Don't wanna sound like I'm purposefully trying to be a 'special snowflake', but... Muse are living geniuses. Matt Bellamy is such a beautiful composer, writer, musician in general... I love the theme to this song. I am a huge fan of Muse, Queen, and Orwell himself so logically this is one of my favourite songs (pieces?) by Muse. I've read Nineteen Eighty-Four as well as other novels by Orwell and I've fallen in love with the whole concept of the dystopian world. I'm 13 years old and sadly none of my peers have an appreciation for neither beautiful music like that of Matt Bellamy's nor the hard-hitting stories like those of George Orwell's. Forever a lonely snowflake :(

Honestly listened to countless versions of Chopin's Nocturne no 2 in my life but coming back to this song the way he plays the excerpt is the actual best in terms of pacing and little tricks
@johnrgonzalez89 жыл бұрын
John Millthorpe Muse's interpretation of Chopin's Nocturne is very authentic and original but perhaps what makes it so great here is by how it works with the song as a whole. After the heavy militaristic theme it arrives like an epiphany; a nostalgic reflection of the bliss of youth... and we question ourselves, how did mankind ever come to this?

The first part of the final instrumental has the feel of the world in happy times, with children playing and laughing. The second, feels like war beginning with the sound of fighter jets, radio commands and the laughter is all gone. This music is perfect to go as a covering soundtrack to a chaotic scene of carnage. You can imagine a battle scene being played out to the piano. In fact, it hauntingly reminder me of the final scenes of Schindler's List. Absolutely amazing. ❤️

That sample of the kids playing outside to innocent classical piano before getting strafed by the american "heroes" of global ZOG is the most evocative sample I've ever heard. Absolutely sickening. This is Muse's magnum opus.

So no one else noticed the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom reference at 1:33? They totally lifted "Parade of the Slave Children" - likely on purpose, as it comes right after the lyric "Must we do as we're told?" Brilliant. Also, I find it hilarious that the hugely obvious Queen riff at 1:16 coincides with the lyric "[Why split these states when] there can be only one!?" That's a veiled quote from Highlander, which included several songs by Queen. I love Muse so much...

I love this song. "These wars just go on and on". Sadly that is so true. I love the message Muse illustrated with this album. There needs to be an uprising here in the U.S no doubt about it. Enough with greed, enough with corruption, enough with these unjust wars. I am so glad the released this album. It can really open peoples minds up if you think about it.

The whole album is actually themed around George Orwell's 1984, in which the world was in a actual perpetual state of war, it wasn't referring to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
@R0NYFL0NY8 жыл бұрын
actually in 1984 the world is separated into 3 countries which over all is a bad thing and considering this album is themed around 1984 it's easy to say that this song is anti globalization.

Green Shaman I know the album is about 1984, I'm just saying the song can be interpreted more than one way. That's the beauty of music.

Jake Johnson Enough with greed, corruption, and unjust wars? You might as well say enough with hurricanes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. As much as nobody wants those things there is no combination of laws, no form of government, and no set of morals anybody could implement to solve these problems. Welcome to reality bro. Trust me, we all know it sucks.

Years after first hearing this song and first hearing the Chopin through it, I finally am taking piano lessons and learning the original nocturne. I was wondering why I kept wanting to play some of the rhythms and ornaments not as written, and coming back to this I see why-Matt made a few changes here and there to the melody. Nothing drastic, mind you, it’s still very much Chopin...but there’s a freedom, improvisational authenticity to Matt’s delivery. It’s almost as if he was playing a version of the piece that was passed on by ear rather than by sheet music, the way orally transmitted stories change slightly when told by different people. In the post-apocalyptic 1984 narrative that so heavily inspired this album, it’s like someone is playing the nocturne having heard it many times in years past, but the music has been burned by the government and now only exists in the player’s mind, with its little differences and creative freedom.
