@@SergeLabelle “there is never too much” is very obviously a false and even dangerous statement from a medical point of view these are drugs that alter your body mechanism and can bring it out of balance severly if taken in high doses especially when mixing products. even traditional drugs which are more designed to have only a single effect on the body have alot of interactions and its hard to predict how they interact in the body. herbal drugs in generalhave more points where they do work in the body (hence the lot of benefits through it) but it is often less understood which microprocesses each drug alters so mixing them can lead to unforseen interaction. start slowly and see how your body reacts and dont overdose. more isn’t allways better. also as a intensive care doctor i would advice to be super carfull regarding keto, in fact i would not advice a keto diet at all. it is not a physiological stateof the human body and can in worst case lead to critical illness.

Great advice and very informative! Just one thing I'd like to add: If you're taking ashwgandha for its anti-inflammatory effects or to help with sleep, you could take Gotu Kola (centella asiatica) during your off period. I wouldn't advise taking it for long periods as it may raise blood sugar slightly but its anti-inflammatory and sleep aiding properties are much the same.

Yeah, definitely had some great info on timing. To be honest, I would take his cycling advice with a grain of salt. It seems a bit arbitrary to me. If the rational is general tolerance and homeostasis then he's not really saying anything most people don't know. We should look at which receptors it affects and how they are affected (as it differs by receptor). Tolerance can really differ by substance and if we look at medicines or substances similar to the effect of ashwagandha such as SSRIs, we see that we don't prescribe these in a cycled pattern. In fact we usually have patients take them for at least a year continuously then taper off for the desired outcome. The main thing is, there isn't enough data to make a solid recommendation on cycling times. But hey if 3 months on 1 month off or half week one and half week off feels good for you, go for it

I've never experienced any issue developing a tolerance. I know a bunch of guys who use it like me every single day.
@NutritionLibrary
@NutritionLibrary 4 жыл бұрын
This may be the case to some degree. But I would contend that almost all medicinal compounds, if taken every day, will eventually cause tolerance of some sort. It may not be as noticeable in some individuals, and may not ever be noticed if a less than modest dose is used. Most that I know that take it, and then stop, experience a rebound effect most noticeably in symptoms of anxiety. Even when anxiety wasn’t there in the first place. This is a sign of tolerance was established. But again, everyone is different and may not experience this.

I'm taking three capsules everyday, totaling 1350mg, at a 5% Withanolide content (not KSM-66), from a canister of 180 capsules. When I run out I'll probably give Ashwagandha a break for a couple of weeks, then go on to the Shoden variety. Ash stacks well with Schisandra chinensis and Rhodiola rosea, so that's how I'm going to do it for a little while, but right now I might take my Ashwagandha with some Bacopa monnieri, specifically 'Synapsa' and a 10:1 extract of Ganoderma lucidum. Very relaxing.

I have been taking Ashwagandha for about 3 weeks now, my stress levels are down, I feel calmer and more grounded. But, this week I am waking up at 4.00 ish every morning ( I go to bed at 11.00) , wide awake. I,m not sure if this is due to the herb or some other factor. I will stick with it for another week or so to see if anything changes. PS My body feels "harder and less body fat, but I have also just started HIIT training, so it may be a bit of both. Thank you Zach, VERY helpful video. PS. I take it in the morning after breakfast. Haha PPS. I think I will give your "Micro Cycle" a go, this resonated with me. I do believe our bodies are not designed to take any stimulant/relaxant everyday and certainly not long term. Great advice my friend.

Hello! Love your videos and appreciate how you share knowledge 💕. I’ve been taking Ashwagandha for about 2 months for anxiety. I take one Jarrow Ashwagandha every 12 hours with Tongkat Ali. It’s been very helpful. I’m concerned about cycling from Ashwagandha to avoid developing a tolerance. How can I start the micro cycle you mention in the video like 4 days on and 3 days off. Should I stop taking Ashwagandha for a month and then begin the micro cycle? I plan on stacking Theanine, ginkgo Biloba, Korean ginseng, and phosphatidyl serine for off days. is this a good plan or can I simply start the micro cycle? Thanks for reading all of this 😊

Man your channel is amazing! instant subbed! so i was thinking about a cycle of sorts, with 4 compounds: ASHWA, RODHIOLA, GINSENG PANAX and L-THIANINE The original plan was to take a pill with every compound and thats done, but as i was researching ive come across some info about this isnt the most productive take ,culminating in this video. So my new plan is: ASHWA 5 days;RODHIOLA 5 days;GINSENG 5 days and L-THIANINE 5 days. See, trough monday to friday i use a compound, weekends off and start a new compound next week. Id love to hear whats your take on this and would help a lot.ah Its mainly for stress! thanks!

