you used All About Spelling?
@EducationalRoots
@EducationalRoots 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have used All About Spelling. I didn’t stick with it though. 🤦‍♀️ It’s a great program but all the stuff just got to me and I found that we weren’t doing it. My now 7th grade dyslexic daughter is using Apples spelling. It’s a workbook made for older kids who struggle with spelling and the rules are drilled into them each day. They also make an Apples 2 that my 10th grader is using.

LOVE all your vids.. Really love your vids concerning all things learning how to Read.. ^_^ May I please ask you,.. Didn't you have a "Genesis" Curriculum..Learn to Read.. vid.. or maybe it was an update vid from last year??..about your little one who was learning how to read w/ GC Giant Leap? Hope this is making some sense.. =P

@@EducationalRoots.. Thank you so much,.. for taking the time to answer my Q.. looking at your Kinder curricula review from last year again.. That! has to be what I was thinking about. Truly greatly appreciate all your vids on Genesis & Easy Peasy.. I can not tell you how much of a help those vids have been.. in sharing the contents, and how the workbooks are intended to be used. I realize that they're very simple and straight forward. However, for people like me..who tend to make things harder than it needs to be..such a great help.. I LOVE so much of what Lee Giles has created..that I always want to purchase all of it every year..even if to just have it on hand as an extra resource.. along w/ other curricula. One can feel the love & care that Lee puts into her work..in providing a comprehensive curriculum..so that anyone & everyone regardless of income has an amazing way to Homeschool.

This was extremely helpful! Thank you! We have started the OPGTR book but are just a few lessons in. Did you use Evan Moor workbooks A and B or did you start using workbooks later on with C?

Mama On A Budget My 6 year old is doing this with me right now. She will be 7 in 2 weeks (first grade). However, a few years ago I used this book with my then 4th grader. We went through the entire book in 10 weeks with her! I found this Evan-Moor workbook (and level C) at the thrift store, brand-new and still in shrink wrap.

Oh phonics and colloquial language. I hear the L when we say those words 😂😂😂😂.

Sandi Miller Lol! She does mention in this book that there may be dialectical differences and such. I definitely hear an l in yolk but not in talk or walk. But the real question is...how do you say crayon? Is it cray-on, cran, or crown? This varies just in my own house! Where’d these kids come from? 🤪

@@EducationalRoots I grew up saying "crown" .. to this day.. I have to purposely think about what I'm saying. Just recently I realized that there are many people who add an "L" to the word "both".. it literally sounds like "bolth".. Threw me for a loop. I thought I was hearing things..
