When you get to the airport head to the entrance to the security area to see how long the lines are. If they seem long, then go through security straight away to be sure.

Here’s a tip: Fly Business Class. You get fast-track security so you don’t have to queue for 45 mins! But your previous advice is correct.....ALWAYS go through Security first, no matter how early you get to the airport👍🏻Do all your relaxing & shopping airside, not groundside!👍🏻✈️

Lovely tip, I wish, but I cannot afford Business, too expensive. I only flew once and I loved it, but.... I've been flying economy since I was 5 years old, every single year of my life. Thanks for commenting.

I hated flying out of Frankfurt to the United States. What a cluster (Condor Airlines). We had to go from A gates to B gates. We got through security with no issues. We had to wait until they posted what gate we would be at because they only do it about an hour before the flight. We got to the B gates (in the basement). There was another passport/boarding pass check that no one there seemed to know was going to happen. Instead of making 2 lines like instructed, people just rushed into a big group and were trying to force their way to the people checking passports. Then we had to take shuttle busses (I think 5 in total) a long way to the aircraft. We luckily were near the front of the mass of people and with a US Passport it took about 45 seconds for the lady to check ours. Some people stood in the line for over an hour and we took off almost 2 hours late. No other airport was like that (Rome, Palermo). It's not the same flying out of the US as it is flying in Europe for sure. No communication, no organization.

At aiports, ALWAYS take care of business first. Get checked-in, get through security/immigration, locate your gate, find a nice place to relax/eat/drink/shop and watch the monitors. And, if crossing time zones, make sure you know the local time.

There was an incident at Frankfurt Airport on August, 7. An unauthorised person managed to pass security without having been controlled. So they had to evacuate one terminal and halt all boarding processes which caused those tremendous delays..

I really like your instructional and informative videos! I have question: I'm arriving to Frankfurt Fernbahnhof 10:06 on a Friday morning in February (hoping DB is on time). My flight leaves on terminal 2 at 11.35. I will check-in online and have only a carry-on bag with me, and will surely run through all the hallways if necessary. :D but I guess the security lines are the only unpredictable threat. Do you think it's too risky to have only 90 minutes time on a Friday morning?

Sorry, it wasn't clear. At Frankfurt Airport, you go through security once and then you see the signs for the gates. On the screens where all the flights appear, I saw a gate change. I also got a notification on my Lufthansa App. I hope this clears things up.

Hello, thanks, glad you like my videos. I've never taken gate-to-gate service but I have found a link where you can book it. It sounds very good for people with little time for layovers or for those with limited mobility. www.frankfurt-airport.com/en/travel/transfer.detail.suffix.html/service/comfort-services/gate-to-gate-service.html If you are flying to London and have a connection in Frankfurt, it will depend on the airlines you are flying with and the Terminals you arrive and depart from if you will pass security or not. If both flights are with the same airline, it is possible you will not have to go through security if you arrive and leave from the same terminal. My advice is to always assume you have to go through security. And then if you don't it will be a treat. Have a great flight! Thanks for watching!

Hey MuchoHop. I'm planning on doing the Camino Frances next year. Which airline would you recommend: American, Iberia or Lufthansa? If you have a preference, please explain? And, is there much of a difference? Love your videos!
@MuchoHop
@MuchoHop 6 жыл бұрын
Hi!!! Glad you like my videos. Thanks!! You know, some people have their airline preferences, I don't. I always look for what is most convenient for the lowest price. I try to avoid problems. I rather pay a little more and get a nonstop flight when possible. When you have connecting flights, the probability of delays and problems goes up. Is there much of a difference? For me, the way I see things, all the airlines have seats and they take you to places around the globe. I don't care if I have to walk onto the plane, or have to take a longer bus ride at the airport, or walk straight into the plane from the terminal. I don't care about the food, the entertainment, or even the seat. When I travel, I expect to be inconvenienced and I just relax about it. I've had good and bad experiences with all three airlines. Just find the flight that is most convenient for you and Buen Camino!!! Sounds very exciting, you'll love it!!

I was wondering if u need to put a lock on ur suitcase
@MuchoHop
@MuchoHop 6 жыл бұрын
Not really, but I usually lock my suitcase if I check it in, but rarely do when I have a carry-on, unless it has a built-in lock. There are two things to remember: 1. never ever pack things that are valuable in your suitcase. The items in my suitcase are all replaceable. If my suitcase were to disappear today, I would be upset because of the inconvenience but not because of the value of the content. If you are going to travel with jewelry, computers, medication, cameras, things you treasure, make sure they are with you at all times, in your handbag or carry-on suitcase. 2. If you are going to lock your suitcase, make sure it is a TSA-approved lock (it will say TSA on it and have a keyhole on it (TSA is the US Transportation Security Administration)). If for some reason the TSA need to inspect your suitcase, they will just open your TSA-approved lock. If you don't have a TSA lock, they will CUT your lock to get into your suitcase. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my channel! Happy Travels!

