This is our 3rd episode in the ifr flight tutorial series and today we talk about approach plates and what they mean and how to read them. This is useful info for any flight simulator like microsoft flight simulator 2020, x-plane 11, prepare 3d and any others this is not intended to real life use and only for simulation purposes any other stuff that really doesn't pertain to flight sim will be excluded from the video. This is an in depth tutorial on how to read these approach plates and also we check out 1 other approach that is a little different but both approaches that we discuss today are ils approaches and not rnav approach. What’s Height above Touchdown mean? Is that the height you have to be at the threshold? That’s must not be AGL right cause that would be too high to make the landing,

The hat or height above touchdown is agl level for the minimums. If minimums are met you will descend through that number to land

So when I am in the TBM 930 and doing and I LS approach and where it says minimum’s to put in in the flight plan which number do I follow the localizer number or the I LS number I never know what to type for the minimum when I’m doing a flight plan. And do you have a video on creating a flight plan in sky vector and exporting in msf 2020 and is that better than creating flight plan in the plane?

Hey there what do you mean by ils number or loc number? What minimum are you asking about? I do have video on little navmap but not skyvector . It's always best to create your fpl not in the plane so you have all the resources while making the fpl.

@@2020fserson the biotin of the plate chart in the video under category there are 2 altitudes one is 5526/18 and 5640/24 which one is the correct altitude minimum to put in one looks to be for loc and the other one is for ils.

It depends on the category of aircraft you are flying I go over this in the video .

@@2020fsers one in your video the TBM 930 which one do you select? Minimum altitude numbers are different. I was just wanting to know which one would you select for that flight in your video?

It depends on how fast you are going on approach I also go.over the speeds as well along with aircraft category
