Kobato is Po or Pigeon. They tricked Saiki into joining the band a couple days before a concert and withheld the information about wearing the maid uniforms. Despite being deceived into joining Band-Maid by a pigeon, Sai-chan has no regrets. This band is all friends.

Their first music video, and unfortunately it doesn't even hint at their song-writing chops (at this point they were not allowed to use their own songs) or musical prowess. Fast forward to 'Alone' for the first of their own songs that they were allowed to record, and a better indication of just how freaking talented the Holy Trio of Kanami, Akane and Misa (lead guitar, drums and bass respectively) are. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l952aJmamdnUmaM.html

Welcome to the Band Maid addicts club! The addiction sets in quickly. This (Thrill) is the first video of theirs I saw and I had a similar reaction. Could not believe my eyes or ears. I was hooked. I'm 57 and have not been this excited about a band in at least 20 years. And these Girls are not just one trick ponies, They have a whole growing catalog of fantastic music and videos. I love them so much I flew from the East coast to go see them in LA last October and I couldn't have been more overjoyed. I was bit worried about whether they would be as good live as their videos were. Sadly, this happens fairly often for musical acts. What was I worried about? They were amazing. And the pre show meet and greet was super cool, too. They were so friendly and down to earth in the autograph session and they could not stop smiling and laughing the whole time. It was clear they understood how much they were appreciated and adored despite the language barrier. Welcome to the club, Dave. It was awesome to see your reaction. Once this pandemic is over, hopefully they will return for more tours. If they do, get your ass to the show! You'll thank yourself.

No other band breaks new gate as well as Band-Maid. Forget they're all female. Forget they're dressed as maids. Know that two members (Misa - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard. Almost unbelievably, given her skills, sheonly switched to guitar about 10 years ago! They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in yer face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals with not an autotune in sight. And like those bands, they are all really close and know how to have fun together on stage. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal.

As others have said, they've come a long, long way since this song. Do yourself a favor and don't stop here. Their music is more complex now, and they are actually even better and more fun live (which no doubt 100 people have told you already too). Go for live stuff off of their YT channel, with possible exceptions for Rinne, Blooming and Dice. Really stellar are Domination and Freedom from their April 2020 show and Onset live from 2018 - all on their channel. So much joy in their music and so much talent. Since you play keyboards and love Japan (so do I), did you ever see Hiromi play?

Although this song was created by an outside creator, the band maid today is a band that is unprecedented in the world, where the band's production and songwriting, composition, arrangement and performance are all done by themselves. (Even at that Beatles, the producer was a non-member.)

You just became my favorite reactor. So many people say "Okay, so they're sort of like Babymetal" and I want to strangle them for comparing an idol group who don't write their own music or play instruments, backed by metal recordings to these amazing women who play their own instruments (incredibly by the way) and write their own songs as if they scrap every song that's not sonically perfect. Some songs are more technical, others not so much. But that doesn't matter as long as the music blends in a way to where it seems like each one of them stands out at one point or another in each and every song, and the way the instruments play around each other (I'm including Saiki's vocals)... the songwriting is perfection.

One of the best, most informative, and fun reactions / reviews I've seen... and damn, I've seen a lot! I enjoyed your Jinjer covers. Stay with them and Band-Maid and you'll discover something pretty special. Anyway... Welcome aboard, David. You are embarking on (along with many others) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with new album, “Conqueror”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8qjaspkspOYnIU.html Their later songs drive even more - Rin’ne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series! And many are represented with 30 well produced music videos. kzfaq.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h8iphKZ705zWiZs.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lcVhp8toyNrLfaM.html, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/att5jKWcpt_Gc30.html, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9mHjdmdrK2og6c.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience. Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 28 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Slippy6582 different talents and totally different Genres so why even bring them up. Babymetal is insanely talented. Su us an amazing singer with immense stage presence. Yui and Moa, excellent in their routines and entertaining the crowd. The Kami Band is hands down some of the greatest musicians in the world. Could Band Maid do what Babymetal does? No and Babymetal cannot do what Band Maid does. Why do they keep coming up together. Oh and the instrument thing is kinda bs too, Saki is just singing so does she count. Miku haas made herself into a killer rhythm guitarist. As the start she was learning so in the Thrill era was only Mincho, Misa and A-Chan awesome. No of course not Band Maid is great and those statements about playing instruments to be a band or great are bullshit.
@Slippy6582

