This BABYMETAL reaction is genuinely my first time ever seeing this performance and I'm pretty sure it's also my first time ever hearing this song at all. Some really tight musicianship on display as expected. Quality stuff.

When I do my reaction videos I don't press pause because I don't want to interrupt the natural flow of the music as it was originally intended by the artist. I try to vocalise my thoughts in real time as I listen to the song, and then summarise my reaction afterwards.
Please do recommend songs or other artists for me to checkout in future by commenting on this video! I'm constantly on the lookout for great new music and things I've never heard before.

Many people forget that not only girls sing live, but also musicians play live, which is also not so easy. They have no room for mistakes. And many Babymetal songs are very difficult to perform. This is not the easiest music for musicians.

Their songs almost have some elements of comedy hidden in them, but this one is just a song about a dark world. But it is good. I love it.

The Budokan has been an iconic music venue since the Beatles performed there in '66. It "only" seats 14.5k people max, so not a big stadium tour sort of place, but famous enough that everyone wants to play there anyway. Because it's primarily a martial arts venue, the fixed seating is in the round, which is why the stage is set up the way it is. "Red Night" and "Black Night" were a pair of concerts they performed there (and later at the Tokyo Dome, an actual stadium).

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. The Budokan is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics but now also the most prestigious venue for concerts it is the place Japanese artists aspire to play and few of them actually get there. This was March 2014, Su was just turned 16, Yui and Moa 14 and they are the youngest average age female band to ever headline - and they sold it out two nights running ... no small feat when you also consider these shows marked the launch of their first album. These were the shows where the Kami Band became their full time support for all live shows. When BABYMETAL started in 2010 they sang and danced to pre-recorded instrumentals on a backing track. When they started doing their own small shows they had guys dressed in skeleton suits (called Babybones) on stage miming the instruments. The Kami Band was phased in gradually from October 2012 playing at a couple of festivals and playing the encores in a few shows. Kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in all live shows ... which also explains the traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint. At the end or 2017 the white robes were replaced with black and since the start of 2019 the corpse face paint has been replaced with masks. The Kami Band are some of the absolute best session musicians to be found in Japan. They all have their own bands and projects, so there have been a lot of Kami Band members, but the same hard core of about 6 have been with them almost from the start and are the ones you will see in most videos. In this video we had Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums) For the 2019 US tour and 2020 UK and Europe tour the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) supported BABYMETAL, probably because the tours were their longest yet and there will have been logistic issues with clashes of dates, visas and so on making it difficult for all the Kami Band of the East members to be there for every show. Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) is an exceptional vocalist. The whole concept of BABYMETAL was formed and developed around her vocal talents and extraordinary stage presence - even though she was still only 12 when they formed in 2010. Despite appearances this was never a "cheesy pop-metal" marketing campaign. It is a passion project of their producer Kei Kobayashi, a life long metalhead, who was inspired by the vocal talents of Su-metal when he saw her performing with her previous J-Pop group and saw her potential to front a metal-JPop fusion band and to do something new which might help breath some life back into the (not too healthy at the time) rock and metal scene in Japan and that might attract a new audience among the younger J-Pop fans. The agency he worked for thought he was mad and that BABYMETAL would be a short-lived and failed experiment, but they allowed him to try it under the umbrella of it being a sub-unit of a bigger J-Pop Idol group as there was no financial risk to them if it did fail - they provided no extra budget for this sub-unit. It surprised everybody when they actually started to find an audience and to become popular and it was only then that the agency provided some extra budget to pay for stage costumes and a live backing band in advance of BABYMETAL separating from the parent group to become an independent band in their own right - that finally happened in 2013. 'Rondo of Nightmare' is possibly the darkest of their songs lyrically, Su is caught in a recurring nightmare running through the dark from something she can't see. In the part you remarked on with her looking like she was almost suspended in mid air (yes that will have been deliberate - everything at their concerts is carefully planned and crafted) she is hiding in or by a fountain, but whatever has been chasing her is still coming closer and accepting there is no escape she asks that if she is to die won't it at least show itself to her. There is a lot more for you to discover - they have about 50 songs and you will struggle to find two alike. They cover virtually every metal genre but they will also mix in many other musical styles and genres (not just pop), usually when you least expect it. Find the "Babymetal Reactor Resource" channel, click on the video titled 'Future Plans' and read the description to find a link to a spreadsheet with links to great live performances of all their songs and how to use them (they have been rendered safe for reactions). Pick any song that takes your fancy and go on from there - they have no fillers.

⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥 Su-metal solo songs are rare at festival appearances, although they did perform 'Kagerou' throughout the 2018 tour. At that point it was untitled, but known to fans as 'Tattoo', since it was listed on the setlist onstage with that temporary name. That was a sixteen year old Su performing 'Rondo of Nightmare'. She premiered the song the night before, at Budokan Red Night. Rondo is easily in my top ten BABYMETAL songs. Su performed three solos that night. She did 'No Rain, No Rainbow', followed by 'Akatsuki' earlier in the set. Yui and Moa (as Black BABYMETAL) did two songs without Su that night ('4 no Uta' and 'Onedari Daisakusen'), and they performed a bunch of songs together. That Black Night Budokan concert from March 2014 is still one of my favorite BABYMETAL concerts. Of course the Kami Band are world class. The Fox God only summons the best. : )

You were wondering about the time signature in Rondo of Nightmare. Obviously the intro (called Mischief of the Metal Gods) is all 4/4, but when the actual song Rondo of Nightmare starts, it could be written as alternating between 7/4 and 4/4 (or even could be 15/16), which also goes into the verse. When you get to the prechorus and chorus, those drop into a simple 6/8, putting you into a waltz. That pattern repeats throughout the song. As far as their shows, this was at Budokan, which is an actual sumo wrestling ring. But the thing about being able to play at Budokan is that you have to be invited to play there. You just can not schedule a show there and show up; they have to invite you. as far as company for this, the first band ever invited to perform at Budokan was the Beatles. Cheap Trick performed at Budokan (that's where the single for I Want You to Want Me was recorded).. and at the time, Babymetal was the youngest group to perform there, where they performed for two nights. They've done bigger shows where they are the main act, such as Tokyo Dome. When you get to reacting to Tales of the Destinies, you'll hear more about that.

And I'm sure other knowledgeable guys like Grington300 300, Rick Wagner, Martinmetal, autohomae etc. will show up here and add some information. I am going to give some trivia regarding relation between Kami Band in BM's back and your favorite Band-Maid. ◆ B-M and Kami Band are good friends ◆ Kanami of B-M attended the funeral for Mikio (Kami's one of guitarists) and left her message of condolence that was full of respect to the deceased virtuoso (RIP). ◆ BOH (Kami's bassist) is a follower of Misa's Twitter. 😄

In my opinion the best performance of “Rondo of Nightmare” despite the fact that it was only the second time this song was performed live. Unbelievable confidence from our queen Su dancing fearlessly 2 m above the ground on a tiny platform and singing her heart out to escape the recurring nightmare. Btw Boh (the bassist) is playing a 6 string bass. If you want to see an even faster drummer check out “Kageru” with the western Kami band intro. Anthony Barone on the drums can pull of some pretty insane speed blasts :)

I'd have to disagree personally - even though it lacks the Mischiefs of the Metal Gods intro from the Kamis, I prefer Rondo from Black Fox Festival. It's the last time it was performed, and Su's vocals are simply incredible. Also, Steve you should know that if you just search that suggested song (it's actually spelled 'Kagerou' btw) on youtube, the videos you'll find will be what we call "compilations" where someone has taken clips from multiple different live performances and cut them together with audio from a single performance to get around copyright blocks. I think it's vastly preferable to watch the original uncut pro-shots, since A) those compilations can be confusing for first-time watching, and B) they're often of dubious quality. If you want to react to Kagerou, I personally would suggest checking out the Babymetal Reactor Resource channel - the video 'Future Plans' there has a link in the description to a spreadsheet with links to watch lots of great BM performances that get blocked on youtube (including Kagerou), plus links to the same videos with translucent logos pre-applied so you can edit them in more easily if that suits you better.