Willian monteiro pires wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea. But I think a better approach would be two pair two of the compounds together like Ash + Ginseng on workout days and Rhodiola + theanine on non workout days. That way the effects can build up without you developing tolerance. I’ve actually done the above stack

Not sure it makes sense to try and knock down morning cortisol levels, that's when it's supposed to be high to help you wake up and get moving. I think your spot on that afternoon dosing will help prevent stressful events from the day preventing the cortisol levels dropping like they should to allow for the normal sleep cycle.

Why do people always want to over-consume? Don't we all agree that anything in big amounts is bad for us? I personally believe that the best way to make use of herb is by taking it when necessary, on the lowest days of the week ; Possibly once or maybe even twice a week. I've seen a lot of conflicting information about tolerance to ashwagandha. When you consider that there are plenty of drugs that people take long term that act on the brain (I myself take meds for epilepsy), it's clear that not all compounds result in tolerance. What research has been done on this topic with Ashwagandha?
@NutritionLibrary
@NutritionLibrary 4 жыл бұрын
That’s a very good point. I can’t say this is the case with your situation in particular, but a lot of medications that are effective over the long run are effective largely because of the the adaptations that the body undergoes because of taking the compound for a long period of time. A lot antidepressants are like this, in that they are only effective in the since that they cause receptor adaptations after you take them for long periods of time. A lot of the later generation anti depressants aren’t effective unless you take them long term.

@HeartFeltGesture
@HeartFeltGesture Жыл бұрын
@@justineandserena You can do it a few ways. In a weekly cycle you can do 5 days on 2 days off (weekends) take another adaptogen for those 2 days. Or 1 month on 1 adaptogen and then switch to another for a month and then another until you come back around. Or you can combine 2 at the same time for 5 days and then 2 days off. Or combine 2 adaptogens for a month and then stop and introduce another 2 for a month. The body will always adapt itself and lower the efficacy of herbs, this is why cycling is necessary. I have now also introduced Astragalus into my adaptogen regimine, take a look at the benefits - scitechdaily.com/8-amazing-benefits-of-astragalus-root-according-to-scientific-studies/ Take adaptogens on an empty stomach in the morning (at least 30-60 minutes before food) with 2 tablespoons of cider vinegar in spring water / filtered water to improve digestion / absorption.

Like 4 days of ashwagandha and then 3 days of Ginseng (or Rhodiola) with L-Theanine. But now when considering that some effects will start to show after 2 weeks or so, is weekly cycle enough to get those more long term benefits. If so would those smaller off days be enough to avoid tolerance. I think that would be really Interesting topic, I will definitely try to look into this further and experiment on myself.

If I have taken ashwaganda for a longer time (years) every single day, or a maximum of 2-3 weeks of pause, could I develop withdrawal symptoms? Actually I have trouble sleeping now, and waking up early with a high level of anxiety (which could caused by overproduced cortisol, I think). And is this cycle best for all nootropics/supplements? 2) When starting ashwaganda should I take it for 2-3 weeks straight and THEN start cycling? Or should I just start the 5 days on, 1-3 days off right from the beginning?

most supplments that strongly effect neurotransmitter levels should be cycled occasionally. My rule of thumb is to do a 1-3 month cycle of daily use, followed by 1-3 weeks off. Then start your micro cyles. Also there is no hard evidence for how many days to be off and on. They are general recommendations based on what works for a lot of other people.

Great info. The forskolin thing is very obscure in most of the ashwagandha info out there. You really know your stuff! I wonder if this tolerance thing also counts for poisons.
