I'm a born and raised NY'r, and I'm so happy to see there are model subway trains out there, finally! I've always wanted subway models growing up in the 90's especially the R33WF Redbird (7) trains and the R68 (N) or (D) trains. I've seen the R33's in videos but they're very rare and I would really love to know if they will ever produce the R68's. Idk why they have produced them yet since they even did the R40 slant trains which is freaking awesome cause I grew up with those too. I just hope the R68 gets a model someday and they produce more R33 redbird (7)'s.

Excellently done, finely detailed , NYC Subway car review! (Thanks for the info regarding the green stripe under the car number). I invested a lot in many of these HO scale NYC Subway sets, growing up in The Bronx. The automatic, out and return, features, I really like However the one not so good thing, are the whiting out of the powered car windows. (If it were up to me , I would use, a clear smoked color plastic, still using roof mounted smleds, to keep the powered car lighted, blending in with the rest of the train. MTH was able to do this in O scale. Great Review!

in the 60s, 70s, & 80s - it was common for the MTA to mix and match paint schemes ... you have the 90s paint scheme, when they finally got their act together

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, I believe the powered car would have been fine with clear windows.. I'd rather see the motors through the windows than the whited-out windows.. There may even be a way to go in and hide the motors with say, a crowd of passengers or some other idea... Also, could maybe replace Kadees (except for front and back of train) with permanent draw bars to hold cars closer together... Though I've lived in LA for 42 years I grew up in NYC..Nice to see good looking /operating Red Bird models in HO !

Love this set. However, I had to send the first set back to trainworld because the train flat out didn't work. One of the main issues I have with MTH is their Proto decoders. its crap

some subway cars had three sets of doors per side - some had four sets of doors per side ... it depends on which "line" it ran

Actually, it's which DIVISION it operates in; the A division (IRT) uses the smaller cars with three doors per side, and the B division uses the larger ones with four doors per side. The B division is both the BMT and IND (B-1 and B-2 respectively).

Nowadays, in order to obtain scale model subway cars, they hafta be 3-D printed; the equipment for doing so costs THOUSANDS of dollars....

I'm British myself, I own a 10-car O Gauge model of the R21; I find the British OO Gauge scale too small let alone the American HO which is too small for my taste. When running my O-Gauge R21 on a baseboard errected to my eye-level it looks so realistic, the larger the scale the more realistic they look.