I'm Japanese . Thank for your nice reaction . There is no singer who has both beauty and good singing like Su-Metal (the lead singer of Babymetal) 'in Japan' , I think . She is 24years old now . She belongs to the biggest entertainment company in Japan and is a famous singer and talent from when a child . When you have a hard time , you should listen 'no rain no rainbow' by BABYMETAL . Good reaction! Not surprising that you don't know the song; they don't often play Su solos like this one or the 'Black Babymetal' songs with only Yui and Moa outside of their big shows, and almost never at festivals. Can I ask what year you got to see them at Download? Kinda jealous, not gonna lie 😄 The reason it was difficult to figure out the time signature is because it changes - during the main djenty riff it moves back and forth between 7/4 and two measures of 4/4, while the rest is in 6/8 or 3/4 or however you want to count it. Really hope you'll check out more of their stuff - I know you're familiar with the surface level, but they go _really_ deep. If you want an easy starter, check out Headbanger live at Legend 1997. If you don't mind putting in a little extra work to get around copyright blocks, you can watch some of their more recent stuff and then blur it or put a translucent logo over it in post for the upload. Let me know if you want to do that and I'll hook you up with some links.

Good reaction, thanks! You are totally right about the Kami band members having to be top notch musicians. They are actually the best session musicians you can find in Japan. In fact, BOH (real name Saisuke Bohte), the bassist, told in an interview that backing BABYMETAL was his most challenging job ever. Also added that they have to give it all on stage just to not seem lazy and match the girls high standards. Also the girls have an expression that translates by "burn with perfect combustion" that means to perform at the highest intensity during all the concert and ending the show having given it all. It's impressive that they are huge professionals even being so young. Until next time!

As another KZfaqr pointed out awhile back, the whole thing with BABYMETAL is incredibly similar to when Weird Al came out in the 80's. He could absolutely come out with these parody's and people would be amused by them, but if he didn't have a good band behind him that made the music sound legit, no one would take him seriously and he would have died off quickly. Look at where he is now, 40+ years and musicians consider themselves to have "made it" when he does a parody of one of their songs. It's very similar with BABYMETAL. They were/are mashing up so many aspects of various music styles, but obviously metal and J-Pop, that if they didn't have an incredible band behind them, they wouldn't have made it anywhere close to where they have today. I wish like hell they'd get more airtime on U.S. radio because they deserve it. I heard one of their songs ONCE on satellite radio, which is how I actually ended up getting into them, so imagine if they were getting real airplay here!

Nice reaction. You picked a great Su solo to come back to Babymetal with. Love this tune from the first time I heard it. It keeps to the idea that Babymetal will take musical chances like few other bands ever dream of. Lyrically the darkest song Babymetal has. Check out these songs from their 3rd album soon as they're due for a new album drop sometime this year. Distortion, Kagerou with intro, the unofficially called the trilogy of lights, Starlight, Shine from legend M, and Arkadia. For some fun Elevator Girl and BMC live. That's a lot but the 3rd album is a double CD set. Enjoy the ride through the Babymetal galaxy of music.

