I used to watch this show with my parents when I was a little girl. I was 7 when this episode first aired. I'm flabbergasted to realize that I'm now older than Nancy Walker was when she appeared in this. Time melts away like a snowman in summer.

@@crystalgrose Julie Kavner has a much more interesting voice. Fran Drescher's voice is extremely nasal and is even grating due to that sound. They don't sound the same to me, although I see what you are getting at. I have never been able to stand Fran's voice.

Ida is 52 years old. She looks ten years older. That means she married when she was 15 years old. She said that she was married for 37 years in previous episodes. The writers probably had forgotten the continuity of the characters.

If you do the math it comes out that she was born in 1922 and according to Wikipedia that is her actual date of birth. Valerie Harper was born in 1939 (in real life according to wikipedia) and she would've been 17 if she had her in real life. So that makes sense to me. On the show Valerie says that she was born in 1941. So yeah, the writer's played around with the dates. But I think she Ida looks 70 and really bad too.

Thats not good even for then but times were different then, esp Ida's generation. Preventative care is a relatively new concept. People didn't go to the doctor unless they absolutely had to.

Nancy Walker created the iconic Ida Morgenstern. She was Brooklyn Jewish but could have been Italian, Irish, West Indian. She stood for all overbearing, overprotective mothers and everyone who had one was blessed. She preceded Ray Romany’s mother. She set the standard. Shalom and RIP Mrs Ida Morgenstern.

John Ritter!! He sure got around back then, he guest starred on several shows back then. LOL. He was probably playing Reverand Fordwick on The Waltons when doing this ep. Brenda must have loved accordian music...Vince and Nick. Yeesh. During the time when landline phones ruled Earth, you simply kept the receiver off to get no calls, and the caller would hear a busy signal, as what Brenda did. Ida is so funny.
