Mother's basement is one of the few channels that I've learned, even if I don't give a shit about the subject, I'm going to watch the video and love every second. I think it's the genuine passion he puts into them that sell it. He could have the thumbnail equivalent of nails on a chalk board and I would cringe, then click through.

Canipa Effect are the most appealing ones to me. most of the others just are too much for me persoanlly, like if you have text, faces, circles etc all in different colours and all that it's too much to take in. I see it and I'm like: If you asking me for a click that desperatly it's probably not worth it. like the extra face that you made just for the thumbnail at this point is just raising a wrong expectation xD I know this goes against most of what KZfaqrs work with and I know that most people would klick on it for the exact reasons that turn me away but to me it's just to much. :D Also weirdly: The Trash Taste Thumbnails are quite effective and stand out because they don't use red text. I think the red is just too much out there on many thumbnails of other channels. :D

I think The Masked Man has my favorite thumbnails in anitube imo. When I look at a thumbnail I immediately know it's his video. Ofcourse that's just my personal opinion.

Personally, when it comes to words, I feel it's a whole another type of beast. Font, size and colour of the words matters. Like if there's a glow on the words, what colour is the glow, and what colour the word being glowed is. How much real estate the words occupy in the thumbnail also matters, too much and it's ugly, too little and the viewer browsing through might not get the idea. And, when it comes to fonts, literally any font besides Impact would at least shed light on what the content of the video might be. The Impact font is so overused on YT that it's basically the blandest font you can pick, doesn't show your personality at all since everyone and their grandmother has at least seen a thumbnail with the Impact font.

I don't do youtube, but I am a professional graphic designer and I have been just thinking about if I could do better thumbnails, but probably not. Like I would make them look nice, but no idea if I am going to make them catchy which is especially hard with the limited space you have. When I work on Posters or covers for books and magazines you have a bit bigger dimensions and can play around with macro and micro size (etc.), getting that contrast, you know. But that's just almost impossible with these tiny thumbnails. And as you pointed out, they need to feel fresh and not dated.

Not something that I think about too often. Its something that sometimes ppl get a feeling of even if they arent able to fully explain why. I can definitely say i cant fully explain it myself, but out of everyone here I would say Korewa is definitely the top of the top. Algorithm master for sure

Honestly I don't think Nux is Algorithm Master, I don't see how someone can look at the absolute mess that are his thumbnails and get interested. When I gaze over his thumbnails on my recomendations I instinctively mark his videos as "not interested" because I don't even want to try to understand what is going on.

I think that ForneverWorld's thumbnails are fine (at least c tier ), especially Fornever news, the thumbnails are smart, they usually contain pictures of anime mc related to the news, which encourages people to click and find out abt whats the news on the certain anime ... etc

If I had to judge your video's thumbnails then I'd out it in a high B or low A cause I'm more of a simplistic person. Btw you should've rated the masked man

Aki thumbnail is my personal favourite out of all of these because its clean, tell a story and title straight to the point. Next one is Sydney (same reason)

I would recommend totally not mark as well because his thumbnails are one of the best. Either A or algorithm master because he generally gets more views than his sub counts and not to mention he draws them by himself and some of them look clean.