This is one of 4 Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) solo songs. The other 3 are:- 1. "Amore" (Wembley Arena). 2. "No Rain No Rainbow" (Legend A Baptism XX). 3. "Akatsuki" (Same Venue). Rondo Of Nightmare/With Mischief Of God Intro:- Babymetal:- Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" (Vocal and Dance) and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" (Scream and Dance). The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances. KamiBand:- "The KamiBand are the instrumentalists (or backing band) in BABYMETAL - Each member is a "god (Kami) of music" summoned by The Fox God stage by stage. All the Kamis have their own jobs and side-projects in addition to BABYMETAL". Current Members Who Perform At Nippon Budokan:- •Takayoshi Ohmura (Guitar, ESP SNAPPER-7/R Gold & Twinkle Pink). •Leda Cygnus (Guitar, ESP BLUE CUSTOM). •Daisuke 'BOH' Bohte (Bass, ATELIER Z BETA 6, Boh'S CUSTOM 6). •Aoyama Hideki (Drums, YAMAHA Signature Drum Kit). BABYMETAL is the youngest act to perform at the Budokan and artists need to be invited to perform there. Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse (stylized as LIVE AT BUDOKAN ~RED NIGHT & BLACK NIGHT APOCALYPSE~) is the third live video release by the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. It contains two concerts performed at Nippon Budokan shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album, and was released on January 7, 2015 in a standard edition and a limited-edition box set exclusively for "The One" fanclub members. Nippon Budokan:- Nippon Budokan (日本武道館, Nippon Budōkan), often shortened to simply Budokan, is an indoor arena located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. Originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics, its name translates as Martial Arts Hall in English. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most iconic musical performance venues. A number of famous rock music acts have played at Budokan. The Beatles were the first rock group to play there in a series of concerts held between June 30 and July 2, 1966. ABBA ended their last tour there. Their final show on March 27, 1980, was the last live concert ABBA performed together. Numerous acts have recorded live albums at Budokan, including Bryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Cheap Trick, Dream Theater, Duran Duran, Kiss, Mr. Big, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Journey and Deep Purple. Great reaction. Juxtaposition is always a good word to describe Babymetal 🙂 Babymetal might have a strange origin, but their structural is not that different from Nightwish. Both bands have a single person with vision and who sets out the path. And the singer(s) are not directly involved in the initial song writing process. Songs do get changed before the final recording, etc. based on their singing style or other input and new ideas created from working towards a final version of those songs. The musicians aren't that much different. So I would say why do people think Babymetal is that different ?

Excellent. One of my top 3 BABYMETAL tracks! I believe "Rondo" may have a double meaning here; as Su-metal's recurring nightmare, and for it's musical style, "...rondo, in music, is an instrumental form characterized by the initial statement and subsequent restatement of a particular melody or section, the various statements of which are separated by contrasting material", as per Encyclopedia Britannica. Other notabe users of the rondo style include, Beethoven, Mozart, Hadyn, etc. Not bad company! Arigatou! 🦊🤘 #notacult

Still not a huge fan of most of what I have heard of BabyMetal (i am just not a huge fan of more poppy chorusses in general), but I have always really enjoyed this particular performance and track and I will usually watch reactions to it if I see it in my subbox. The only other one that I sometimes watch is the Death Legend 1997 one, which isn't necessarily the best musicwise but is great as a performance. I have nothing but respect for everyone involved though as I can not imagine how much work it must take create huge shows like they do. That goes for everyone, from the people settings up the stage and logistics to of course all musicians involved as well as the girls for their singing and their dance routines. I can not imagine how much time it must take to get all that stuff perfectly rehearsed for their concerts.

Good comment. We can't all like the same things and BABYMETAL (nor any other band) can't appeal to everybody. Given what you said about 'BABYMETAL Death' at Legend 1997 I think you may appreciate the opening performance at the legend S shows, the song is 'In The Name Of' - and a song that has more vocals but doesn't have the poppy choruses perhaps 'Tales of the Destinies' live at Tokyo Dome - that one is full on prog metal.

I don't think most of their stuffs are "poppy", there are some very very poppy and child like tho, but overall they bring the "happy" vibe to metal, some also deeper and more emotional and beautiful, I guess it's you prefer more traditional metal stuffs with dark and powerful vibe
@MaartenT
@MaartenT 2 жыл бұрын
@@BadEnd98 I have said the same thing about Japanese bands that I do enjoy a lot and some that I enjoy a bit, most of the ones I have heard have a tendency to have chorusses that I consider on the more poppy or pop-punk side actually. Maybe "poppy" isn't the correct term for it, it's the (vocal) melodies that don't always do it for me. I have said before that some of the melodies of some of those Japanese bands remind me of Disney/Cartoon songs. I mean all of this in the best way possible. But I I have heard the chorus of Pa Pa Ya in the past, which is why the word "poppy" came to my mind. But yes, I do usually prefer less "happy" songs in general as far as metal or rock goes. The fact that most of the guitar based music I have been listening to for the last 20 years has been metal and 10 - 15 years of that has mostly been on the heavier side of metal (mainly black metal and some death metal). That probably doesn't help. But, It's not because something isn't really for me that I can't see why people love BabyMetal. Music is art and all art just isn't for everybody. Listening to a couple of the Japanese bands that I found last year and trying to get more used to the power metal side of Japanese metal did make me more used to the types of chorusses that I didn't like before, so who knows. I might be enjoying more BabyMetal in the future.

