I remember being a total vocal goofball as a kid. I had so much fun with it. I did voices and accents and just silly stuff. But somewhere along the way I got scared of adults getting angry and other kids teasing me. Now the fear of sounding dumb stops me from being playful and exploring. Thanks for the encouragement, I need a lot! I love the image of Zhea sitting on a curb making voice noises. I want to be like that again!

Be more scared of being 10 years older than you are now and having made no progress because you let the fear prank you, you'd be surprised how easy it can be to waste a decade. As someone with a singing background, I find a lot of self-growth has come from practicing my vocal warm-ups and cool-downs every day, in locations where I'm more easily able to listen closely. They tell me what to expect from my voice for the day, and if I need to adjust to keep from harming my progress, just as recommended. At the beginning, I struggled against my want to sing along with Scarlett Johansson's Sing 2 song. A year later (today's my biHRTday!), I can reliably sing along with her if I'm being nice to my voice during the rest of the day. A year from now, I hope to be able to expand my singing repertoire with other films' songs. Slow and steady wins the race, ne?

I like watching some do/don't videos for some quick ideas, especially for the don't parts. This goes for anything really. But I've seen that often the "don't"s are actually just "do"s, because they're double negative. "don't ignore", or rather "do be aware of", and "don't avoid" or rather just "do". The "don't obsess over exercises" is a proper "don't" in my opinion. Still a nice video.
@TransVoiceLessons
@TransVoiceLessons 10 ай бұрын
I can understand your logic. However, think of it this way: all of the do’s are things beginners typically don’t do but need to do. All of the don’ts are things beginners typically are doing without knowing and need to *not do* - not do = don’t. Thus it’s “don’t ignore” because students *do* ignore without realizing and telling them the positive command doesn’t address the context of the negative behavior.

I took the time and had the courage to actually listen to this all the way through and one of the things that I noticed was that you said something about imitation in our environment. So I learn through my friends and family who are feminine how to communicate with my voice. Usually when I’m out and about I communicate well enough and gestures, body language and all of that helps too so that my voice isn’t a problem. The only time I have a hard time is when I’m calling someone on the phone who doesn’t know me and then it’s sad when I get a misgendered. So I wish I could do something about that and I understand that it could take time.
@aurieteixeira
@aurieteixeira 11 ай бұрын
Making more phone calls will help!! 😜 Seriously though, it sucks getting misgendered on the phone. What helps me is I heard someone recommend using phone calls as the most honest form of feedback. The person on the other end can’t see you and isn’t judging you for being trans or anything else, they’re only trying to identify if they’re taking to a man or a woman so they can address you how they’ve been taught to in society. They’re doing their best to gender you correctly, and the only thing you’re offering is your voice. Therefore, it’s the best feedback you can get, even if it still stings a little. I think of it like a game that I’m always trying to improve at. 😄

Thank you, this was very helpful and it gave me pause. I'm someone who just decided one day I wanted my voice to be more congruent with my appearance and I just sort of...did that. It seemed surprisingly natural, so I decided that with all the money I was shelling out for other aspects of my transition, I could at least save the cost of voice lessons. However...I notice that when I talk for an extended period, I have a frequent urge to clear my throat (which I avoid doing because someone told me it was bad for my voice), and my voice will eventually start to take on a scratchy quality and I will lose some upper range. Perhaps it's time for me to get some help.

You have helped me go from a masculine to feminine sounding voice. However I wanted an even higher pitch because it was a constant strain. So I opted for a Glottoplasty 7 days ago. I’ve been resting for a week. And today I could speak 15 words. My voice is barely there, there’s a deep raspy whispery sound. I pushed quite hard when I got over excited actually - to make sound. It really scared me and I won’t be so forceful anymore. But anyway - that analogy regarding mana and videogames. You’re absolutely right. Your voice I assume you got without VFS. It’s just so astonishing! Oh my goodness. And I do like your top in this video ❤️🧡 very pretty! Thank you for being you 🙏

Hi hi Zhea, first of all amazing video and amazing content in general, thank you for all the help. I wanted to ask you, I find it really hard if not impossible to find help for voice feminisation if I want a deep feminine voice. Some might call it "mommy voice" or stuff like that. It's a kind of voice I find very very attractive and I have a naturally very breathy voice but I find it very hard to know where to go when it comes to feminisation while keeping a deep, soothing feel to it. Do you have any tips or directions please ? I struggle a lot to know where I should place my vocal fullness, where I should place my resonance ? I would guess a light weight but low resonance ? I'm kinda of lost overall haha. I have been doing voice therapy and working on my voice for a while but a lot of the theory is really hard for me as I am autistic ^^'

In the house, there’s not much you can do. It’s really hard. I’d say “own it!” but even I can’t do that most days. And my whole family knows and would probably be chill with it. If you can go on a walk alone somewhere, that could work. As far as doing it at your job, just remember that you won’t see 99% of those people again. Your first few attempts might leave them saying “that person had a weird voice”, but ultimately they leave your life for good at that point so it really doesn’t matter. And after habitually doing it, even if it sounds “bad”, you’ll be so used to it that it won’t bother you.

Yep exactly this. Everyone keeps saying my voice sounded good and passing as a woman's voice but I just didn't hear it for the longest time. In recordings it just sounded like my guy voice pitched up. It's only recently that I've been able to hear my recordings as less like pitched up guys voice and more like slightly feminine androgynous voice, and when I speak it actually sounds really good to me. It feels like my change in self perception has been a mental thing, I've been feeling better and more confident especially in my gender identity. I don't think there's such a thing as "old enough" :) I feel like I'm late too but in reality I am young and not even an adult. I think a lot of people think this when it's just not true! I know you can do this no matter when you do
