Hello friends In this project i am going to show you how to make rhythm following flash led's which blinks following the rhythm of the music.

Oustanding! I've been wanting to do this with a vintage radio of mine that'll act as a "dancing" backlight to the tuning dial. I'd like to make a block of 8 or 9 LEDs to create a little more uniform lighting for it, but the tuning dial window is small so I wouldn't have to go too big.

Ok, so the schematic is incorrect for it to be used as a true VU meter. the microphone is triggering all of the LEDS at the same time due to the resistors all being the same rating. if you staggered the resistors in varying values then you would have the LEDS coming on in sequence.

The reply by Wasted Props is completely incorrect. There is only ONE level, as all 4 LEDs are driven by Q1. The resistors R4, R5, R6 and R7 are the current limiting resistors for each LED - these have absolutely nothing top do with switching each LED on (that's done by the Base of each transistor which are all connected together.

It's the light emitting intensity...each led colour has different intensity of light, so it looks like some led are glowing higher than other

@@johncoops6897 john, a few years on and a few years wiser. My comment is semi correct. All the LEDs are being tiggered at once, this statement is correct, as there is no cascading, the schematic shows the transistors are all essentially on the same "rail" triggering all at once, needs a small value resistor between the transistors to step the voltage and trigger each led in sequence of input voltage

Great project, bro! :D Two questions: reducing the resistor values (the 1k ones) can I use 5v instead of 9v? The second, can I connect a 3w amplifier audio output to it instead of the mic? Thanks a lot! :D

+MC's Creations yes you can use 5v instead of 9v. But you can't connect directly instead of mic.

Van david I made it properly. I 've changed 3 condenser mic, but still the led kept on glowing.