I found live versions of both, but I don't remember if it was the Tokyo Dome one I did for Tales Of Destinies, it was an old version because it was with all 3 of them (I actually forgot to check for that specific version). The opening performance was impressive, that must have taken a lot of preparation and money. The "chorus" in Tales Of Destinies was still somewhat on the melodic side for me, but it was ok. The instruments were impressive as always. I do own a couple of CD's of the Kari band actually and while I am not a huge Jazz fan, they are fantastic musicians.

@@MaartenT They have only played Tales of the Destinies live that one time at the Tokyo Dome in 2016, so if you found a live version that was it. Legend S was Su's 20th birthday celebration in her home town Hiroshima so yes I think nothing was too much trouble and no expense was spared.

very sorry. If I wrote it as I thought of it, it would be a long sentence. ----------------------------------------- I remember when BABY-METAL debuted. My impression at that time was "It's childish. It's impossible to use metal as a sign. I think it will disappear in a year or two." But my prediction was overturned. BABY-METAL is now recognized around the world. Currently, I think there are two major reasons for their success. 1: First reason The main vocal Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) has grown more than expected. She was amazed at the growth of her singing ability. Especially, I think her high-pitched vocalization is wonderful. In the future, if strength and depth are added to the bass range, I feel that it may be included in the "Top 3 female singers in the Japanese rock world that I think of myself". (By the way, the other two are ASAMI (LOVEBITES) and Yuko Suzuhana (WGAKKI-BAND)) 2: Second reason KAMI-BAND will be added to the backup. KAMI-BAND has been backing up BABY-METAL since 2012. With their appearance, the quality of BABY-METAL has improved at once. It is well known that KAMI-BAND is not a permanent band. KAMI-BAND is formed each time BABY-METAL is active. Therefore, the band members are also in flux. My favorite is "BOH", one of the bassists. Other bassists may join KAMI-BAND. If you look at the skinhead bassist who controls a 6-string bass guitar, that's BOH. There are many guitarists in Japanese rock bands who show their bass guitar tapping skills. Among them, I think BOH's skill is the best. Some people don't want to admit that BABY-METAL is a metal band. I think the background is the value that "a girl singing in a cute style cannot be called metal". Surprisingly, some even say, "Products produced by music companies are not rock / metal qualifications." Fortunately, Japanese society has a custom of respecting cultural diversity. Gender, age, costumes, musical instruments, performances, etc. If you express your music as you like, you can call it rock music and you will not be criticized by others. In recent years, I feel that unique bands are being created one after another in Japan by avoiding stereotypes in the world of music. And it would be great if there were more opportunities for it to be recognized around the world. I hope that free music will spread to the world ... ----------------------------------------- from Japan * This is a sentence using Google Translate. I hope the intention is conveyed correctly.

This is one of my favorite songs from them. I would recommend checking out the band Asterism. They are a 3 piece instrumental band from Japan and the guitar and bass are on par with the members of the Kami band. This is from a live performance (fan cam, not the best audio but was done from up front) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNuBg9l6s7DHcWQ.html. Hal-Ca (guitar) was 16 at the time, Miyu (bass) was 17 and Mio (drums) was 19. They have released several CD's with another coming out in the fall.

Everything is by click track. Anyone gets off it is pretty easy to tell. Ok, so Band Maid are going to be on tour in the USA. Great stuff and check out Perfume as the older sisters to BabyMetal and One OK Rock for the rest.
