Just a thought for the spare wheel holder mate, maybe drill a hole through the all thread so you can put an R clip/race clip, through the hold as added security against the nut vibrating undone.Great job Richard. Seeya Rob

Surely a little bit of insulation sheet would of been good on the internal walls for internal heat on remote trips my bushman really struggled before i did insulation for the canopy now it works great!

Love the canopy build! My personal opinion, I would’ve put the internal jerry can holder up against the front wall so and the fridge/draws behind that. As it sits you’ve got around 200kg of spare Tyre and Jerry’s right at the rear of the vehicle. I’d be interested to know your front and rear axle weights
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
It’s a tough one for sure! The Jerry’s are rarely full, so is it worth moving all the permanent weight backwards!?

@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, just start with basic parts before you tackle assemblies! I usually use simple shapes like cubes etc to model rough dimensions to see if it can all fit in before I do the detailed design.

Are you going to swap out the spare wheel carrier and jerry can holder hex head bolts for some mushroom head allen key bolts so you don't rub holes in the jerry cans and side walls of the tyres due to vibrations on and off road? the projector screen is a cool idea

I think i would have tried to make the canopy shorter by a little if possible. This would have enabled the spare tyre and Jerries to sit on tray for weight support on rough roads and space for fire wood etc
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
Fair point, I just seem to have so much gear that it fills a whole canopy! But maybe if I had a shorter one then I wouldn't take as much!? Fire wood.... thats what people with open utes are for 😁

you could have fit the internal gerries behind the headboard
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
Hey Darryll, absolutely could have. Bit of a trade off because then the stuff which is permanently heavy (Drawers & Kitchen) are mounted further back, very rare to have 80 litres of water and also very rare to have the Jerrys full for a long time as they are constantly getting emptied!

Dude, this was killer. But how do you think the extra weight of the 60Lt and the spare on the rear wall will affect the vehicle being that it's so far back from the axle? Is it a potential future issue, or negligible at best?
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, I think it will be okay given its through the unistrut. Really won't be able to tell until we rack up 100K+ on it. The Jerrys are rarely full, on the track they would only be full for the first day or two so I'm not concerned about them. Tyre will be a good test though! And yep definitely can feel the weight that far back when you're driving!

Out of curiosity mate , how much in materials would the fridge cage set you back vs the actual bushman's one ? Interested too see the difference, and if so - would you sell one if someone was interested in purchasing?
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt Жыл бұрын
Hey Alex, realistically by the time you take into account the labor etc I don't think it would be much cheaper. Maybe $100. I would be interested in selling these designs however it needs a bit of work, ie the rubber mounts on the side of the fridge are fine when I'm installing it but probably couldn't offer it to the general consumer like that as it was a little fiddly.

@@DesignedandBuilt cool thanks, just beware the weight of at least 60kg hanging of the back will tear ally when driven on hrs of off road tracks, particularly the corrugated roads you might come across. Some of the inland tracks really do destroy even the best built rigs
