Today I will make a music box. The mechanism of this music box is made of brass and precious wood.
The sound in this music box will be made by the blade of a knife.
Let's see what happens. Enjoy watching it!

Here you will see manufacturing process of some interesting stuff, made of metal, wood/etc. Toys, souvenirs, complex and simple mechanisms, unusual gifts for boys and girls - all that things you will see in my videos. Watching this and the complexities involved it just goes to show how expertly the engineering prowess of original music box makers were compared to todays engineers who use machines and computers to do all the work. The original music box makers did not have machines or computers, just hand tools, pencil, paper and rulers and yet they were able to produce some of the best music box's the world has ever seen. Not even today's machine produce computer assisted music box's come close to matching what the original box makers were able to produce.

You have some fantastic machines and tools. Would you consider a workshop tour video detailing how the machines work and what limits the things you can do with them?

you did an awesome job of making this and i loved your process, and I'm not sure if this effects your final result but a traditional music box rotates from under the keys through and up them, this and your pins are larger than typical, you might try either trimming them down more or in another model adding more gap between the barrel and the keys so the teeth barely catch, i love you content man keep it up

Props on the Mitutoyo! My dad had a full set of their micrometers in his precision die shop. I hope the caliper serves you well. But don't let em shame you, friend. If they're talking like that, they should get no say. Getting good results with bad tools just proves you're more capable than they're likely to be.

FYI when you make a worm gear, the normal threads that drive the big gear should have blunt peaks. That's because you don't want the peaks to scrape into the wheel, cutting them with time.

Great job. You can drill holes in all the notes so you can rearrange any song you want at any time. Perhaps with a small neodymium magnet in each hole, or by making the thread on each hole (nightmare job).
@MrScorpianwarrior
@MrScorpianwarrior 2 жыл бұрын
I think you could get a tube magnet of the correct size that slides between the drum and the axle instead of doing a tiny magnet in each hole. Then, you could drill every note all the way through and insert your pins as you see fit.

Easier to make multiple drums. Changing out all the pins for different tunes?? Not many people would have that much patience. Your idea is possible but not too practical.

You can buy a rounding tool for the ends of the pins you put in the drum on mk2. This rounding will smooth out sound pin strike. Hope this will help, cool video. When you first tried the box, the sound reminded me of beavus and buthead opening.

Any machinist and machinist enthusiast worth their weight in gold can work with any tool, whether rudimentary or advanced brands, to make precision pieces. because it isn't the machines or tools that make you, it's you that make the machine. Specially, W&M Levsha, since your videos prove that up to the point where shameful people shamed you, despite putting out awesome precise pieces with an inferior tool.

wow! Awesome! I wonder how they figured out where to place the pins in the drum, back before modern tech. it must have been a lot of trial and error the first time through with a new song, after that they could use the working drum as a template.

🙃 I like your work, it is beautiful and well made. You could might improve the sound by shorten some of the pins a bit, because they create a too rough tone with a click.
