I've been playing guitar for 14 years and have always struggled a LOT with even simple concepts like this. This is the first video I've seen that actually made it easy to understand. It helps that I'm a huge Hendrix fan and am very familiar with Little Wing, so learning triads in this context is actually fun, and equally importantly, makes sense. Great video, and thanks for sharing this. Huge help. You're a very good teacher.

There is a great John Petrucci video too where talks about combining major/minor triad shapes with their relative minor/major. When you combine an E minor triad with an G major triad (relative major) you get an Em7.

Yes! We need more chordal improvisers. I'm so jaded by pentatonic noodlers and scale shredders! Excellent lesson, something I've been implementing in my playing for years. One of the best steps towards becoming equally conscious and free over what ever music you are playing!

Funny thing is I learnt triad thanks to Hendrix's music, more thant twenty years ago. Then I applied them to all sorts of songs, replaciing the original chords by their triads in different positions on the neck, it helped me a lot to memorize them. Good video, man.

I'd also like to point out The Zephyr Song by RHCP - the main riff is based on triads and also incorporates licks around them. Improvisation is not a skill I train a lot, but having these triads as a base makes me feel much more comfortable.

Appreciate your phases practice session . And i honestly say to you that you are a very fine musician ..... However I think, i may be wrong , there is a big difference between your generation and mine which was late baby boomers on backwards . As kids, teens and into our twenties , because we had no smartphones, no mp3 players , no personal stereos, and had only a small portion of the day to listen to records , that music we could play back in our own minds because we had to remember it for the reasons previously mentioned . Not talking about auditory hallucinations , but really remembering a song, all the instrumentation and layers of rhythm, harmony, and melody . When Hendrix started out he practiced alone and had no backing tracks or drummer or bassist on hand . And even when he hit it big time , he could play his guitar alone and in his head simultaneously hearing the beats, rhythms and melodies in his head . And from there you go to the ultimate which is composing and making your own rhythms, beats, harmonies, words, melodies , accompanying instruments, arranging, etc . There are musical composers who don't even need an instrument while composing, but write down in formal or thier own unique musical notation system on blank paper from the music they are creating in their minds . They can be anywhere and here some rhythm , harmony or melody in their heads and jot it down . I haven't come close with the writing part but can create music in my head .
