Went to Japan for the first time finally last May, I can confirm that renting an e-bike is a fantastic way to do the cycle. I felt a little guilty going up the giant hills that take you up to the bridges and passing everyone walking their bikes... but it sure was nice having more energy to enjoy the scenery rather than focusing on grinding your way through the route.

11:12 Quick Bulgaria lesson: Bulgaria is a Slavic nation (like Russia, but also Poland and Croatia, among others). So the language sounds similar. As for the script, it was actually invented in Bulgaria and imported by the Russians. Hence it looks Russian, but it’s actually the other way around. As for the Turkish influences, Turkey was there for only 400 years, which isn’t that much in the grand scheme of things. Bulgarians settled in the area about 1500 years ago. So there is enough of an own identity to hold onto even when ruled by foreigners. After also consider, Greece hasn’t turned Turkish either.

The thing is, Bulgaria is _the_ exception in the Balkans because the the Bulgars were turkic people that became Slavicized.

@@mfaizsyahminot all of us, we are mix of different nations, the Turkish nationalists like to push this propaganda, biologically we do not have common ancestors. We have influences from Turkey, Greece, Romania and Russia, but our original gene is from the Proto Bulgarians and Thracians. The Ottoman rule made us a province of the Ottoman Empire but as history know we rebelled many times and finally got free when the Russian empire helped our rebellion (I know their interests aligned with ours and they didn't do it for us and we could end up occupied by them as a result but still we are still here after so many years, I guess god truly likes us for our stubborn nature).

Yeah out in Denver we don't really have any useful trains/busses, atleast not near me. It's getting better they're putting in more lightrail but there's really no public transit to or from lightrail stations to other destinations so it's pretty useless. We have a train to Winter Park but for the price it's more a tourist attraction than something people use. I will say that bike paths have definitely been getting better so there is hope!

I have rain covers for my biking shoes that work well. As long as you tape the gap between your rain pants and the covers, they should stay very dry, as that's the only way rain might get under the covers.

If you're wondering, the Northeast Corridor is the only part of Amtrak that's profitable and kind of popular. Of course that part of the US has a bunch of big cities that are reasonably close (Boston, New York, Philly, Baltimore, Washington DC) so the train is competitive with the time/hassle of flying or driving.

I've done the Thorpe park one. The design of the track is very simple, it's built for that launch, but I did recomend to my mate to keep your back and head against the chair when launching because you get literally fired off. He didn't listen and did hurt him a little bit. Personal experience just tells me that people are not prepared/paying attention to safety talk/precautions.

If you are going from New York to Philadelphia, do it via the megabus. That is about 3 hours and if you buy the tickets a month in advance, from their site, it is much cheaper. You can buy them at the bus, on the day as well, but cost more.

I'm rollercoaster nerd and I'm disappointed that I'll never get to experience Do-dodonpa. The ride originally didn't accelerate (still had the record) but years back they modified it. Too bad they couldn't have just modified it back. I imagine you didn't ride Eejinaika. I can't imagine Sharla would have wanted to do that one if she was scared of Fujiyama.

As a man about to turn 60, I can't imagine cycling 80 to 100 kilometers a day for fourteen days. Yes, I know there are people my age who do, and run marathons, but I suspect they've kept up with their fitness for years. Anyway, it gives me motivation. Even if I cycle ten miles a day, it would really transform my health and shape. That is, if I lay off the DiGiorno's four cheese pizza. :-0

I lived in Scotland for a decade and a half and used to cycle to and from work every day three miles through the hills for over four years (walked before then). Even went on a few cucling trips to neighboring towns a few times. I loved going all out uphill. Especially when it rained. Don't know why, but it always felt incredible. Now I live in Florida, and it's been years since I even touched a bike. =__=

Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in the world, that is still standing today. Our ancestors invented the Cyrillic script that is widely used across almost all slavic nations. The Bulgarian rulers stopped the Ottomans invading Europe several times before eventually Bulgaria fell. Our people lived under Ottoman rule for around 5 centuries, but they preserved our culture and history although many were murdered because of their origin and religion. Next time, do some research, Donaldson, before you speak utter nonsense. Most Bulgarians nowadays hate the communists and what they did to Bulgaria. Before their rule, Bulgaria was known as Switzerland in the Balkans. Alas, we took part in the second world war on the part of Nazi Germany, though our king reluctantly joined the war on the side of the Nazis, when they threatened to decimate Bulgaria. We know how that turned up at the end. Today, Bulgaria is trying to catch up with the rest of the European countries, although it will be hard with such corrupt politicians.
