My community has a lot of talented and upcoming editors so I wanted to give some knowledge back.
Today I asked you, the viewers, to send me over your KZfaq videos so I could go over the thumbnails, the title and the video itself to give any feedback that I could and maybe help you get a better understanding of what to do better in the future or maybe I'll even learn something from your videos myself!

Mudan's honesty, even at times where it may not be the most positive of feedback, never comes off as a roast to be an ass, it's always said with genuine sincerity (with some added quick visuals and sfx on top which lower the blow even more) - i could sit for hours and just listen to him critique anything and everything

This video could have been titled *Professional Editor Inflicts EMOTIONAL DAMAGE on his Viewers* and it would have been accurate🤣🤣🤣. Jokes aside, I appreciate all the valuable advice Mudan gave us all, and I am now making a conscious effort to grab the viewers' attention within the first ten seconds of the videos. There were some really good submissions, and I am glad Mudan rated my effort higher than Evan's. Also, the improved thumbnails parts are a nice touch to the video!

I love that Mudan was super into that painting video. It wasn't hyper-edited, it didn't have the flashiest thumbnail in the world, but in the end...it was unique and stood out. I'd definitely watch that too 👌

Whilst I don't intend to video edit, this was still pretty interesting to watch. I'm not entirely sure you are on point about the anime review though. A lot of times when I finish an anime, I like to watch a review of it to just kinda see what other people thought about it and see if it lined up with my opinion. The more I like the show, the more I'm likely to do this. I've watched like 30 reviews of mushoku tensei because I loved that show and just wanted to talk about it, but have no one to talk about it too. From various comments from anime reviewers, it actually seems like the majority of anime review watchers are there to confirm their opinion, rather than find out anything new or see if they would want to watch the show. I will say, if I am in that mood, one thing that can kinda grate on me is long intros. Like, I know why I'm here, they know why I'm here, just start talking about the things in the show that were important. I don't really care about how you came to find out about the show or that it's by your favorite author or really anything to do with you at all. Not at first at least, I don't know you at that point. I do care about the show so the faster you can get into that, and what parts of the show you liked and thought were well done, the better. That will foster a sense of kinship with the viewer and make them more likely to stick around, at least, in my observation. Same thing with a negative review, get to that part first and quickly so that if I also feel negative about the show, I'll feel a connection. It feels like many people that aren't as big that do intros are just trying to get needed exposition out of the way, but that's the opposite of what the intro should be. The most important parts are how the video starts, and how it ends, those should be your most engaging and interesting. If you feel a need to put in extraneous details, sprinkle them through in the middle at least. It's especially frustrating because often times the thumbnail and title should be doing the job of a normal intro. That should already tell me what's going to happen and why I should care. Deliver on that promise in the first few seconds, and I'll probably watch. I'd also say, in general, if I were looking for a video review of something I might watch, I'm far more likely to watch someone I already know, whose tastes I can easily account for. If I watch a random reviewer, which sometimes I don't have a choice, then it can be hard to contextualize the review, because I don't know what kind of things bother them or what they've liked in previous things. If gigguk or scamboli start talking about a new show like it's amazing, I can probably figure out if I'm likely to feel the same way, but with someone I don't know, that's a lot harder.

Personally I have been conditioned to skip 1-2 minutes into the video to skip ads/meaningless chatter that often buffers the start of youtube videos so I think to minmax audience retention you should put something good in that range as well. If I have to skip twice or more times to get to the "content" that is one of the things that will make me stop watching a channel period.
