Just to compare the 1974 version, this is fast-paced, less talk, better cinematography of course and different ending, and younger cast lol. I watched both in one day. Both. Both is good.

The tone of this one felt better. You can tell that the murder is truly broken in their motivation and you can feel their sad desperation. That it also challenged Poirot's views just makes it a fantastic story.

I prefer the TV series version though. There's something heartbreaking to see Poirot talking about how humanity need to put the law above everyone else and not become their own police, judge and executioner. You can see him left the train with a very sorrowful face. He knew he did right but it torn him apart to make that decision.

Notice the gaze from the passengers whenever Ratchett (Johnny Depp) passes by. You can see the Doctor give a hard look at Ratchett then looks toward the other guy subtly showing they knew each other. Then the Princess takes a second scowling look at Ratchett as he passes by, at first you'd think it's because of his comments to the dogs. Nice little details for a second viewing.

I loved this movie. As a matter of fact, everyone I know loved it. It was so lush and stylish. The characters were terrific and it just bursted alive on the big screen with the great sound and cinematography. Well done.

Spoiler alert 7:45, Hubbard (Pfeiffer) and Ratchett (Depp). If you watched this movie the 2nd time after knowing everything, its mindblowing observing the short interaction, shes basically conversing and "pretend flirting" with the man that killed her family.

I love how, knowing the true meaning behind everything in this scene, MacQueen’s hesitation isn’t because “oh goody, weird bunk mate”, but because “oh no, famous detective showing up right before a premeditated murder”. All the minute expressions on their faces that have totally different meaning once you learn their reason for being on that train... it’s amazing.

Kenneth Branagh does a good job of balancing the traits that made Agatha Christie hate her own creation, his arrogance and fussiness, with the traits that made fans love him, not just his intelligence but his disarming nature, his sympathy for other people, and his cheeky sense of humor. Still, even after all these years, there's no substitute for just reading the original novel by Agatha herself.

A lot are complaining about this movie, but Kenneth literally said that he wanted this movie to have a more mysterious and theatrical take. That’s why the big mustache, that’s why the big SNCF 241 A (reverse smoke deflectors and cowcather for a more epic look) instead of a smaller 231 or 230, that’s why he made the avalanche on top of a mountain with some open space for the characters/actors to move around more instead of the inside of the coaches and that’s why he used a lot of CGI. But don’t forget they made an entire loco plus tender, a luggage wagon, three coaches and amazing sets just saw this movie. Of course some parts could’ve been better, acting wise and story wise, but every movie has that. Also Kenneth is a theater player and writer so another reason for the theatrical look. If you look at this movie in a more mysterious way, you might enjoy this movie much more!

Because this entire film is a farce. Theres a reason its a famous book. And they changed it all! In comparison, the 1974 film EVERY word, and EVERY scene was tied to the mystery. Had meaning. It was meant to. "Why Did You Remove This Dagger from its Place!" every word was a hint. This movie destroyed every hint. They turned a Mystery/Crime/Suspense classic.. into a Shocker.

@@cherrylatte277That is how movie adaptions of books go. I can name maybe 4 that can be called almost exact from the book: Sin City, To Kill a Mockingbird, No Country for Old Men, and the Green Mile. Most others have big changes or cut a lot of unneeded material. That doesn't make them bad. You just have to accept the changes or you cannot enjoy movies like Lord of the Rings and Hardy Potter. This was a fun adaption.

This part respectfully reminded me of James Cameron's Titanic when everyone is boarding. The idea is everyone is coming onto a glamorous vessel for whatever reason and yet not suspect anything that could go wrong.

I think that is the point in that it is supposed to be slightly funny. Poirot's mustache is supposed to be an extraordinary piece of facial furniture that it is all anyone notices when they first see him. That makes it a pretty good mustache as it is an incredible one.

after having seen this movie a couple of times now, I wonder if the reason why the count looks so angry and acts so strange and on edge when the photographer comes up to him is because he's staring at / or has noticed the man who caused the ruin of his beloved wife's family and caused her to become the way she is - it looks like ratchett is seated at a table in the general area that he's looking at, at least. makes me wonder if he's beating the crap out of those men because he wants to do that to ratchett but can't

Am I the only one who could have gone for a movie/tie-in novel, that was her backstory? She's one of those women (From the period) who was clearly highly intelligent, charming, and gifted at reading people, but figured out that she could get further and she could play people (particularly men) by feigning a lack of intelligence and good sense, making herself seem like a silly, rich, beauty pageant queen type. I'd love to see how she wielded that power of beauty, intelligence, and charm.

If you had to deal with the paparazzi as often as he did, you probably would do that. As well he is an accomplished dancer who can move his body well and is fit. A roundhouse kick while seemingly unorthodox is an easy method of knocking someone out.

He wouldn't have done that. At best he wouldn't have taken the picture in the first place, at worst he would have run for it. Those cameras cost a lot of money in their day, money a freelance photographer could ill afford.

despite the existence of the 1950s version, I like this version much more because of the amazing shots and acting from the cast, also the humor is more enjoyable.

Johnny Depp is such a charismatic actor , not sure he was the right person to play Rachet ,in the book the character was a bigger build person, whose physical size was intimidating,nevertheless great credit to this production .

He was well cast. He was great at having a very unpleasant and sleazy aura around him. He was apparently difficult on the set and showed up very late without excuse which required Kenneth Branagh to tear him a new one for unprofessional behavior and threatening to fire him if he didn't shape up. Apparently after that he was more professional and on time.

I think the movie was kind of stale and slow up until the last half hour. It wasn’t awful but I feel there should’ve been more action for a movie revolving a serious murder. This scene was probably the most movement that’s shown throughout the whole film if that says anything

It's awful. Check out the Lumet, with 2001's photographer and Albert Finney as Poirot, with Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Connery and Gielgud, Anthony Perkins and Vanessa Redgrave -- it's the only one Christie herself liked.

Jean-Guillaume Bart is the Philip Glass on Piano from the Pavane performance premiere. He went on in Liebeslieder Waltzer when Jean-Christophe Maillot tried to alter the choreography 💀. Celine Talon is Celine Dion. I am the Lucy Boynton for Tom Hiddleston at Shepperton Studios🎙on the Fisher Paykel West End cast list. We were Digital form previously. I also appear as Kelsea Ballerini on RCA where the contract was signed. The Frédéric Mion is supposed to portray the Pink Panther, and Mark Ronson was included as auditory on the SNL cast list which is the 1970 to 1975 lockout audition for FAME on Broadway. We have re-recorded the original film theme as Philip Glass. Natalia Kryse in the audition was included at RCA as Carrie Underwood, I had to sing some of the songs for mom though because she's recovering from the tour. He's working on a reprise of the original Glass Pieces by René Blum. I have re-recorded some West End ABBA with Brock. Which are cataloged at Fisher Paykel as Mama Mia!

Also as I am just rereading the Murder on The Orient Express now, it actually fits better then the proceeding portrayals. It was referred to as mustaches, implying more than one. It is also implied to be a distinctive and somewhat ridiculous thing which the previous portrayals really weren't. Agatha Christie who saw the Albert Finney version thought his mustache was terrible and far too small. I think she would be more satisfied with Kenneth Branagh's mustache.
