Kind of funny hearing them complain that Gamera was barely in the movie and toward the end there was finally a fight. MST3K were the ones who cut out the first fight between Gamera and Barugon (at the scene Gamera showed up near the rainbow and was subsequently frozen by Barugon) in order to fit the movie into the time slot for the show.

Joel's voice of Barugon is one of my favourite things in the whole series. "Enjoy me!"

The "science" in these Japanese movies is always hilarious. Apparently, Barugon mutated and grew super-fast because it was exposed to infrared radiation in its egg. Ignoring for the moment that infrared radiation doesn't cause mutations, where does all the extra mass come from? Does it convert energy directly into matter? In that case, it would require an insane amount of energy for it to grow to that size. And it gets better. When the trick with the diamond fails, they deduce that Barugon is now somehow sensitive to infrared because of its earlier exposure, and if they irradiate the diamond with infrared, it will follow it. Except that infrared doesn't make things radioactive. All it does is make them hot.

Expected more adorable moppets stealing flying saucers. Got Zack Snyder's Gamera.

If Gypsy had only been obsessed with Richard Widmark instead of Richard Baseheart, her character would have been so much more interesting.

I consider Gamera vs Barugon(Also known as War of the Monsters) to be One of the Best Japanese Movies Ever Made.
