Essentially that was the case near the end of his stints with both the Jays and Cubs who, despite his being ineligible for play, invited him to join them during their respective postseasons because he was so good for team chemistry. Kawa being Kawa, he showed up for every game and you can see him out on the field celebrating with the Cubs when they won the Series that season

my favourite blue jay ever. at the time he joined the bench, morale was very low. the dugout needed a clown. he arrived, and everyone loosened up. everyone's stats went up. and he could play! i remember sitting in the 500s watching him knock that single to win it. clutch play in a tense moment.

@@cooledry well he kinda rolled around the majors from team to team. So he got stuck in a lot of positions both in the batting order and defensively that made it difficult to stand out. Real lunchbox player as far as stats. But you don't spend years in the show if you're japanese unless you bring some skills.

After Munenori returned to Japan, he suffered from mental illness. Maybe he was trying too hard to play the character. But seeing him still playing in an independent league in Japan gives me courage. He is my number one hero because he followed Ichiro, whom I admire, across the ocean and was loved in a foreign land.

I remember Kawasaki being in camp with the Cubs after his Blue Jays run and I genuinely hoped he would make the team as a backup infielder. IIRC, he spent the season with Iowa and had a few spots with the Cubs. Oh well. Just like Bobby Scales and Matt Murton in his 2nd stint with the team. As much as I wanted to see them be on the MLB field, it never came to be.
