I started using my first l-dopa product by UMZU which is pure mucuna pruriens unbeknownst that following the directions to take it daily was actually causing me harm. I am super sensitive to caffeine already and stimulants in general and have SVT which was flared up to the max by week 1 of taking macuna. I was jittery and having heart flutters which was odd because I wasn't taking any caffeine and also taking L-Tyrosine every other day but I wasn't aware of this whole process that l-dopa plays in your nervous system. Your videos are heaven sent! Thank you for being a wealth of knowledge and helping me through this process of re-discovering my passion for supplements but with much more awareness this time!

I really love your presentations because they are well researched and well presented. I would make one suggestion to improve the visual affects of your charts. I like that you flash those charts up there but it’s a lot of info to digest in a short amount of time although they do look impressive and professional. To make it easier to follow, I would pull the attention to the part of the chart that you want us to follow by either circling a specific area with a red pen or drawing an arrow to the part of the chart that you are referring to, otherwise it’s just too much information too fast and it makes me feel that I missed something.

Working memory benefits??? I’m so excited to try this~sipping in coffee right now. Memory is a funny thing because some things I remember well but other things go out my brain so easy! I can’t walk away from my stove… lose stuff all the time… it’s so hard after brain injury but I know the brain is plastic and with all the work I’ve done to improve it, it’s the working memory bit that still trips me all the time… fasting does seem to help clear brain fog for a time! Good luck to everyone ❤️ I know we have to be careful with plant medicine~educate, use intuition, listen to body~ but natural is 1000 times better in most cases to chemical western medicine!

Thanks for the video, very informative!! Is there a difference between taking low amounts everyday and higher amounts every other day in terms of building tolerance? And if you take it every other day, would it also boost dopamine on the days you don't take it? Or would you only experience an effect on the days you DO take it?
@NutritionLibrary3 жыл бұрын
Technically, even if you take it every other day, you will more than likely experience tolerance at some point. It just dramatically slows the process if you take it every other day and in low amounts. On days you don’t take it, you probably won’t make as much dopamine, but I can’t say for certain.

Hi, thanks so much for your video! It's been so hard to get any dosing info from other sites. On the NOW bottle, it says to take with food, but I see one of your responses below says it also does well while fasting. Do you have any insight on which is better- with or without food?
@NutritionLibrary3 жыл бұрын
I tend to take it with food. It helps to balance out the serotonin spike that usually occurs with a meal. This is especially true after lunch. Helps to print blood sugar spikes as well. You can take it while fasting for increased focus and energy, but fasting usually increases that already.

The pods are produced in later summer/early fall so I plan ahead. I shell them and place into the freezer to ration them out through the year. Each day I pull out one pod to consume. The flavor is reminiscent of boiled peanuts. I was originally told to consume one pod daily for 3 weeks on 3 weeks off. I have a variety of the bean that does not have the irritating itchy hairs like the wild varients have. They are known in their native land by the alternative name madness bean lol. Also cow itch. lol. I will tell you that one must be careful where they plant mucina I know a guy in Florida who had an entire oak tree killed by them because they took it over. The ones I plant have behaved and the plus... pests don't mess with them either. Last interesting tidbit to share... mucuna is used as a coffee substitute in central america. I know we still have a lot of troubles in the study of medicine regarding this (they tend to study more men/male mice) but it would be nice to know if women will also get increased testosterone (and I know women actually naturally have quite a bit of it~men just a lot more)… like when you said increased fertility, what about women? For the future, it would be nice. Had this same issue w fasting… is was so hard to sort out what’s for men and what’s for women in the studies… and they have a lot of female viewers… finally found Dr. Mindy who specializes in female fasting -and she makes clear what’s for men and what’s for women. This is a product on the natural medicine list for people with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. There are many studies about. It is recommended not to abuse the doses. It all depends on the brand of the product, the age of the consumer, weight, purpose of use and starting with very small amounts. 1500 mg already seems like a lot for a healthy person but it depens also about how L-dopa really contains those 1500. I would start just with small doses.

If I take it with 5htp should be fine 3 days a week?
@rickosowens26082 жыл бұрын
Hello, Great knowledge and steps to add to health or not----- I notice you commented on great combination for Ryan 7 month of 5htp and lion mane I believe I recall........ however my thoughts is I tried 3 different times and brand and even NOW that you used in your Video... I don't notice any significant benefit.... I was aiming for the energy/motivation arena with this herb, l-dopa 15 %, 40% versions . I recalled l-dopa in another product (a energy pill)were I would immediately recognize a lift in my cognitive thinking and I thought it was l-dopa.. but I never notice any significant benefits concerning brain and motivation concerns. with mucuna... any thoughts or possible directions---- Thanks you do a very excellent , excellent Job thanks again for releasing clear and concise knowledge....

very interesting! maybe try another mucuna! It may be that you have developed a tolerance from taking the other product.

A clear, concise and detailed analysis. Thanks! PS: Do you recommend starting with the every other day approach from day one? I am interested in trying this to help with chronic "brain fog" and fatigue and wondering if that approach might potentially yield an uneven, "up and down" effect.
@NutritionLibrary4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Because it is so potent, you want to make sure to not build up tolerance. Some research suggests that some stimulating compounds can have the most benefit if taken every other day

If I grow the actual macuna beans, do you have a rough estimate of how much I should take of that?

Some studies have used 5 grams of the dried powder. Just make sure to cook it

I read in a review before that mucuna pruriens extract helped the reviewer sleep when taken right before bed. I tried it myself and honestly I saw a huge improvement in my sleep (I'm typically a very light sleeper). I wouldn't think it would work so well, as dopamine is typically a more stimulating neuromodulator, but the results speak for themselves. Any thoughts on this?
@NutritionLibrary2 жыл бұрын
Dopamine also converts into epinephrine. This conversion is less efficient in some people, which can make dopamine a more calming neurotransmitter in some individuals. Just depends on your genetics. I am a high converter to epinephrine, so dopamine is very stimulating for me. Just depends on your genetics.
@kwilson41252 жыл бұрын
@nutrition library How can you test if your dopamine-epinephrine conversion is less efficient, and if it is, what can you do about it? I tried bupropion twice in my life-20 years ago, it was stimulating but when I tried it a few years ago, it made me sleepy? Can efficiency degrade over time? Could tiredness from dopamine drugs or supplements be a sign?

Outstanding information, do you think a first time user should take longjack and mucuna together?
@NutritionLibrary4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That should be fine. Just pay close attention to how they effect you, and introduce them into you diet at separate times.
@ConsciousUniversity4 жыл бұрын
@@NutritionLibrary ok so, do you mean I should take them together but at separate times during the day? I just want to make sure because I know I have low-t and I want to start a low dose. You should really put out a book about this because many men need help. Your channel seems to be doing great but I think an ebook would help too.
@NutritionLibrary4 жыл бұрын
You can take them together or at separate time. It doesn’t matter too much with those two in particular. I just put out a 20 page guide. Download it for free at www.nutrilibrary.com

Is every other day sufficient or will that still produce dopamine deficiency?
@NutritionLibrary3 жыл бұрын
Possibly. There isn’t direct research currently. Every other day is a good guideline though!

Hello, I was taking L-tyrosine 500 mg from the Piping Rock brand and I did not feel any increase in my energy or in my state of mind, could L-dopa have a more positive effect? thanks