Oh, of course, pros make mistakes all the time, especially in travel, where there are so many determining factors. I just got so relaxed because I had 3.5 hours and security isn't normally like that. I had a very unpleasant experience on my first transatlantic flight. Bare with me, it is applicable to Frankfurt airport in particular. Flew from Manchester UK, to Frankfurt and then onto Newark with Lufthansa. Went through security in Manchester and no problems. Arrived at Frankfurt and was surprised to find my carry on was searched again. As well as my person. Even though I was still in the secure area of the airport and had already been vetted. I am assuming this is a USA destination specific double inspection? Anyway, the staff were VERY rude. The agent that was dealing with me, was insistent I had a pair of scissors in my bag. He kept shouting scissors, scissors and swearing at me in German. He refused to speak English to me, perhaps didn't speak English? The armed guard behind him was staring at me with dead eyes and had his hand on his holstered pistol the whole time. I emptied the bag completely in front of the agent. Went through each pocket and showing him they were empty, lay the bag flat and started pinching the material looking for a pair of scissors that might have gotten into the lining or something. God only knows how but I was demonstrating there were no hidden or concealed pockets. He kept shouting scissors, scissors until I finally broke and just loudly asked if there were any staff here that could speak English? It got very tense, I was on the verge of a panic attack not knowing what to do and then the agent just laughed and shoved my tray of items on the floor and threw my bag to one side. I stood there in disbelief and he pointed to his screen. Suddenly able to speak fluent English, he laughed again and said, it's your zips, they have 2 holes for padlocks, the screen indicated scissor handles. So I had to sit on the floor, repacking my bag as the guard and people stared at me. Horrible experience.
@MuchoHop
@MuchoHop 6 жыл бұрын
Ohhh, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Sounds terrible and frightening. You got a bad agent because most speak English. I guess they really thought you had scissors and wanted you to confess. I think they may have learned a lesson from your experience. Sorry you had to go through it. Thanks for sharing your story.

Thanks, it got even worse than that. Once I was through security, I thought I had plenty of time to get to my gate so I stopped at the bar in the airport and had some tall glasses of wheat beer. It was my first trip abroad, going for the big one. I'd just gotten off my first flight ever, and was going on a 747-400 shortly. After that experience I needed a drink to calm down. So, enjoying a drink and I heard the last call for my flight. I hadn't been at the bar very long. My inexperience showing through. I forgot the time zone difference between the UK and Germany. I lost an hours time. Ran for the flight, stumbling and flustered. The effects of the strong wheat beer kicking in. Reached the gate, straight on the flight and collapsed into my seat. Quite a distressing situation all round and I must admit I was a bit shook up.
@MuchoHop
@MuchoHop 6 жыл бұрын
Oh no! But hey, you were lucky you heard the announcement because now in many airports they don't announce flights. It's a shame you couldn't enjoy your wheat beer. What you are writing can really help the viewers. Many people don't think about the one hour time difference between UK and most EU. That can really mess things up. Also, when there is a time change in spring and fall. I traveled once the morning after the time was changed and I really had to think twice about what time it was. These things can get tricky. Thanks for sharing your story.

Happy to share. What was amusing is that the flight on the 747 was great, a bit of turbulence and a very hard landing but loved the experience of Lufthansa economy on the 747. Plenty of room, great staff, free drinks etc. It was interesting when I landed at Newark and went through immigration. Having never been abroad before and having read horror stories of TSA. Especially with the experience at Frankfurt. I was extremely nervous. Queued up with everyone else from my plane. Glancing at all the signs and basically terrified. Glanced at one of the signs about not bringing fruits or nuts etc into the country. Realised I bought a chocolate nut bar (BIG one) at Frankfurt airport before hitting the bar. It was a very big one, 500g give or take. So I hand over my declaration card, have my photo taken. This is 2004 btw. They take my thumb print, ask me questions about my trip, where I am from, where I am staying and how long etc. All very relaxed and professional. Then I am asked about fruits and nuts. So I showed them the chocolate bar with nuts and explained I didn't realise it could be a problem. I had opened it on the plane to try a little. The agent asked to have a look, peeked inside the big wrapper, snapped off a good piece and popped in in his mouth and just grinned. "Enjoy your stay!". When I got outside and the cold Oct air hit me. The feeling of elation and relief was astonishing. Never had any issues with TSA, friendly and professional people. Caught a bus/coach from Newark to Manhattan as I wanted to see the sights on the way rather than just getting a train. Not much to see for the first half of the ride, till we hit the Lincoln Tunnel and I recognised it from the opening of the Sopranos. Well, the views from then on. It was quite emotional.
@MuchoHop
@MuchoHop 6 жыл бұрын
hahahaha, the TSA guy took a piece of your chocolate, totally unexpected!! Glad you didn't have any problems. When they talk about fruits and nuts they mean fresh food that can have bugs or pests. You can have an apple for example but you have to eat it before you land in the US. A chocolate bar is normally allowed. But, hey, it always depends on the agent and the mood they are in that day. I got goosebumps reading about your arrival in Manhattan. The drive into the city and the departure are always emotional for me.
