You don't understand the Soviet Union and Russia, Mr Suny. It's only your point of view. Your interpretation of the current conflict is wrong.

Nice lecture, however, I believe that to state that Russians are somehow in search of their identity, is simply untrue. While the concept of geopolitical weakness, and potential threat does make Russia paranoid, it was invaded in the past, and nowadays EU is hosting seminars of the need for "Russia decolonization" aka breaking it into smaller, vassal to the West states. In Ukraine, 1920s were a period of "Ukrainization", prior to WWI, Ukraine was a political project in Austria-Hungarian Empire, as a way to "pull away" population that was mostly rural and was culturally linked to Russia.

@@TiberiiGrakhit's projection on your part. It's something we Americans can't understand. We're the most heavily propagandized people on Earth, we're a country whose history spans only 2.5 centuries, and ill equipped to changes in general. We're going through some major changes atm. Maybe study another history which is indubitably longer than yours. For one thing we never experienced mass scale destruction from a foreign invasion. Only our Civil War. Take these mass seances w a grain of salt. *Also I think she's American and Americans aren't paranoid.

@@aachoocrony5754 , I'm actually Polish. It was amazing to watch American elites and media talking with glee how their sanctions will destroy Russia

Another flawed argument! Perceived threat? Huh How could you argue that nations should simply ignore threat and assume nothing will ever happen to them when the signs of these threats are evident in broad day light? In fact you ended your lecture on a very poor note!