@@tackle47 I did not say they have NO talent, but you really wanna say Babymetal is equally talented? LOL So lets compare just this time: A big company (machinery) writing the songs in the background, a band is standing behind them, playing the instruments, they have a choreography and Yes... Su is a very good singer against a group that is writing their own songs, playing their instruments and so on. I don't wanna take anything away from Babymetal, but Band-Maid is more talented, thinking anything else is something that would make no sense in my book!
@michaelafrancis1361
@michaelafrancis1361 3 жыл бұрын
You know I really love Band-Maid but these days I can hardly bare to listen to them, not because of the group itself (which is insanely talented) but because of the toxic comments of a small percentage of their fans who seem unable to go a single video without making invidious comparisons between them and Babymetal. Why on earth does anybody think the two groups are comparable? It's not a competition for heaven's sake. Listen to what you like and don't feel the need to trash other people's tastes. The two commonest winges are that a) Babymetal don't play their own instruments and b) they don't write their own songs. These are completely pointless arguments. The girls of Babymetal are singers... their voices are their own instruments. Is Saiki any less a musician because she doesn't play a bloody guitar? Was Pavarotti rubbish because he didn't play the instruments in the orchestra? Babymetal is just the generic title for a whole group of extremely talented musicians and performing artists including the Kami band. As to not writing their own songs well that would mean that Elvis Presley was a waste of time too because all his songs were written by professional songwriters and of course Yehudi Menuhin must have been a crap violinist because he didn't write Beethoven's violin concerto. So for heaven's sake leave Babymetal alone. I happen to love Lovebites, another all female Japanese metal band, but I don't feel the need to continuously tell people that they're better or somehow more authentic than Band-Maid. This sort of tribalistic, us against them, sort of defensiveness has ruined Band-Maid for me which is a real shame because I really like the band.

I discovered these amazing Girls about 3 years ago or so and I can honestly say that despite the fact that I watch their videos and listed to their music on a more than regular basis, I have not even begun to get tired of them. I wanted to go see them in 2018 when they came to LA and SF, but both shows sold out so quickly I couldn't get tickets. But I got tickets for last year's LA show (the second of two in LA) and I was not disappointed. These Girls are the real deal, live and recorded. Treat yourselves, feed the addiction! Band Maid!

I've been listening to BAND-MAID for a few years now and love their later material but 'Thrill' is 'Still' one of my favorite songs with them. There's a bit of 70's hard rock in this, I like 70's hard rock a lot.

Welcome, new Maidiac. BTW, the keyboard gig is already covered by their lead guitarist, Kanami...who also has a degree in economics. Now, on to their live versions (2020) of Domination, Onset, and PLAY.

“Thrill” being their 1st video, I’ve seen a hundred of these reaction posts and yours is one of the best. The “Thriller” reference completely caught me off guard, but you’re right and now I can’t unhear it. The almost subliminal “Thriller” melody is maybe why I found this song so catchy. Listen and review more Band Maid, as they are and endless source of great material, Band Maid have improved exponentially and their live performances are better than the original studio versions. FYI, The recent YT videos of their Feb 2020 performance are amazing.

Thank you, for finally getting to *BAND-MAID* ... Great Reaction!!! You ain't seen nothin', yet!! Strap in, and check out some current *LIVE* videos. They have uploaded several brilliant *LIVE* tracks from Feb. 14th 2020, on their channel: kzfaq.info Pick any of them: • *DOMINATION* • *FREEDOM* • *Choose Me* [cc] English Subs • *Wonderland* • *PLAY* or... Their most recent MV for *The Dragon Cries* is also awesome, and in English. (Super 70's Blues/Rock with a Hard Jazz breakdown.)

Yours is the second to really make me enjoy the reaction. I'll sub you, but you gotta do more BAND-MAID and other all-female Japanese metal bands. Kudos and thank You.

MISA!!!!!!!!!!!! MISA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MISA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the bad ass Bass Assassin. Looks like I'm very late to the react party. This is a good Time Machine song and these 5 musicians have improved so much since this video and their Live videos are 10 times better. Some of the good Live videos like Don't you Tell Me and Puzzle (electric& acoustic versions) and Moratorium are not available anymore but you can still react to Play, Onset, Domination, Freedom, Real Existence or Choose Me Live videos. I have seen Baby Metal & Band-Maid here in LA and comparing the 2 is like apples and strawberries.........

Since everyone else has covered Band-Maid, I'll respond to your question about the word "rad". There is a Japanese rock band Radwimps. They did the soundtrack for the anime film Your Name. Check out their KZfaq channel, radwimpsstaff. And as for all-women bands, Japan is the place to be. Band-Maid, Lovebites, Aldious, Gacharic Spin, Scandal, Silent Siren, Mutant Monster, Mary's Blood, Bridear, Trident, Fate Gear, and MANY more. And I'll make a connection to Fukuoka, it is the home town of the instrumental metal trio, Asterism. with two brothers on drums and bass, MIO and MIYU, and a woman guitarist, HAL-CA. All very young and very good. And Japan, as you know, has a great jazz scene. I suggest the Japanese female jazz pianist Hitomi Nishiyama and her covers of metal songs. Here is her cover of Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark", kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibBnerqDzsXOcn0.html

@@MusicShed Looking forward to watching it! Given your time in Japan, I'm sure that you are aware that there are a lot of very talented Japanese musicians that receive very little acclaim in the west. Also, the Japanese sound engineers are magicians at producing a dynamic and layered soundstage.

BAND-MAID have wide influences from Punk, Funk, Power Pop, Jazz and Metal. They do it all., even slow soft acoustic ballads. You have sort of missed the boat. Many of their best stuff was pulled ahead of a DVD release. So, react to what's left while you can, before it's too late.
